Dish Network conned me for two years after I had a fire at my house and moved out. I called them shortly after the fire, the week of June 8, 2013, to close the account and they conned me into keeping my account open promising me “it will not cost me any money.” Two years later, July 2015, they claim I owe them $947.83 for services and equipment. They did not tell me they wanted their fire damaged equipment back when I could give it back to them when I still lived in Huntsville, AL. No, now in July 2015, they want the equipment plus money for “services” in the past two years while I have lived in Elizabeth City, NC. I have not received any services from them since the fire in June 8, 2013. They conned me into keeping the account open so they could bill me for services not possible. I called them several times to close the account, but they would not listen to anything I had to say, just “I will not have to pay them if I keep the account suspended.” Now, I get this bill for $947.83. What a con job!

On our plan DISH Internet allows for 10g of internet usuage per month. There are plans that offer more data but this quickly becomes very expensive. The package of internet use that we have includes TV and Internet and is 159.00 doallars per month. This is a very minimal package and incldes, a basic channel package (the lowest offered) and a HOPPER. The HOPPER, a fancy DVR, allows for one to watch programs on demand. However, we are prohibited form using this feature because that will immediately put us over on our monthly internet allotment.

With the internet package offered we can browse the internet, check email and go on facebook. Still this past month, June 2015, we were over our data allotment after the first week. 2gb were added for a cost of 20 doallars and this was used up in two days. I called DISH and asked to see how the data was being used and was told that privacy regulations prevented them from sharing this information. I was informed that I could check usuage from the router log. This is true but it does not show data usuage (only usuage). This means that there is no way of proving if someone was watching video or checking email. As we are in a rural area without nearby neighbors, we know that no one is using our service without our knowledge. Anyway, the rep could not satisfy my request for a definite accounting of these charges but offered an additional 2g of data to compensate. These 2g were used up in 2 days time. I purchased an additional 1g last night. In total 5g were added and in is June 20, ten days remain in this usage period. When we go over usuage, DISH slows down service to a trickle. This is slower than dial-up. DISH is the only internet supplier in this rural area so they literally have a choke-hold on our service.

We are paying more for this internet service and getting less for it and I question how DISH measures data use.

There are two adults in the household. An 85 year old and a 60 year old. We do not stream video. We browse the internet, go on Facebook and check email. This is it and this is unacceptable.

There has to be a better to account for usuage charges. Is the consumer to take DISH at their word? That is what is being asked of us. What other business operates this way? How is this legal?

Consumers beware. Stay away from DISH if you can help it.

After being a loyal customer for almost 20 years, it came time for an upgrade, because my equipment was so old that it quit working. So I called and I was told that it would cost me a one time upgrade fee of, $510, plus the monthly rental fee.

I was like " not no but, *** No". So I started looking on the internet and found a page on the dish website that said an upgrade fee of $199. So I called back, that was for NEW customers only. So she went through the spill, and and then told me that it would be the monthly rental fee plus a one time upgrade fee of $760. "What the ***?" I told her she better check her numbers, and she supposedly looked over the computer, and said that was right.

I told her to transfer me to a supervisor, or higher, she put me on hold, and came back and said the supervisor confirmed that was right. Then she said because she tried to find a way to get me a discount, the supervisor said I could either pay it, or not get an upgrade. I lost it, and did something I never do, and went off on the phone person. I worked a call-center phone support, those guys on the phone, have nothing to do with any of it, it's not their fault so I don't take it out on them. I did apologize, and then told her that I had paid my last dish network bill, because I would be calling directv, because I be *** if I bend over and not use vaseline over tv service.

After 20 years as a customer, referring several people, never late on a payment, upgrading every chance I got. By my calculations after 20 years of service, at an average monthly bill of $100, I have paid them $24,000, and they want to rape me with a $500-$700 upgrade fee. What the ***? They don't value my being a customer for that long, enough to reward my loyalty? They would prefer to get people to sign up, and then leave, so they can say they can brag about all their new customers, instead of all the loyal customers. I don't get it.

