My husband and I purchased a GSD puppy from Butler's Shepherds on May 13, 2015. Mr. Butler assured us that the puppy was a "show" quality puppy being sold for a "pet" quality price. While sitting in his office (light was dim) he fumbled through paperwork. He did not go over the paperwork with us. We paid him $650 in cash. He did not provide a bill of sale per PA State law requirements of licensed kennels. At the time of meeting the puppy, we were outside in an area and it was windy and chilly. She was outside the entire time we were there on the property. Once in the car we noticed a very foul smell. The puppy had fecal matter/urine caked in her under coat. Once home we had a chance to review the paperwork and found that the puppy had already been sold/returned. That was never disclosed.

The puppy also has a broken tail which was not disclosed at time of sale either. Groomer can testify to the fecal matter/urine. There was no health certificate given with the puppy per PA State law requirement of licensed kennels. I explained to Mr. Butler that my husband is a police officer, that we have twins with complex medical issues and that we are honest people. He deceived us by withholding pertinent information. Had he disclosed any of this information we would have clearly never purchased any dog/puppy from him. I have emails where Mr. Butler told me that it was "not his responsibility" to go over any paperwork. He also told me that he did not have to disclose to us that the said puppy had a broken tail because he sold her as a "pet" quality although he claimed she was "show" quality. His website clearly states that ALL of his dogs/puppies are dual registered with AKC/ACA, this is NOT the case. Said puppy came with ACA papers. The sire of the puppy is also the sire of the mother. Apparently, he uses the same male for ALL of his females which are ALL related.

There's a HUGE difference between line breeding and inbreeding. His 13+ dogs were in small cubicles. On the property there is no grass as the so called "kennel" is located on the second floor of a garage in the city. I wrote to Mr. Butler told him of the situation told him that we were quite upset that he is a dishonest person that witheld pertinent information when it came to us making a sound decision. I asked him for our $650 back in exchange for his puppy. He was extremely cocky and distasteful with no respect. If you are curious to how his dogs are living go onto his FaceBook page under Butler's Shepherds and view his video. No one in their right mind could condone such inhumane practises. Furthermore, we were told by others that have been bullied by him after running into issues that before the current kennel set up he has, he had all 13+ dogs housed in the basement of his home. Rescue would call him a dog hoarder not a breeder. A reputable breeder stands behind their dogs. A reputable breeder discloses ALL pertinent information regarding the dog/puppy being sold. A reputable breeder does NOT forge documents. A reputable breeder does not lie to cover their tracks. A reputable breeder provides a contract and a guarantee. This man is a very very good con-artist at best. He needs to be stopped. Michelle, York, PA. SEE Revelation 21:8

Craigslist

I found an add on Craigslist and called the number listed 717-250-2417 to request more information on the German Shepherd puppies listed for sale. The gentlemen who answered replied "I don't have no add on Craigslist." I googled the number after verifying it was indeed the one listed in the add and the number that it pulled up had previous listings for Butler's Shepherds. Something seems like a scam to me. Glad I didn't make the four hour drive though. :)

I got a dog from butler's he had it listed on craigslist for sale. Claimed it had papers, had some pictures. When i went to meet the dog in person the dog was in poor condition, he didn't have papers for her. She looked like she was overly bred, bred every heat cycle. She has so many issues, shes timid, has fear aggression, can't socialize with other dogs, is skittish. acts like she was beat or abused. She acts like she never seen grass or outside. He kept his dogs in his basement. When i was there a fight broke out between a few of his dogs and he was afraid and couldn't break them up. He don't know how to control his dogs.

Do your research when looking for a breeder, or wanting to adopt a retired breeding dog. Seems to me he's only about the business. Its a business to him and he don't care about the welfare of the animals. He claims to be just a shepherd breeder but he's had pitbull litters and shih tzu litters as well.

I would like to say my experience with this breeder. First off if you try and find a home for a german shepherd do your research before believingsomeones story. He will most likely contact you for your female shepherd if its over a year old. He will lie about being a breeder and put on a good act.

I rehomed my shepherd that I rescued from a puppymill to him because he put on a good show, had his wife with and everything. I told him if he no longer wanted her that id get her back and asked for updates. He assured me that id get updates and that his home would be her forever home.

After not getting updates I decided to search his number on google to find out he breeds german shepherds. So I contacted him and asked why he didnt tell me. Then he just told me he breeds select west german line shepherds. Well then whyd he want my rescue she was american and a puppymill dog. Anyways I tried being friends with him. Because I thought just maybe hed be a good breeder and carr about thr welfare of the dogs. He then bred my rescue. Changed her registration to ACA and changed her name under his name.

But again I was trying to be his friend. I mistakeningly gave him an akc dog that was a sibling to mine thinking maybe hed care about her too. Still trying to see the good in his "program" he kept telling me I could get a puppy from him in exchange because I never charged him for either dog. Well he lied which was no big deal. But I found out so much about his business. He does no hip or health testings, over breeds his dogs.

In january he sold my rescue dog after selling all her pups. She was 4 but he sold her as a 1 year old. My friend haa her daughtee who I also rescued. Tell me how the daughter is older then the mom? And he sold the akc dog without papers. Both for 250 and he got both for free.

Time went by and he decided to create a website where he listed his dogs and their pedigrees. Well his one dog that is missing part of her ear that he had from at least 2010 probably longer was on there with a pedigree from my akc dog. He used her papers on his older dog. His older dog was not born november 5th 2012. He has pics of said dog posted from novrmber 6th 2012 and way before. Unless she was born fullgrown.

He is lying and scamming people. Everytime he gets found out he complains and tries and gets his fans to get him to feel hes the best.

Butler's Shepherds steals his breeding females or gets them free off of craigslist. He then forges the paperwork from other people's dogs to register them under AKC or ACA. If you look at his website, Agent Lawsuit Lexi has a cut off ear which she did not have when he got her. That is because the dog was stolen and he used fraudulent information to register her under ACA, also stating that she was only a year old, however she had already produced MULTIPLE litters of puppies! Butlers also does no hip or health testing on his dogs, but claims he does, however when you ask for proof he cannot produce it. Butlers claims to be the best breeder in America however everything he does is a scam and illegal. Someone needs to look into his business practices ASAP.
