Advanced Recovery Systems Inc. Reviews

This may not fall into ripoff or harrassment categories, but I'm trying to get ahead of the situation before it gets out of hand. That's why I researched this company and found this site.

I get a call from a friend that this company calls her asking for my information, and says they contacted my job. I checked my work voicemail, and sure enough, they did. I call them to see what it's in reference to. They say a furniture account I opened in 2011. I acknowledge having a delinquent furniture account, but don't recall it being opened in 2011, so I ask for the name of the original creditor. The lady, whose name is Mary, rambles on about who my employer was at that time, cites my social security number, and says it was on my credit report, so it must all be true, right? I tell her to name the original creditor, because I want to ensure this is the right account. She can't, and repeats all the other personal info. When I tell her that even people with bad debt have identify theft and fraud, she then goes on to overtalk me with threats of settling this by going through my NEW job for employment verification.

Now, I am recently separated and about to go through divorce. I lost my job in 2013 and for a year had no income, not even unemployment. The job I finally took pays $15,000 less than what I was making and I am the only source of income in my home. I am trying to get back on my feet, and have made arrangements with some creditors to settle my debt (the ones with decency and common sense to work with me without crazy talk or threats). To have someone call my job, and then threaten to go through my job, which I haven't had a year and don't want to lose because of this kind of mess, is enough to send me to the BK lawyers, even though I'm trying to avoid this and pay off my debts as best I can. I don't like being bullied, and if they could find my new employer, how come they couldn't find my address and mail correspondence first, like others have?

Is there a way to prevent these people from calling my job, or even calling my friends, especially when they can't even tell me who the original creditor is? I don't mind trying to work something out, I'm trying my best right now. But people like this, I want to fight back.
