I got a phone call today from the US Government Treasury Grant Dept offering me $8400 in free grant money. This offer was being made to me because I had good payment track record, hadn't filed bankruptcy in the past 6 months, etc... They wanted to send the money to me as long as I sent them $200 through Western Union. I asked if this was a scam and the man said that he 'wouldn't be wasting his time' if this was a scam. When I refused to send the money and told him that he should cancel my file, he proceeded to tell me that I was commiting a crime by not sending the money. I told the man that since the grant money hadn't been sent yet, there was no crime committed. He continued to argue with me. Very pushy and rude!
I'm glad that I was able to get online and find that this is a scam. I immediately called my credit card company and reported potential fraud on my account. I cancelled my credit card.