I was a Dish Customer for over 4 years, no contract. During those years service was reduced for 1 month at my request. I did not have any service disconnects. I moved in December of 2014, requested the Dish service be installed at my new address. When the installer arrived he told me my old receiver wouldn't work, that I would need a new receiver. I owned my old receiver. He told me there were no replacement receivers available that I could purchase nor would I be given any credits for my old receiver. I had to up grade to the new receiver. Before he installed the receiver I had to talk to a customer service rep and tell them I was approving the installation of the new, upgraded receiver, the rep also confirmed I would now have to pay extra monthly. The installer had to return to install the antenna. As I was signing off on the final installation papers he says "Oh by the way a new contract was required" gave me my receipt and left. I'm 73, just moved, am emptying a moving container in between sleet and snow storms in December. I was stunned. I do not do contracts. Turn on the TV, they are fighting with Fox News, content removed. I'm a fan. Explained a lot. They weren't answering customer service calls. So; I took care of business, finished up my move, got all those loose ends tied up from moving, paid the bill at the end of December as usual, did some research and changed services to a different provider in early Jan.

Logged into my account at the end of Jan. was unable to get chat rep, still couldn't get through on phones. Tried to remove card from my account was unsuccessful. Tried to login to account the end of Fed., account had been removed, login had failed. Towards the end of March, received the boxes and paperwork to return the receiver. Boxed up, waiting for my son to find time to take me to UPS drop off, UPS shows up at the door, I give them the box. Got notification they had received the returns. Received a bill for shipping charges in April. At the end of April, they charged my card for over 200.00. I did not authorize that charge. This time I got through to a Rep, got moved up the chain since none of them could explain why I had been forced into a contract after over 4 years, no disconnects, history with the company. The final rep was supposedly in the Dish Presidents office, said the contract was required because of the new receiver, that I had been told the up grade would require a contract, (Really?), that they would reverse the charge if I became a dish customer again, and hung up on me. I received 2 emails a couple of days later that they are going to charge my card again for over 250.00 for unspecified charges on June 16th.

I am in the process of disputing the charges on my account for the April charges because they did not give me advance notice, do not feel I owe them a dime. Until December of 2014 if I had been asked, I would of recommended them. Now I have to say they are among the most unethical companies I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Established customers will get trampled on, good paying record doesn't count with these guys.

I am a client of Dish Network with a 2yr contract, I signed up for 9mos. suspention plan that they have paying only $5/month, it ended up the begining of feb 2015 and the account became active again, which I didn't became aware but when I did in April 2015, I pay the "chargers" we agreed when I called and after that I requested to disactivate(suspend) not cancel account and continue with the $5/month with no service again...

Anyways I received a bill again for montly charges, and than a box to return everything to them since they claimed that my account was cancelled for not paying for 1 month...

They refused to correct any error they made, and gave me 2 choices: 1. pay $1800+ or 2. pay $125 to reactivate account and than disactivate again for 3months....

I tried to avoid those changers since that was not what we had agreed on april when I paid the fees we agreed, but they refused to corrected. I even told them that my sister was able to take my account and transfer to her and that she could stay with them so they won't have to lose $$ but still they want money I should not have to pay for their mistakes...They didn't care for What I had to say or my concerns, and now I'm concern about my credit, that they are going to report it when I pay what I had to and we agreed to something and they didn't honor that.. very bad customer service.

Dish is horrible!!!! I moved and they charged me a move in deal of $100.00. I can't wait for my contract to be up. I will never recommend them. They have the worse packages. When I called the lady kept offering me to downgrade my package as if that was going to help me when my issue was the ridiculous move in deal fee. Not sure why they call it a deal cause it's definitely not a deal for me more like a deal for them. Definitely switching when my contract is up.

