The business model for A1 Janitorial seems to be gaining popularity: this is the second vendor we've encountered that uses it (the other was LIghting X-Change out of Maryland who sent us unordered CFLs at $50/bulb). This is how it (and A1) works; they have an employee of theirs calling businesses to find out who is responsible for ordering XYZproduct, work up a phony P.O., send the product and invoice it immediately. The P.O. number is usually the name of the person extracted over the telephone. If they get paid, they then repeat the process over and over.
Our company unwittingly fell for this during a phase of high employee turnover. The product in this case was drain cleaner at $250 per 5 gal bucket. After receiving 10 gallons and paying for it, we soon recieved another 10 gallons. Having become a bit more familiar with this scandalous practice, we studied the invoice a bit more closely. The P.O. was the horribly misspelled name of a long-departed employee. We consider this most recent shipment of drain cleaner to be a gift from our dear friends at A1 Janitorial. Thank you, A1!
