Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. Reviews

I signed up for a Florida Blue health insurance plan through the federal marketplace effective Jan. 1 2014.

In Feb. of 2015 I called Florida Blue and switched my plan to a PPO from an HMO plan. I didn't call the federal marketplace because I didn't know I had to. I received a late notice from Florida Blue in the middle of March, called them and discovered that the payment I sent for March was credited to my old account, I asked them to change that and they told me to call the federal marketplace which I did. I told them what had happened and they said they would cancel the old policy.

Apparently the federal marketplace will only cancel a policy with a two week notice so they made my effective cancellation date April 3rd. So Florida Blue expects me to pay twice for the month of March even though it is impossible to have two policiies at the same time and I could not collect from both policies if I had a claim.

I have spent hours on the phone with both the federal marketplace and Florida Blue and I get the same bullshit answers every time. They expect me to pay for something I did not receive....which is consumer fraud.

This insurance company traps you in their system by not letting you out unless you can prove that you have another dental plan. They want you to write a letter to their grievance department in Lexington Kentucky and said that they dont posses in 2015 an email address nor a fax number. I explained to the lady I was talking to that I had Preveousely sent a certified letter to the kentucky address and I had a conformation of the arrival date and time and its 3 months later and they still show no records of ever having recived my certified letter and they want me now to send a hard copy letter to the same company requesting a cancellation of an account..yeah right I guess that I should think that it will get proccessed to my benefitted end result.

I began coverage in 02/2014 with BCBSFL. Used their website to locate a Dr. who told me, after several visits, that he did not take my insurance, leaving me with several thousand dollars of bills. I made payments for February, March & April and discovered in April, when I went to refill my insulin prescription that my insurance had been cancelled on March 31. I contacted BCBSFL to discover that yes, my policy had been cancelled for non payment in April. I explained that sent April's payment and they discovered that I had so, they stated that they would send me a refund for that payment. Several weeks went by and I received no payment, no calls from BCBSFL, still no letter stating that I had been cancelled. I contacted the marketplace and was advised that I had been terminated wrongly by BCBSFL so they did a review and I was told my insurance would be reinstated. I spoke again to BCBSFL, who was not contacting me mind you, and was advised that yes, my insurance was reinstated. So, back to the website to find a doctor. The address of the office was incorrect on the website and then, when I did locate it, across town from where it was listed, I was advised that my insurance card was inactive. I contacted BCBSFL and they verified that yes, my insurance was inactive due to bills I owed for the months that they had cancelled my insurance. WHAT??? I was cancelled and had no coverage at all, how can you possibly charge me for a service that you were not providing? Terrible, bad, horrible experience. I will never deal with them again and would strongly recommend others not do business with them either.