These people keep calling my cell phone. Caller ID shows the number 866-668-8047. First of all I do NOT have satellite tv of any kind and second if I did it would not be DISH Network which is what the automated answer is if I call that number back. They have called me as early as 6:30 a.m. They either leave a message that is nothing but a very long silence, up to 30 minutes, yes, a half hour, or they leave a bunch of gibberish that sounds like parts of words (e.g. not a foreign language just the kind of stuff you hear when a caller's cell phone is almost out of range). I am well aware of the scams that satellite tv companies put people through and I want none of it. I do not have cable, I do not have any kind of satellite tv and moreover on the rare occasions I actually watch tv it is only PBS. I have e-mailed them repeatedly to stop calling me but they will not do it. I am in the process of filing not only an FTC and FCC complaint but also going to file a complaint with my state's attorney general's office, consumer affairs division. I don't understand why when I have registered for do-not-call lists and am extremely careful who I give my phone number out to, these people think they have the right to harass. They are doing me harm by the constant calling and I am also looking into whether I can sue them in addition to filing government complaints.

We had Dish for over 5 years and also got their internet. Their internet is horrible and they lie to you about the usage you get. We complained so much about the internet that they voided our contract with it. We then decided to go with our local cable and internet so we told Dish and they said we owed nothing then we got a bill for $177 and I called them and they said it was for their service and I argued with them and got nowhere.

Now we got a letter from a collection agency for $330.40 for Dish. I called Dish and they said it was for service and for ternimating our contract. We are furious with them! After arguing with them about this they finally found where we had no contract and said they would reduce our bill to $199. I said for what?? For their service and for all the taxes on the $330.40!! I got irrate with them and they said they would reduce our bill by $75. But we are still turned over to a collection agency for $330.40!! Never do business with them again!

It is such a horrible thing when a company as big as DISH NETWORK scams its customers. I went to my channels, FS2 (fox sports 2).....cuz those penny pinchers offer FS2, but not FS1...... On wednesday to record the premier of the new season of The Ultimate Fighter, that premeiered on thursday and set it to record..... WELL, when i went back to watch it yesterday, my DISH HOPPER said the recording had stopped.....WELL I DIDNT STOP IT @ 1AM! So i go to look at the channel to record it next time it comes on......only to find out that DISH pulled FS2!!!!!

In a matter of a day, with no notice, so now I missed the premier. DISH keeps pulling our channels and not replacing them but yet our prices dont go down and realistically, legally, thats breach of contract because when each individual signs up with them, they agree to the channels in the channel package of their choosing. THIS IS ALSO FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! !!!!! Now due to no notice and all the games DISH wants to play, THEY HAVE LOST ANOTHER CUSTOMER! I will happily be watching The Ultimate Fighter as a DIRECT TV CUSTOMER! As well as spreading the horrible reputation of DISH in as many ways as possible!!!!!

  • Apr 22, 2015

Called main DISH number to inquire about Internet and TV service, and was given a price for bundled services. TV was installed, and we were told that Internet service would be installed in a week or so.

No contact concerning Internet for a week. Calls were made to DISH, and we were told for another week that it was on the way. After several more calls, we found out that no Internet service was available. The only reason DISH was selected was for the combination of Internet and TV. TV service was immediately canceled.

DISH charged us a total of $966 for TV that was sold under false pretenses and canceled as soon as the scam was discovered.

I disputed the charges on my credit card and filed a report with the BBB. I received a call that the charges would be removed from the credit card.

Hello Sir

Dish network failed to provide my fox news for about one month during approx dec 2014/jan 2015, so I cancelled their service.

Now they have billed me $193.57 for cancellation of contract (which I have no copy of) and their the ones that took away my fox news!!

I called them about my dissatification to no avail-very poor customer service. They are the ones who failed to continue to provide the services I ordered!

I told them I will put into dispute.

I was in the market for lower cost internet and satellite so I looked online and my area is limited in choices. Dish Network was advertising a lower cost service. So I spoke with several different people. They made me go through a credit check and give out my address and phone number multiple times and my social (to obstensibly get my credit report).

