October 1, 2014 a friend of mine went to see Dr Barrington to discuss the possibility of having a nerve conduction study done. She tried to make an informed decision regarding the Chiropractic treatment he gave her. She did this when she asked his staff about insurance coverage. She was informed that he participated in NEA Alaska Health Plan; and his office accepted their fee schedule. A modest co-pay would have been reasonable to her. She was surprised when she received a balance bill of 2,654.92 from his office. This charge was on top of what her insurance already paid 1345.08$. Turns out the entire procedure which only took about 20 minutes to perform, cost 4000.00$.
Had she been informed differently-that his office would balance bill her and that her out of pocket cost would be substantial-she would not have gone ahead with seeing him in October. Dr Barrington is a crook who did not stand by the message conveyed by his staff, and he misrepresented his financial terms and conditions to my friend, which violates the code of ethics of the American Chiropractic Association and is illegal under the Alaska Consumer Protection Act.
In late February of this year, my friend contacted a healthcare advocate, to try to help her resolve this issue with her bill. The Dr's office informed her advocate that he would negotiate down the balance bill by 72%, and if she did not pay this amount in full by April 3rd, he would be sending her to collections. The healthcare advocate also requested some medical records, they had a signed HIPAA release to get them, and anticipated receiving records but when they were requested Dr refused to give them. This was a clear violation of my friends HIPAA rights!
On April 3, 2014, my friend wrote Dr Barrington a letter and enclosed a money order for the remaining balance he said she owed which was, 754.92$. She mailed the check and letter certified return receipt requested, but Dr refused to sign for it, even though my friend made a good faith attempt to deliver funds to him by his deadline. This Dr again went back on his word and is now trying to gouge her out of more money, which was never owed to him in the first place!
People who are reading this review don't go to see this Chiropractor as he treats his patients like cattle and attempts to milk them for all they have got!
