Yates Performance, Inc Reviews

  • Aug 21, 2014

Order from Yates Performance through Amazon. I ordered a Tail Light Sequential Kit for my 2010 Challenger I received the kit in phenomenally short time for Yates Performance a non-Prime seller. I thought great. The actual Item is mad by WebElectric.

It arrived on a Saturday, I began the install on Sunday. Keep in mind my Car is a daily driver and I need it to get back and forth to work. So I have the kit almost all installed. The last piece is the Tail Light Bar wire harness, a series of six light bulb sockets that each have bulb and fit into the keyed opening in the lens. I installed all the plugs and sockets until the very last one in the string.

The last on in the string would not fit into the lens. The bulb fit in fine but the key on the socket had three spokes and the hole in the lens had only two openings. So I compared it to the harness I removed in the install process. It was definitely different.

So Sunday night I messaged Yates Performance through Amazon and attached pictures of the plugs, the right one compared to the wrong one. In the email I request that YAtes Performance please overnight a correctly manufactured replacement part. I mentioned the car was my transportation and that I was a member of a car club and Vice-President and had heard good things about the harness) I did not expect an immediate response but hoped for a quick one as my transportation was inop.

The following day Monday I impatiently waited for an email. It didn't come before noon so I googled Yates Performance and found their web site. In the contact us all that was there was a web form email, entered my email address and asked them to look at my message on Amazon and explained my situation and apologized for my impatience. A gentlemen [assumed] email me back he identifying himself as Adam. and stated he was already working the issue and "didnt want to email me until he knew something". He said he was trying to confirm with the manufacturer that my claim was correct and that he would get back with me.

"Adam" got with me a short time later via email and and said Hr had confirmed the harness had the wrong socket connected and would not fit my Challenger. He would not say it was defective. to this day he will not call it defective. Merriam-Webster defines defective as “imperfect in form or function" In my opinion and in my business if it is defective. I digress. He went on to say that he would have a tracking number either that day, Monday, or first thing Tuesday. I thought, great!

Tuesday morning rolls around mind you he is in Virginia I am in Nebraska. He is an hour ahead of me. So I email him mid-day asking about the tracking number. He gets all defensive and states this is warranty issue with the manufacturer, WebElectric, and out of the kindness of his heart he was being the middle man and working this out. I said No, Yates Performance advertised this on Amazon not WebElectric. Yates performance did not perform any quality check, as it states on their website, and it was Yate Performance that was paid. Yate Performance had a responsibility to make it right. I t also states in their return policy that all returns with in 30 day will be afforded a refund or replacement, with a maximum of 15% restocking fee. yatesperformance.com/shippingreturns

Then things really went downhill. I said if I had to uninstall the kit to drive my car in the meantime, while this was resolved I would not reinstall the same one and return it for a refund. "Adam" then informed me that Yates Performance would only refund me 50% of the $154.95 I paid for it. I thought let see that happen. That’s against Amazon Policy and the Yates Performance return policy as well. He also accused me of trying to bully him with my car club connections and said something about my vinegar over honey approach. I am the customer not him. He sold me the defective Kit. It was interesting.

So on that Tuesday on my Amazon Prime account I filed for an RMA return from Yates Performance which they approved, I also filled and A-to-Z Claim with Amazon to get reimbursed the shipping costs. I could not uninstall the Kit until Wednesday night. So in the meantime Amazon reimburses me $10 for shipping, and requests the shipping number when I have it.

Understand I have installed all but the last component, the defective one, and the car has not been driven and been in my shop/garage the whole time not driven because to tail lights or turn signals. I package them in the original box, with the original documentation. I take them to the US Post Office and mail it back to Yates Performance. I provide the tracking number to Amazon.

On Friday I checked the mail when I arrived home from work. In the mailbox from WebElectric is a package with a replacement part for the kit I sent back the day prior. Not a whole Kit, just the piece that was DEFECTIVE. Oh My god, I thought tossed it in my shop trash bin and went inside.

So following Monday I hear nothing but I track the USPS package and it has arrived in Elkton VA, at Yates Performance P.O. Box. But not picked up. On the next day Tuesday It is picked up and I am notified that Yates Performance had refunded only $50.07 through Amazon. I contacted Amazon by phone immediately. I talked to a customer service person who was going to get in touch with the claims department and the claims department. The claims department told me they would contact Yates Performance, the seller. Yates Performance told Amazon an out an out lie that they had sent me a new Kit and used the WebElectric tracking number from the part they had sent and said that I had received it on the past Friday. TOTAL LIE.

So know I have to explain this all to Amazon. They are listening to Yates Performance up until know. As I was on the phone with Amazons Claims Department I found this sight and also found a Better Business Bureau Report for Yates Performance Alias company in Elkton VA, Blue Oval Performance. bbb.org/western-virginia/business-reviews/auto-parts-and-supplies-new/blue-oval-industries-inc-in-elkton-va-8002179/. They aren’t a member of the BBB but they are sure aware of them. The number listed her is disconnected.

So I am out over $100 dollars and a load of time fighting this. I am not done. This company uses the US Postal System to do this. It seems it is a “bait and switch” scam. Using USPS makes it federal Fraud charges if I am Lucky. I don’t think WebElectric Is complicate in the scam. At least I hope not. I have heard from other Challenger owners the product is good if you can get one that is not defective. Seems the plug issue is common at least as far as I have been told.