OK we had scheduled my "free" installation for Saturday April 11, 2015 for my appointment. As this package supposedly also included internet I was directed to the internet department. Yet again I am asked for the same information all over again when I am under the impression it's all been taken care of.

When I get to the internet department due to an issue with my provider from over a year ago I am told I'd have to pay that balance first. Now remember I was told everything was taken care of and we were good to go. OK so I tell the lady I'm talking to my funds won't allow me to pay off that debt at this current time. She's begging and saying she will give me a $100 credit towards the new service if I will stay with Dish and Earthlink (Time Warner Cable). OK I run out of time and she's supposed to call me the following day. I miss the call and call back. Where as I have to go through the same identifying process as before and yet another credit check and this is where I said NO!

I called when I arrived home and had whom I thought was the right person assure me my service installation had been cancelled. Then he says now you have to call the financial department to get the $41.64 refunded. I said but you told me you were the finance department. he said no. Gave me another number. I call this time and I'm furious. I told the guy to put that money back in my account immediately. He said he had taken care of it. OK I get up this morning and the $41.64 is still sitting there but as a pending transaction (hasn't posted yet). However then I see yet another charge of $49.99. Imagine my shock and fury. I call the company and he immediately starts in on wanting all my information for what is about the 7th time when I in no uncertain terms tell him to put my money back immediately. This is a scam and a ripoff. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau today and going to my bank and dispute the charges and hopefully by this report it will never happy to anyone else. The $49.99 as an unauthorized charge.

I hope someone does something about these people.

I was with dish for 4 years cancelled to try out direct tv. now i get a bill charging me early termination fee my contract was only for 24 months u idiots !!now they say when they replaced broken equipment and brought new i supposedly signed new contract worse customer serce DO NOT USE DISH

In December of 2014 I was out of contract with Direct Tv, and decided to take advantage of Dish Networks offer of a PRE-PAID $150.00 Visa gift card for switching to them.

My service was installed on Dec.27 2014 and I questioned the installer where the card was and was told it would be mailed in 2 weeks.

January passed and the middle of Feb 2015 I called to find out what was going on, and was told the request for the card was never processed and they would have to review the tape to be sure I was on the gift card list.

2 weeks went by and I called again and was told that I would have to get a $100.00 and a $50.00 card because they no longer offered that program and the tape showed I was supposed to get the card and they would mail it out that week.

The middle of March 2015 I called to find out where the card was and again was told there was an error in the processing and they would "expidite" the process and I would have it is 4 days

NO CARD AS OF March 27 2015, so I called again and told them that I was still waiting and that if I did not have the card by April 1 2015 I was turning it over to our states Atty. Generals office for Fraur and breech of contract

On April 2 I got a call from the office of the president of Dish stating it would take 6 TO 8 Weeks to get the card I told them I was in the hands of the Atty Generals office now and you can deal with them.

The bottom line is... If the installer does not have the card in his pocket when you get installed tell them to leave.

I subscribed 2 days after Christmas 2014 and now I have to wait until June 2015 to possibly get thw card!!!!

Dish has, without any authority, taken over $350 out of my bank account. I had just signed up for Dish when Fox Channels were removed from its lineup. I called them many times and they could not tell me if or when Fox Channels would be back so I canceled. I was told that I would not have to pay an early termination fee. I guess that was until they decided to steal it. I had no notice whatsoever. Please contact me if there will be or is any class action in Michigan re Dish's unfair business practices.

I made the mistake of signing up for the most expensive Dish (Hughes) internet package ($99.99/month with equipment rental) with advertised speed of 10Mbps. I'm lucky to get 1%-7% of that from 7am until after midnight. Had 3 different techs come out over a 3 month period to try to fix. The last tech was a field manager who said, and I quote: "Dish outsells it's ability to provide any decent bandwidth. If it were up to me I would do it differently but it's not. I'm really sorry folks. You don't know how many times I've had to tell other people the same thing."

