Brakes Plus Inc. Reviews

  • Apr 16, 2014

I gave my daughter my 2003 Hyundai Elantra to take back to college in Omahe Ne. Creighton University. When the car needed repairs I askeed her to look around to see if anyone place came recommended by someone/someplace as to repair shopes. She informed me that Brakesplus came highlt reccomended! So, over the years she became a regular customer. I paid for all of the repairs on that vehicle,so she woujld call me when something was going to be expensive. She trusted them,""They treat me good."" I never gave much thought about the repairs that were done. I know it's not cheap to fix cars anymore. My problem started when I told her to bring the car back home (Choicago) and switch with me and take my SUV back to Omaha. She decided to stay there after graduating because she had a decent job and many friends. I opened the glove box on the Elantra to put a new insurance card in there and it was PACKED with papers. I took them out and started looking at them and they were all from the Brake plus repaires over the past couple of years. (2012-2013).. AS i started to sort them out I started seeing double charges on some. They replaced the Power Steering fluid on one ticket and then did the same think 3 months later. Then I saw a double charge on Flushing the brake fluid.A three month span between the two.I thought that was pretty strange but at that time I let it go.My daughter had the Rack&Pinion replaced. She picked up the car at closing time and as she was leaving the lot thoughjt the sterring wheel was a little hard to turn. ASs she was turning she heard some cracking noise coming from inside the steering wheel and the it loosened up and became easier to turn. She went home and the next morning she starts the car and the Air Bag Light comes on. She goes back to the repair shop 2 days later and they tell her the Clock Spring was broken the the sterring wheel column and it was a couple hundred dollars the repair. She then told them about the diffulcty in turning the wheel when she picked up the car. They told her that had nothing to do with the braking of the clock spring.I asked her to find another repair shop and get another opinion. She went to Ron's Garage ( Absolutly Great Guys). He told her the Clock Spring broke because they turned the wheel to far when replacing the Rack&Pinion. He told he knew this because he had done that himself when repairing another vehicle and had to fix it at his own cost. She went back to Brakes Plus to tell them whet she had been told by the other gut. They told her that didn't happen there and would do nothing about fixing it on their own.

At this time let me tell you I have spent over $3000.00 with them over a couple of years because my daughter felt they were giving her good service. Going back to me going over the tickets after having the car back with me (Chicago) 459 miles to her parking lot at her apt bld. There were also 2 other lights on the dash on. One was the ABS light and the TRAC control light . They came on after she had brakes done by Brakes plus. When she brought there attention to them they stated that those lightgs had nothing to do with the brake job they had just done. I couldn't believe they said that to her, but being so far away there wasn't much I could do. NOTE: I have to wonderf if this was me having the car repaired and not my ""DAUGHTER"" would the outcome have been any different. I had thought that the attage about taking advantage of women wrer over. I can only hope this wasn't the case here, but one has to wonder. Getting back to having the car back home, I sent Brakes plus an e-mail questioning the lights on the dash board. The store manage from thje store that did the repairs called me and told me he would pull the records and ghet6 back to me. This happened on March 14th. 2014. He got back to me on the following Monday. He started giving me the same song and dance he gave my daughter. I asked at this time ""Who are you?"" He said he was the store mananger. I toldhim at that time I would not have this cinversation with him. I wanted someone from the Corp side to contact me. A couple of hours later a person named ""Ron"" called me and said he was the regional manager for Brakes plus. After thid I'm going to call the ""Bp' to save space and time.At that time he solunded very concerned about my problem. He told me that the doubnle charges would be refunded to me and they were. He also told me to take my car to my repair shop and get an estimate to fix the dash light. I brought my car to Midas in Naperville,Illinois. I have had ALL of my cars worked on there for over the last 10 years withou so much as a come back for a problem with a repair.

Jim the manager there has been the person I have delt with almost every time my cars came in. I told him about the problems with the Elantra and my conversation with Bp. Jim said he'd look it over a get back to me. Later the same day Jim called me. The first thing out of his mouth was ""the person that worked on my car should never work on another car in his life."" He proceeded to run through the list of problems that he found. When the Rack was replaced the piece that installs to the steering shaft was put on wrong. When done correctly there is a bilt that goes in to hold it togerther, i think. Anyway that piece was installed wron so when the bolt was put back in it completly stripped off all the threads. I have pictures and the parts. The ""Tie Rod Ends"" we not centered. One tie rod had most of the threads into it, and the other om was being held on by a couple of threads. Again I have pictures. Jim told me it was a shame because he was going to have to replace the entire steering shaft because of the damage done when that part was installed wrong to it. All and all the estimatye came out to $ 1200.00. I faxed the estimate and all the pictures to ""Ron"". He called the next day and started giving me the song and dance about the car being old and the shaft could have wear on it so maybe it did not have to be replaced. He also started back with the same old story about the lights on the dash, stating those lights could not have come on when the braked were being replaced. He asked me if he could talk to Jim directly and I told him I thought that was a good idea. RFon, called me back and started saying that after talking to Jim he asked him if he would be able to find a used shaft and would I be OK with that. I told him that I would be fine with that, afterall the car is a 2003 and all I want is it fixed back to being correct. I could here Ron doing some math in his head and after a little while he told me that he would give me $ 350.00 to have the car fixed and if there were ant additional costs I woiuld have to pay fot those out of my pocket. That money he said was to fix the steering only and he would not do anything about the ABS & TRAC dash lights. I was on my own with those. I told him that was unacceptable and he said take it or leave it. I told him to have a nice day and hung up on him.

I can't even begin to tell you how pissed I am at this time. I'm going to take this issue all the way to the top, wherever that may be. He doesn't understand that I'll spen $10,000.00 or more if I have to to bury him and his company after being talkedt to like that ""Take it or Leave it"" I'm starting here, and if anyone else here that I already read about would like to take your problems any further lets join up together. We might be able to get enough of us to file a class action law suite against them. That'll drain their pockets quickley. I'm ready to go to the Attorney General in Nebraska. I know not all of you are from Ne. but if I remember corretly a class action law suite doesn't have to be from people in the same state. Anyone here can reach me at(((REDACTED))). Remember everyone has more strength in numbers. It seems Bp doesn't really give crap about us,Only money, so lets hurt them in their pocket. A class action lawsuite would really hurt them!!!!
