BayFlower Moving Group Reviews

  • Dec 10, 2014

I am filing this report which in many ways is almost a carbon copy of the man and his girlfriend who moved to Texas for a new job. My wife also got a job in another city, but further away then Texas: Salem Oregon, and in order to make the deadline for her position, we had to move from St. Petersburg, Fl. to Salem, Oregon. We decided that my wife should go ahead and take the position in case anything went wrong because we had a daughter in college, a boy in high school and these details coupled with selling our home in Florida, might cause some problems.

Problems, well, that doesn't quite touch it as the man who filed the other report alludes to: BayFlower will double your quoted price, and time. In our case, after we had already hired professional packers to come wrap and pack anything that might need it; they cut all the wrapping and packing off, and said it was not adequate, and then proceeded to re-wrap, and re-pack and charge us additionally for all the packing, wrapping and Oh I almost forgot the most important thing TIME!!! Their time to unwrap and repack. I have receipts for all the UHaul boxes that we used, the bubble wrap, the tape, and the packers who came and packed prior to BayFlower.

I made the mistake of not going with my gut feelings about this company when they would call me and ask how I was doing on progress for a pickup in July. (Had to wait for kids to get out of school) I would give them a list of all items to be moved, and a box count with estimated card board boxes (measurements, and also totes and measurements) I told them about all furniture with dimensions and approximate weight. Bicycles, tools, a grill etc. As it turned out; 3 of the largest items that they were on their list, we decided not to take, but BayFlower never gave any credit on their charge estimate for moving us, instead they upped the box count to make up for the space that these items would have occupied. BayFlower kept calling me even after I paid the first deposit on the "estimate of how much we would be moving". They said that it was important not to go over "estimated package and furniture numbers estimate, otherwise there might be big penalties, or not enough room, and then the shipment would have to be separated. I took them at their word, since I had never done this before,

I am ex-military, formerly attached at MacDill AFB, and this is how I heard of BayFlower. Two servicemen knew about them because they had used them for short moves and said they were out of Brandon, and that their moves had not been too bad,in state- and that it was a local company. Well, the dynamics obviously change if it is a situation where you must move across country, because we found out our goods went from St.Petersburg to Miami warehouse for who knows what reason, and sat there for at least 2 weeks (after BayFlower said that we would have our delivery in Oregon in half that time.) They left my Kenmore gas grill behind- and tried to say it was not included on the manifest (it was the first item alphabetically on the manifest) then they tried to say it was not included in the walk through that the driver/loaders do before they touch anything.

The mover was sticking labels on everything, which I thought was a good thing to keep track of everything I thought- well that would be one explanation, but when I saw that my box count, furniture count, and everything else came up at least 100 pieces less than their count, I started asking myself and my sons how our count could have possibly been that much different. Also, as I alluded to earlier, and to be empirical in reporting; they quoted initially a total of $5600 for everything, but as I was advised by them to "go over what I thought the count on boxes would be" I had my count up about 50 boxes over what I thought, and then 2 dressers, one chair, and a pie safe (china cabinet antique) was struck from the list, and were not moved. When I asked about credit for those items, they said that it was given. I said I cannot find any credit for that, and you almost doubled my estimate to $9400! They came to pick up the household a week after they said they would in the first place.

My kids and I flew out to Oregon and thought that we would be close to delivery of the furniture, after all, we had been told that it would be there in about 7-10 days, so we flew almost a week later after our household items had been picked up. Well, when there was no word after a week and a half, I started calling, and began a long and tedious game of cat and phone mouse with their office. They play all kinds of games with you,put you on hold to someone "hangs up" on you. Say they will call you back, and don't, and then when you finally nail someone down, the excuses start.

Here is the real reason not to use them, if you haven't heard enough yet-

My wife and kids and I slept on the floor of our house in Oregon waiting, and calling for 29 days (legal limit before they get in real hotwater with DOT I found out by calling the DOT) and on the afternoon of the 29th day, the driver shows up by himself- no help. I ask "who is going to unload our goods if you have no help with you?"