Dishes solution to the problem is to let me out of my contract without charging me an early termination fee. How generous of them. To not charge me for a service they don't provide......

Why aren't more people complaining about this?!?

My husband and I have been with this company since 2013 And when we signed up for service we told them we had HD tv's They responded by saying the did not offer HD dvr's and we could not qualify right then for the hooper. They then told us that after 2 years of good payment history and service we would be able to upgrade to the hooper they offer. So Monday we got a friendly post card from them that said we could up grade no money up front. So I called this week and they then told me oh we are sorry but you have to pay $350 for the hooper or $250 for the new HD DVR. I mean seriously they lied to get our business then when I pointed that to the Rep she said she was sorry but that there was a chang in policy. I am sorry but this company should have to honor what they told us and their other customer's.

I changed internet prividers from hughesnet to dishnet. and the service slowed down. I paid the extra money to get more user time and the speed of download slowed again.

dishnet and hughesnet use the same equipment, so how can it possibly be different service? Other than they are controlling speed of download so more people can get crappy service.

Contacted dishnet 3 separate time and they replaced all hardware and cable to our computer. Download speed at it's fastest was less than 3mbps.

the past couple of weeks download speed is .5 mbps or slower in the normal use times. 4pm to 8pm pacific time.

the last response from dishnet was there wasn't anything else they could do...

I moved to a location (Across state) that did not allow satelite services. I contacted dish to see about terminating my contract and was told that was not allowed. I was told that they could put my service on "pause" for $5 a month and when I moved into a place that allowed satellite services, i could "pick up where I left off". I called Dish on March 9, 2015 to restore service and give them my new address. I was informed that they could not give me the credits owed to me because I had paused the service. I finally got to speak to "gilbert" who tells me he can offer me the credits for 6 months. I agree and tell him to restore the service. Gilbert then informs me I have to pay $100 "move fee" to restore the service. I tell Gilbert that again noone has mentioned anything regarding these fees. I didnt have to pay any fees up front for the intial installation, so why would I have to pay the fees to turn the service back on? I was told no fees when turning off the "pause" program. Glibert says he cant waive the fees. I tell Gilbert I would have cancelled 6 months ago when I moved if they had revealed all this information instead of telling me that I would pick up where I left off. I Tell Gilbert if they cannot honor their end of the deal I want the service cancelled and they are not to remove any money from my account until this issue is resolved.

The sales rep not only joked me into the service but got me in contract and told me it was month to month. That was the least of my worries . They also mixed my bill with previous tenant which took them 5 months to fix with hours of my time waisted explaining the same story 70 times and being on hold for 45 min. Everytime i was promised it would be fixed! Was not. Finally a gentlemen named randy helped me out, he was great and fixed my issues but now my bill is off, wrong price and is $380 for one month. Now they won't let me speak to randy and cannot get ahold of him directly. My bill is over 300 dollars more then i actually owe and there telling if i don't pay the 380 my services will get shut off and I'm in a contract i never knew about.. Looks like they will be sending me to collections. DO NOT USE DISH!!!! WARNING

I just discovered Dish taking $408 from my 83 year old dads checking account . Dad has been in a nursing home since October 2014. I tried to talk to Dish in August when he moved out of his house and was told that he had been signed up for the premium package. He only wanted to see the News and Gunsmoke. Dish would not cancel at the time but did reduce the bill to $17.99 per month. I told them to send a box to ship back the dish unit. They took $260 out of dads account last week and are trying to take an attitional $148 this week. I called and got the run around. I was told the $260 was to cancel the contract and the $148 was the cost of the equipment. When I asked questions about the account I was told the account could not be pulled up on the computer but that those were the charges.

