As I was doing a search on Google Chrome for a vehicle, a full screen pop-up took over my ability to continue. The message states that my computer has been hacked and I must call this number 877-667-7972 to remove it. The people who answer sound like they're in India, but claim to be in Salt Lake City. There is probably a phone relay to India, but they can remove it for $369!!! I said "why would I pay you to remove a virus you caused to infect my computer"? They deny it, but I didn't fall for that. The next day I called Webroot, and they said to depress Ctrl/Alt/Delete at the same time. A new window appears, I selected Google Chrome and hit "end program". Voila! The pop-up was gone. I didn't pay YAY, or Staples who wanted $159 to fix it either! I immediatelt renewed my Webroot anti-virus subscription though. If this happens to you too, report it. It's a crime!
My daughter was doing her homework for her college classes when they did it to her. They confused and frustrated my daughter so I took over and they told me that her firewall and something else was wrong, which were both part of the windows system. I told them that she has only had her computer for maybe 2 months and there is no way her windows system should be malfunctioning already and why are they trying to charge her. They proceeded to try and convince me that it was needed and then went into trying to prove how trust worthy their company is. Told me that they have good ratings through the BBB, which is funny because when I look them up on the BBB they have no rating at all.
They got me the same way. They also got a friend of mine. They told me that they are under contract with Microsoft and Google to service computers. It cost me $249.00. My friend said it cost him the same amount. I argued with them for a long time.
Why can't Microsoft stop these clowns. If you think about it the Internet isn't worth the problems it causes. We never had these problems before this electronic age.
Nothing against their nationality but those people from India are the worst. They just keep calling wanting more.
