Weebly, Inc. Reviews

I can not write a strong enough warning about Weebly. It is horrific.

We build websites and have for 20 years. A new employee wanted to build on Weebly to learn basic web skills and we gave the ok not knowing what Weebly is and figured it was like other hosting companies.

When we told the employee we'd just finish off the site after the employee struggled with it for a month, we realized the problem isn't the employee. It is Weebly. Weebly is so awful I can not describe it.

Weebly is essentially dysfunctional in more ways that I can tell. Here is some of it:

Weebly is incredibly slow. What would take you 15 minutes to do on ANY website building software will take you an entire day on Weebly. During that day Weebly will crash on you at least 50 times. We tried using different computers and even a different location to use different Internet access. It is Weebly.

They require you build on their service - so everything takes literally 20 times as long. Anything you do then freezes your work until it loaded onto Weebly's server. You just sit there looking at your screen. About 25% the time Weebly will crash and you can not simply reload or refresh it. You have to start from scratch at weebly.com and start again. OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER.

You insert a picture? You have to wait until Weebly reloads your whole website - and eventually there is a popup that you cannot connect.

Weebly crashes. It crashes every picture you insert. We calculated that it takes us over 5-10 minutes to just insert a picture. The same for text boxes. For example, for that person we said we'd take care of removing 16 bad jpgs and replace them with better quality as the exployee could not get Weebly to work. It took over 4 HOURS to remove and insert 16 pictures.

Weebly does not have text boxes. Anyone who builds websites means that 90% of your design options are eliminated.

You can not cut and paste text on Weebly without it losing all formatting and scattering the text down the page. For a commercial site this increases time demands over 1000%.

Weebly does not allow .htm / .html subpages to your website. Instead, they require that every page of your website other than the 1 single page they allow you will being with http://www.weebly EVEN IF YOU BUY a website from them for $300 a year - higher than most web servers.

Requiring then you use THEIR domain for all your website pages except the cover page - even if you buy their service - means you should not expect anyone to find your website on any search engines and if you advertising your website will be given the worst placement and ranking by Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines.

Basically, Weebly is pirating your traffic to themselves.

I suppose if a person wants a VERY simplistic free website for some personal use Weebly might have value as a FREE website site. But don't expect anyone to every find it unless you tell them how to find it directly.

We have wasted/spent approximately 60 employee hours on Weebly and now will have to start from scratch with a legitimate web hosting company as Weebly's stance is that THEY own YOUR website even if you paid for - so you can not simply put your website with another hosting company. This is for a website still not half done and that we could have built in a day and likely less.

You also can not cut and paste anything from other materials, websites, or even your own website without it losing all formation and scattering down the page.

Also, since their view is its there website, not yours, and therefore you can not save a transferrable or usable form of it, if you make a major mistake and erase anything critical (or the whole page), it is gone forever. You have no manner to back up your work yourself.

If I knew how to write a worse review I would do so.

We basically now have to 1.) struggle with Weebly to move OUR domain to another IPS - and then use functional ordinary software to build the website and its .htm pages.

2. Start from scratch unable to use anything we build on Weebly.