I RECENTLY SIGNED UP FOR DISH NETWORK AND LIVE IN AN APARTMENT AND THEY ARE RENOVATING OUR PROPERTY. I DIDN'T KNOW AFTER I MOVE BACK TO MY APARTMENT, I COULDN'T HAVE DISH BECAUSE MANAGEMENT IS SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY FOR RENOVATION AND THEY DON'T WANT TO DEFACE THEIR PROPERTY IN ANY WAY WHEN WE MOVE BACK! THE DAY THE INSTALLATION GUY CAME OUT, HE STOPPED HIS WORK AND CAME INSIDE AND CALLED AND THEY SAID I WAS ON FLEX BILLING,WHATEVER THAT MEANS AND THAT I WAS STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DISH! IF I TERMINATED EARLY, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 480.00 DOLLARS AND I'VE ONLY HAD IT A WEEK! SOME GUY WAS TRYING TO ENCOURAGE ME TO KEEP IT IN MY NAME EVEN THOUGH I COULDN'T HAVE IT!EVEN IF I GET THE SERVICE SUSPENDED FOR 9 MONTHS, I WILL HAVE TO PAY 5 DOLLARS A MONTH EVEN THOUGH I. DON'T HAVE IT! I AM ON A FIXED INCOME! I SWITCHED TO DISH BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE CHEAPER, TRYING TO SWITCH FROM A CABLE COMPANY THAT WAS OUTRAGEOUSLY HIGH! PLEASE, PLEASE SOMEONE, I NEED HELP IN RESOLVING THIS MATTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TIME TO PASS AND I OWE THESE PEOPLE! PLUS, I DON'T WANT TO MESS UP MY CREDIT! THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND CONCERN!

This is a company with very poor business practices. I was a faithful payer for five years and when I switched they treated me like crap. They were sore losers. They sent me a pre-paid box to send back their equipment and then Charged me for it instead of having one of their local installers pick it up. When I didn't pay the shipping charges right away they doubled my charge and called me daily to harrass me- and were talking about a measly $7.95. I paid religiously for over 6 years adn then decided to bundle with Cox Comm. Dish isn't even in Stereo. I love the new servce in stereo. Dish are Shitheads - Do not register with them. I am still getting calls and don't intent to pay. Hope this has been helpful. Truth, Jonathon

Dish network employee made a huge whole on my ceiling 3 months ago, since then the whole is still there and they did not fix it. I contacted dish network to have Spanish channels on the guess room for my family coming from Mexico. The guy that made the installation fell through the ceiling making a huge whole on my ceiling this was back in November (16th) until now the damage was not fixed. Now I have dust coming from the attic, all my walls are covered in black dust, we have spiders e every were, my daughter is getting sick and the actual is starting to have problems, there is dust every were. They do not care. I called more than 30 times and no response yet. I'm tired of this situation. The contractor that they have is busy all the time, I asked for another contractor and they say that will be more time. I already spend in a hotel stays for my family for thanksgiving and for Christmas too, they can not sleep in that room with that whole on the ceiling. I don't know what else to do.

Your Desired Resolution:

I want them to fix the whole and clean or repaint the walls and clean the air duct and reimburse me for the extra expenses that I made because of their lack of responsability they are taking a long time to fix this 3 months already.i want to cancel their tv service and they wanted to charge me early termination fee, are this people kidding me?

I will leave 0 stars but is not possible!

Al thry will do is crfdit future bills. Not now, They have stole money and this is not right. After reading about there CEO I can see where they get there operation back ground from. There is law suits because of breaking federal laws

As reported by Jim Roake on August 20, 2013 this exact same thing happened to me and many others (almost 500 just so far) that I have found on the BBB, and Consumer Affairs, and many other sites. I would like to join with you to get as many people that this has happened to together and bring a joint lawsuit against Dish to prevent them from continuing with this practice. I just can not understand how they are getting away with it but I think if we group together we can get results. I am going to set up a website page for all of the people whose names have been forged and then screwed financially by Dish so we can all get together to get an attorney to put them out of business for forgery and false advertising. Every time I see one of their commercials that states they don't increase the price like their competitors in the second year I feel sick. MY SIGNATURE WAS ALSO FORGED AND I CAN NOT GET DISH TO ADMIT IT AND RESOLVE IT. I CAN PROVE IT IS NOT MY SIGNATURE and will send and email to mailto:[email protected] as will with my proff. i am also going to the police and my congressman to try and get Dish stopped for continuing to get away with forgery. Please everyone who this has happened to go to the police, your congressman, state attorney so we can get them stopped and prosecuted. I have started looking for others this has happen to and I have found over 1000 people who have had their names forged on a contract that they never signed. We can win this if we all group together to go after them.

