I purchased a 60 month "Duralast Gold" battery that quit after 35 months. Took it to the local store where I purchased it and they replaced it giving me a credit for the remaining months - $62.99. The problem arose when the total price was nearly $90.00 ($87.74). When I reviewed the charges with the clerk I found that I was being charged a core charge of $18.00 + tax. When I argued about the core charge, pointing out that the old battery was sitting right there, the clerk stated that he had used that battery to give me credit for the remaining portion of the warranty, so he could not then use it for the core and that was the way it works.

What? I am completely unable to fathom the reasoning here. Bottom line is I was charged an addition $19.26 or over a 20% surcharge, 1/3 of remaining the warranty, for exchanging the defective battery. That is a total ripoff.

I went into the Autozone in Bridgeview, Illinois. I bought a car battery and they told me they will install it for me. The man took my battery out and put in the new battery. Now, all of a sudden my car idles like it is going to stall. He even noticed it and says I will be back I have to ask the manager about this. He comes outside and says the manager even asked if it was a Toyota because a woman was in there with the same problem and her car died after changing the battery. The manager says that they got the car started and it was fine after that. He than tells me the manager told him to have me drive around for 5 minutes and it will be fine. Well, I drove for 5 minutes and it still had the same problem of idling rough. I than even drove it home and back to the store because I live within a mile from there. Same problem still. I pull up to the store and the manager was outside smoking a cigarette in front of the door. He walks over to me and says pop the hood. He looks and says yeah after you take out the battery the computer resets itself and it has to relearn how to drive right after the reset. I was thinking why didn't you tell me this bull before this. He says yeah drive it around and it should straighten out. yeah, in other words you screwed it up and now I have to live with it. So, I drive it for two days and every time I go to stop at a stop sign or stop light it idles rough and sounds like it is going to die. So, I take it to Firestone and they tell me that when the battery was changed they should have put it on a power saver so it wouldn't have erased the computer memory and reset. Because now the car thinks it is resetting and having to run like the car is brand new. And the car is now older and carbon builds up over time. So, the reset and the carbon build up cause a difference in idling properly. So, they tell me you have to have all the carbon build up cleaned out and it will idle properly. Well, it cost me an additional 182.00 to have this done. If I would have just had Firestone do the battery change in the first place they would have hooked it up to a power saver and I would have never dealt with this reset issue. And Autozone knows about the reset issue but still did it anyway and caused me more problems. I feel ripped off and I am very mad I was given a bullcrap excuse. Next time I will just take it to a shop that does it right in the first place. The employees at this place sound like used car salesman. And they shouldn't be taking out batteries if they don't know what they are doing and causing people more problems because of the computers on the cars resetting. I want Autozone to reimburse me the 182.00 that I had to spend to fix what they screwed up. And i want my money back on this bullcrap oil stuff and pads they say you have to get in order for them to install the battery. NOthing but a ripoff. I am warning people to be very careful what kind of things Autozone does for them on thier cars. Because you might end up with a really big problem and Autozone has an oh well attitude.

I went to AutoZone to get the oil changed in my car, and it didn't take them long to do that and rotate the tires. I took my car to my mechanic a few days later because there was a loud clicking sound in the engine. It was the lifters. He went to check the oil and said, "there's no oil in here. that's your problem." I told him I just got it changed, and he said, "They must have forgotten to PUT OIL BACK IN IT!" How can you forget the oil during an oil change?

In october of 2013 the 6 tower coil on my 06 ram srt went out. I was in iowa at the time working. I live in ky. I checked several places and autozone was the only place that had it. My truck has 2 coils a 6 tower and a 4 tower. The 6 tower was bad but i bought both coils to replace. After installing them i started the engine and there was a loud knocking sound. Like a spark knock. Before i could shut the engine off there was a sound as if metal was breaking. I removed the coils and took them back and explained what happened. They said it was the correct part and showed me their computer where it had it listed as the correct part for my truck. After some lengthy research i found that the coil they sold me was not for my truck. It was for a chrysler v6 engine. This coil was wired to fire in a different sequence than mine which resulted in a bent pushrod in cylinder 3. This also resulted in the valve springs on that valve to break thereby dropping the valve into the cylinder and causing damage to the piston. My truck had to be hauled back to ky and ive been out the cost of a rental vehicle. Autozone initially refused to do anything so i filed a complaint with the better business bureau. After that they reopened the investigation in february. It is now april 25th 2014. They are now ignoring my emails. I have asked that my engine be rebuilt by the dealership and for reimbursement of the cost of a rental and the haul bill to have it shipped to my home. I want people to know how i am being treated and to encourage them to go elsewhere for their automotive needs.
