In 2012 we had a salesman come to our door to sell us a water softener. We explained to him that we did not have enough money for it and when he asked how much we could afford I explained to him the most I could pay is 150 a month. He said what he could do is keep my payments at 150 and I made sure to find out how long we would pay which he specifically told me we would only pay for three years. He also said he was throwing in an automatic garage door opener and security system with cameras as an incentive and we wouldnt have a payment for 6 months. He actually gave us the cash for the garage and told us to use that to pay for the garage. When they came out to install everything they drilled a 2 inch hole through our wall above our back door and ran cables threw our living room for the cameras which broke after a month of having them and once we saw them drilling the hole it was too late to stop them. 3 months later I received a call from carmel financial stating we owed a payment I explained what the salesman told me we didnt have a payment for 6 months and they said that was not the case. I also received a bill from them stating that if we paid 150 a month we would pay for 16 years which is an astronomical amount for a water softener. Too make a long story short I told them I wanted the contract and I would not pay until I received which I received two years later. I believe that the contract they sent was not what I signed since I would have never signed for a revolving line of credit. They placed a UCC lien on my property the same month that the water softener was purchased without telling me and now I am about to be served with a lawsuit by Carmel financial for over 13,000. I am guesstimating the amount since that is what is showing on my credit report as charged off. I do not know the name of the company that sold it to us and there is no info on the water softener. No name brand or anything. I have been searching for documentation but I don’t remember receiving documents from the salesman. I guess I can chalk this up to stupidity of first time homebuyers.

In 2007 my wife and I purchased a home in Sun City Center, Florida. We had a nice young lady come to our home shortly after we moved in. We did not contact her, she came to our door. We listened to her, and we watched her demonstration to prove why we needed a soft water system. In our newly purchased home. We thought it was a good idea to do this so we signed up with her. About a week later a gentleman came to our home and put a cyclinder and a plastic garbage can with a lid on it. I was under the assumption that the unit would be serviced by them and salt added when needed. Man was I wrong. Not only did they not service the system but I had to purchase my own bags of salt and put the salt in when it needed to be added. I called them several l times to let them know the system was overflowing water outside and it would run continuously. I finally called and left a message for them to come take the faulty system out. No one ever responded. I eventually called Culligan water services to see if they could make the system work. They sent a tech to my home and he said it was froze up and could not repair it. I eventually had Culligan remove the faulty equipment and I am now a satisfied customer with Culligan. I notified Carmel Financial on many occasions telling them the system did not work. I asked them to please remove the system they refused and told me that they would garnish my wages if I did not pay them since I am a 100% total and permanent disabled veteran, and receive only disability from Social Security, they were unable to garnish my wages. However, Carmel Financial has continued to add interest and a bill that should have been no more than $1000.00 is now up to over $11,000.00. This is so unfair and ridiculous. I can not pay this stupid amount nor do I believe that I am required to. I sent there a law about swindling senior citizens?