In year 2006, ATT made a bundled offer for telephone, dish network and Internet service. The contract specified that the dish network equipment is mine to keep. Now when I terminate the dish network service, Dish Network is demanding that I return the network receivers back to them. There are multiple issues with this.

1. The original contract is between me and ATT. The equipment is offered for free and is installed by ATT. So Dish Network has to work with ATT and not make demands on me.

2.When I asked the service rep, she refused to produce any proof of ownership for the receivers which Dish Network is claiming to be theirs.

3. I own two receivers. In Aug 2014 I terminated the use of one receiver. At the time the service rep agreed verbally that I own the equipment and hence I need not return the same. When I asked about the service rep about this conversation, the rep refused to provide audio recording of this call, claiming that such record does not exist.

4. Moreover dish network has been charging me an "equipment charge" for the receivers for so many years. Early in 2008-2009 timeframe, when I demanded explanation for this charge, stating that I own the equipment, so why should I pay lease charges, I was told that these are not lease charges.

So I suggest to CA State Attorney General to look into this issue and make this company pay a refund the so called "equipment charges" to many consumers like me , sending a strong message that such a predatory behaviour is not acceptable, and CA state attorney general watching out for us consumers against such practices.

Dish is a rip off and I wish I never did business with them.

I was offer for Dish $19.99 and then it change to more money on my bill. When I had my Dish activated the man with a note book told me to sign the contract but did not allow me to see what I had signed nor he gave me a copy of the contract that day, later I was billed over the amount I was told. When I called Dish about my contract the lady over the phone told me it will soon be over $40.00 for the next year and I could not do nothing about it.

Really...dropping Fox and my CBS carrier (WRAL) out of Raleigh NC. So this is what Dish calls customer service????? It pisses me off thinking about how much I pay them every month and they go and do this. Wake up Dish there are more providers out there than you. If you continue to remove channels then I want a refund and I'd better see a drop in my monthly bill. I've been trying for several hours to log into my account on Dish with not avail....nothing, can't log in. Guess Dish doesn't want all these angry customers emailing them. I will be changing to Direct TV....should have stayed with them anyway, guess I've learned my lesson the hard way.....DISH NETWORK YOU RAPE YOUR CUSTOMERS EVERY MONTH!!!!!

  • Dec 18, 2014

This is how they treat customers who've been with them for 18 years!

We cancelled our DISH service because my husband got transferred. We sent back all of the equipment. They charge my debit card for $34.00 and $179.43 for 'unreturned' equipment. I called their customer service dept.

GOT NO WHERE... Now I have to take this up with my bank.

I recently (October 2014) subscribed to the DISH Internet service for my home in Angel Fire, NM. The issue is that of access to their internet division AND billing of said service.

First, I must accpet responsability for not fully comprehending the "absurdity" of the terms of usage for the "Anytime Data" vs the "Off Peak Data" contract, i.e., the Anytime period is 8a.m. - 2a.m. (local) and the Off Peak is 2a.m. - 8a.m. (local)! However, that monkey is on my back as I should have more carefully read the contract before signing.

My primary complaint has to do with access to apropriate channels for filing a complaint AND the attending suspicion of fair treatment in billing as a result of the primary complaint. When I received the first email notice of 70/75% data usage before the first billing cycle was complete I accessed the DISH website to determine the hows and whys of the contract-which I should have done before signing.

