Budget Motor Company Reviews

  • May 15, 2014

I initially contacted a car dealer who was advertising a truck on eBay Motors with a ""Buy It Now"" option. Truck was advertised as ""Looks great, runs great, drives great"". I contacted the dealer to inquire about freight. Upon their reply I asked how to proceed and if I just needed to click the ""Buy It Now"" button on the eBay posting. Dealer advised me not to do so and had me purchase directly. I sent a $3000 cashier's check via UPS for the downpayment and took out a bank loan for the balance. Total of $19924.51 was sent. Another $1495.34 in sales tax was paid in cash.

Dealer waited for a couple of weeks after being paid in full before even shipping the truck. When the truck arrived it did not run (would start but was not driveable). It also had two broken taillights and a broken handle on the console which was clearly not broken in the original photos. I now know that eBay offers a buyer protection plan if purchased through them for vehicles not as advertised so it is my belief that this dealer knew the truck did not run and purposely advised me not to go through eBay so I did not get this protection. I contacted the dealer right away to report the vehicle condition. He claimed the vehicle ran great when it left. He said if I was not happy with the vehicle I could return it for a refund but advised me to first find out what was wrong with it. I put it on a scanner that showed a misfire in all 8 cylinders. Reported this to dealer and got no response so I took it to the local Ford dealer for further diagnosis (as per his recommendation). The truck has a blown engine and is in need of repairs in excess of $8800. Again contacted the dealer, informed him of the estimate (and emailed it to him), and told him I wanted to take him up on his offer to return the vehicle for a refund. He said he would provide a refund but only if the vehicle was returned in excellent mechanical condition because that is how it left. The vehicle was shipped on a truck, not driven, so there is no way for the engine to get blown between there and my house. It was clearly like this when it left. I advised him of such and asked that he do the right thing. trucking company that moved the vehicle was hired by and paid for by the dealer so if something happened to the vehicle in transit, as he claims, it should be a legal matter between he and the freight company.

Dealer has now cut off all communications with me and I am stuck with a $20,000+ vehicle which needs another $9000 in repairs before it is even usable. Please note that I never signed any paperwork purchasing the vehicle because of the condition it arrived in so technically the transaction was never completed. All I want is either for the truck to be repaired at their costs or for them to take it back and refund my money. I am currently making payments on this vehicle and it is accumulating storage fees at the dealer until I can get resolution.
