Late last winter, huge gales tore off the glass panel installed above our front porch and shattered it all over our front step. So we cleaned up the mess and got a roofer in to replace it. First he was very nice and amiable and seemed to be very reliable. He said he would get us a nice coloured non-breakable panel for $500. Unfortunately, he couldn't get the right size so accepted that. Instead we got two plain plastic panels with a join along the middle. We didn't particularly like the join down the middle but we thought "Ok well, so long as it works..."
It didn't work. Instead of sliding down towards the steps as we were promised, the rain accumulated on the panel, ran down the sides and entered the front door, almost ruining our wooden door in the process, which swelled to the point of being impossible to open without huge effort. Our elderly mother was unable to open it at all, and had to call one of us whenever she needed to open the door. The doorknob was also in danger of damage.
We tried to get the guy back but he refused to come, creating endless excuses about having suffered injuries etc. Eventually the situation culminated in this phone call, made by my sister on Monday 15 September 2014, 5 pm.
Owner of Bulldog Roofing Ltd. (name not known) claimed to be in Accident & Emergency Ward in hospital with an injury.
Sister (quite upset) "We have an elderly lady here who can't open the door".
Owner: "This is ridiculous. I'm in A&E and you're worried about an old lady who can't open the door."
Sister: "Yes I am".
Owner: "Don't **** with me; you're messing with the wrong guy."
Sister hung up, phoned back. Owner refused to supply an office number and said there was nobody else available; everyone was off work tomorrow.
We are currently undergoing renovations to the house and we will have to get the job re-done, at our expense. I think the owner of Bulldog Roofing Ltd. is no longer in business as I haven't seen it advertised locally, but if they are still around, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.
This company is NOT to be confused with a certain company called Bulldog in Tauranga, who are completely independent of any of this.