He says, "I guess you are..."

Well after all that had happened already, I found it very hard to contain myself, but remember this you pay in cash up front before you furniture ever gets touched: a third of the amount that :they estimate, or in this case total of $9400 (that they say overage will be credited back) the pickup driver picks up enough to bring the amount in cash, up to half of the total, and the rest is cash to the driver on delivery. The driver on delivery, will charge you extra for anything that "was further from the truck then 75 ft.:, or had to go up more than one flight of 7 steps in a staircase for each item...".

We had called as I said repeatedly, and finally about a week prior to the arrival of the driver found out our furniiture had made it to a warehouse in Las Vegas. I said why, and BayFlower again said well, there was a problem with a driver. (Original problem with a driver was when the pick up driver left my grill in St. Petersburg) But I could not forget that this driver, has not been paid yet, and has all my furniture, and belongings; I hope, and my family and I are at his mercy till the goods are delivered. So We placed a call to BayFlower. We spoke to Nina, who happens to be on the East Coast of Florida, somewhere near BayFlowers east coast warehouse where our goods originally ended up, and told her about this latest developement. She says well, he can get some help...

We told her we had already asked him why he showed up without help, he said he couldn't get any (Might have had something to do with the fact that he was only willing to pay $10 per hour for back breaking work) And we told her that, and that he also said, that he would go get some laborers, but would charge anything above what he was willing to pay, and for the time that he was gone looking for them-

So luckily, we didn't trust this company for all the reasons listed so far above, and I had told my wife to ask around at work and line up some help for the move just in case. We are so fortunate that we did that. But now BayFlower has refused to pay for the difference between the $120 that was all that the driver said he would pay for the labor for 4 hours, for the 4 men, and the actual amount for labor of $400. I called immediately after we unloaded, and had to put together the dining room table (which had broken base even though according to BayFlower they had to disassemble it to keep it from getting broken, and that they would reassemble at the other end) Broke parts on both our Giant bicycles, had to take them to a bike repair shop. Lost tools, and parts of various things that they had disassembled. Broke the grill and delivered it after 2 months. So I filed a claim with BayFLower, they sent a form saying that they would pay only $200 of the remaining balance paid for labor, but this only after I negoitiated with them until the end of November.

Today, was the last straw, because BayFlower once again had kept saying that they would send the check for the labor for unloading the truck. My wife and I had to help unload the truck while the driver just stayed on the truck, and we never charged anything for our help, or our son's. The reason that I did not file this or say anything prior to this date is because, BayFlower knows as they told me that if you try to place a legal claim against them good luck!- You will be referred to the DOT division that handles interstate commerce, the attorney general in Oregon could not do anything (move originated in Florida) the Attorney General of Florida might help (state that the initial contract was signed in, but only after a long tediouse invesitgation) and then the last part - BayFlower will send a contract that states that they will be held harmless for everything if they pay anything.

Another thing you need to know if considering using BayFLower for anything, I wouldn't let them move a steel wedge across the street after this unless I didn't need it in this lifetime or at all.. Look on the Better Busness Bureau site for them (wish I had) you will see an "F" rating in the normal grading system used in schools.

The grill, after many phone calls, and 2 months time, finally made it to Oregon- with broken wheel, and no longer working had to have it repaired.

This company is the biggest scam artist in yhe state of Florida, they over charged me thousands of dollars after they had possession of my household goods and they refused to work with me on the cost. They up sold me on the fact that the salesman left off some stuff on the furniture list I provided so therefor the driver was expected to pickup much less then what I really had and then when the driver showed up to y house he told me it was gonna cost way more then originally estimated...what choice did I have at This point? I had planned this move for several months and juat didn't have the time to go anywhere else or to find a new mover and also I paid this company a deposit that I learned was non refundable after they told me I owed more and yet hadn't even picked my stuff up yet! This company should be shit down and put out of business...if there is any company in the us that you shouldn't use for loving this is it....do yourself a favor and find someone else because this is a scam and you will pay for it just the same as I did ....good luck travelers!!!
