This Company continues to rip off $49.99 from my Father for Software Protection even though I've told them he has Alzheimer's and hasn't used a Computer for years! Don't do business w/these Crooks!

I thought Avast was one of the better companies, but my experience with them today feels like a total runaround scam. My computer was slow and I decided to try their anti-grime software to the tune of $20. After several hours, the program told me that there was something wrong ON THEIR END and the program would not run and they were "working on it." I called their customer support line and the "technician" connected to my computer and spent nearly an hour with me "diagnosing" all of my problems and upselling me to their full support service for another $180. Silly me, I purchased it and was told to sit in front of my computer for "just a few minutes" until someone reconnected. Over 30 minutes later, I called customer support, and waited in queue to talk to someone. Finally the technician came through on chat and told me that I would have to back up my computer and have all of my software keys available before he started. Of course, the salesperson never told me this. When I said, "no thanks" and asked for a refund, I was put on hold again for another 15 minutes before I could talk to billing. They said they could only refund the $180 and I had to submit a support ticket for the original $20. Also, no refund even on the $180 for 72 hours - when they finally get around to sending me an email with a link I have to click on. This is bait and switch in my mind - "we have this great grime software that will speed up your computer - oops it doesn't work - here buy this other service that we won't completely explain to you - oh, now you want a refund? Look for an email in 72 hours and make a separate support ticket request." I've spent several hours on this today, in addition to $200, and the result is nothing but frustration.

AVAST TOTAL SUPPORT IS A SCAM.

Had trouble with my paid Avast security software, so they immediatley shifted me to an account manager who sold me "total care" or something like that. said the problem would be fixed. NOT. Ruined my computer. No audio since then. Avast jams my computer every day. They "fixed" it 3 times, and nothing ever happens. Still no audio. No antivirus protection. Have talked to their customer support, and believe it or not, "total support" doesnt cover software issues. Uh, it's their software. DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON THIS COMPANY. THEY SUCK>

I have had Avast for almost a year and overall I thought it was a good product until a recent update that caused it to keep locking my out from using internet, which is necessary for me to operate my business. Originally I though perhaps it was a virus, which is what Avast was suppose to be protecting me from. Either way I gave them a call told them program was acting odd and blocking me from internet and they said they would take a look at it and see if they could fix issue with support and if not I would need to go to certified professional they have on-board to solve problem for a large fee of course.

The first issue I have is the support didn't even attempt to fix problem they just looked at a few things and then handed it off to certified professional. They used hitman pro to scan PC then reset it and said problem was fixed but they never installed Avast back onto my PC so I ended up having to call them to have them resend license key and then download and reinstall Avast. After install same issues appeared so I had to get rid of it and move onto another program in this case I now have Lavasoft and my internet is no longer being blocked.

I spent $179 and they say it is non-refundable and the problem was never fixed. The problem is with their software because new security software is not blocking my internet. Also they never mentioned that fee was non-refundable if they didn't fix problem. The fact they didn't reinstall my antivirus says a lot about poor service... I shouldn't have had to call them to do something they should already know to do.

I told them from the beginning antivirus was no longer on PC due to a scammer faking their phone number and saying it needed to be removed. They told me their service was needed because of scammer having me remove antivirus but turns out the real issue was their software blocking me. The Security system I have with lavasoft is rated better and allows me to get work done. Bottom line stay away from Avast they will extort $179 for poor service that anyone with a mouse button can do better. As stated earlier they just used a free version of hitman pro did a scan and assumed problem was fixed but it was not.

Personally I will never do business with Avast again nor recommend anyone to them. The internet blocking issue is not new in fact a quick search for Avast blocking internet will reval that this has happened in the past with others.

Had my tech guy in for a tune up, and he updated all the latest versions of stuff, including AVAST ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE. When I rebooted my UPS WORLDSHIP SOFTWARE, which had functioned flawlessly for 2 years, it came up with an error code & shut down-repeatedly. Called UPS WS tech support. Was told this was the 5 or 6 calls today for same probem. Asked about antivirus software. Turns out AVAST had taken my UPsink.exe file, and quarantined it in it's "virus cest". No idea how to get it out. Spent 1/2hour trying. UPS TECH gave me AVAST TECH Support phone number.

Got India on phone. AN HOUR on the phone with AVAST "SENIOR TECH". Downloaded program so they could "look at the problem" on my desktop. Kept telling me there was NO WAY to "release" the file from quaranteen...Bottom line??? "We can fix this, it's not a problem with our software, it's an issue with UPS SOFTWARE & Windows, but we charge for this, now let me tell you how we structure the charges to correct your problem..."

EXCUSE ME?? Your software blocks a file, and I have to PAY YOU to correct the issue? NOT. They REFUSED to correct it unless I paid them, and when I became irate at being BLACKMAILED, they hung up on me-2 hours wasted.

I called my tech guy, and we decided to try uninstalling AVAST ANTIVIRUS, and it worked! My UPSexe file was still there, and software booted up normally!

AVOID AVAST ANTIVIRUS at all costs, or you could be next!

Avast sent me a notice of auto-matic renewal of which I did not sigh up for. When asked if I wanted auto-matic renewal I click NO, One time purchase is what I was authorizing. When I received the email I replied asking them how to stop the auto-renewal that I will not honor it if they do and they never replied or gave any recognition of receiving my email.

I called their toll free number numerous time trying to contact someone before they did the auto renewal on the June 29, 2014, but instead on june 24th they withdrew money from my acct causing an overdraft resulting in a charge of $35 to me in addition to taking the money out without my permision.

Their Support tech cannot do anything, No account or billing stateside to help in this manner and no contact info to contact Redwood just the same toll free number. It is a vicious circle in trying to deal with these people and you get no where fast. I have tried to make a support ticket and it doesn't work or register my info and send me info to open a support ticket.

I purchased Avast's Internet security on March 31, 2014 and cancelled the order on the same day after it did not function. Avast advertises a 30 return policy.

Now, on June 2, 2014 after more than 40 emails, they still refuse to honor the refund. The part I want to caution any person interested in dealing with Avast is that I had filed a dispute through PayPal to resolve this issue. After I filed that dispute, Avast said that they would issue the refund, but only after I closed the PayPal dispute...

Be careful. Once you close a PayPal dispute, they will not re-open it. I cannot believe that Avast did not know this when they asked me to close the dispute.

PayPal has been as helpful as they could be. A PayPal agent actually called Avast/Digital River customer service and had them on the line at the same time as I was. The PayPal agent told the Avast representative that the dispute was closed. The Avast agent said he would reprocess the dispute. Today I got yet another letter saying that they will not issue the refund, and that they need a letter from PayPal stating the dispute is closed.

It is very clear that Avast never had any intention of issuing a refund. Please be very careful dealing with Avast and make a good decision for youself.
