I purchased a 22ft X 26ft long X 8ft tall carport from Handi-port AKA Wilson Munufacturing Inc. in November 2013 and paid extra for a reinforced truss system and ground anchors. When I ordered the carport over the phone I told the salesman the size of carport that I needed but also told them that I was concerned about wind and snow and was told that they have anchors and a reinforced truss system at additional cost . I purchased 4 anchors and the Power Bow truss system at additional cost. The salesman told me that all carports 25ft or wider required what they call a snow truss and is installed automatically. He said that mine being 22ft he would recommend having the power bow truss installed and assured me it would handle kentucky winters. On Monday 2-16-15 we had a snowfall of 10 to 11 inches and the carport collapsed with approx 8 inchs of snow on the roof damaging a Ford 4X4 pickup and a GMC Yukon Denali.
Upon inspection the trusses failed in 6 different places and the wall supports buckeled in 6 places.It fell in and fell over until resting on a building corner beside it. I called Handi-port and also creekside builders and notified them of the collapse. Creekside Builders is the person who made the inital order and took my deposit. Creekside called and said that they had talked to handi-port and they were only going to give me a discounted qoate for another carport for myself or insurance company to pay. Handi-port told me the same thing. Creekside told me that 3 of handi-ports carports had collapsed in my county and the number could be more. I have some friends that has carports wider than mine from a different manufacturer and all of theirs had no problems. One that did collapse was not as wide as mine. Handi-port does not want to stand behind their product and is wanting me or insurance to stand behind their product but will not man up and admit that they are selling poorly engineered product and its a rip off. If we cannot settle out of court we will settle it in court. I have attached photos DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.