This was when I learned that Off Peak meant 2a.m. - 8a.m.! Again, mea culpa, as I am an adult and did not properly protect my interests at the contract signing.

My next action was to arise at 3:15a.m. to sign on the internet to do a few minutes of surfing. Subsequently, when signed on the DISH website to check data usage, I found that my latest activity had resulted in additional usage of my "Anytime" allowance, but absolutely NO charge to the Off Peak allowance.

I next signed on to the DISH "chat" links-both the Customer Service and the Tech Service. The Tech service link never connected. The Customer Service link connected and after 20 - 25 minutes of back-n-forth with the DISH rep I was adviced that they could not help me, but that I needed to connect with the TECH Chat.

After blowing off this effort in the first billing period, I received yet anotherr data usage email during the 2nd billing period. Again, I arose to sign on the internet at 4:30a.m.+/- and did some more surfing. Again, no evidence of any data charges on the OFF Peak allowance, but, once again, there was an additional data usage charge for this period at, or about, 4a.m.

I immediately wrote them an email (using their onsite email format), which can be reviewed below. To my chagrin, after completing the email in accordance with their instructions, the email would not go through. Two (2) subsequent attempts to send the same email failed as well.

Am I being cheated on my usage? Is their service intended to deceive? Isd this service a deliberate bait-n-switch operation? I have no definitive answer on any of the preceding questions, BUT I can safely say,"BEWARE if you use this service!"

8255909329786

I am a new customer to your internet service. My question/concern has to do with the "anytime" versus "off period" billing. Last month, during my first billing period, I received a notice of usage indicating that I had used 70% to 75%(?) of my "anytime" service. As a result of this notice, I arose at 3:15 a.m. (Mountain Time) to sign on the system just to check for usage on the "off period" billing. There was no indication of usage for this sign on, however, I checked the "anytime" billing at this same time and found that this portion of service had been charged.

This month-my second billing period-I have received another notice of usage. Again, I signed on in the early hours (4:35 a.m. MT), and again found that no charge was made to the portion of my service!

I would like for someone to explain the following to me:

1. What constitutes the off period (2a.m. - 8a.m.), i.e., what time zone?

2. What must I do to utilize this portion of my service contract, AND ensure that my "anytime" portion is not charged?

I did not realize that the off period was at such a weird time or I would not have contracted for this service. However, that issue is on my shoulders for not carefully/fully reading the terms of the contract.

Thank you in advance for your timely response.

I switched to Dish Network in early July 2014. one month later my house flooded and I was forced to move. I put my account on pause for 2 months while we stayed with family. When I called to pause the service they said that, given my circumstances, they would give me my promotional rate when i returned. When I called to schedule the install at my new home, they jacked up my rate. The customer service people were like robots - not an ounce of compassion. I went ahead and agreed to do the install.

On October 2nd the tech came to my condo and immediately told me I could not get a signal in my location if the dish was on my deck But I could get a signal if I could put the dish on a post 10 feet out. I called my HOA to see if alternate locations were ever approved. They said probably not. The tech called customer service who informed me that they don't care if you move and can't get a signal at your new location you are still bound by the contract. I agreed to check further with my HOA. They were nice enough to let me know later that day that they would not approve an alternate location for the dish.

I called Dish back and told them to cancel my service. I was very upset about being charged early termination fees and argued with them to no avail. the rep told me I woul be charged $440 to my card on file. I wasn't worried about it because by coincidence, I lost that card while moving and had to cancel it earlier that day. My plan was to send them small checks every month to pay the termination fee.

I patiently waited for for the box to come for equipment. Nothing showed up. I got a couple emails saying they tried to charge my card and could not obtain authorization.

Today I received an email thanking me for my payment and showing they charged a card with the last 4 digits of my new card. I did not give them my new card and I have no idea how they got the card number! I called my bank immediately and they are as baffled as me. They told me they have no idea how Dish could have obtained the card number and that however they did it, it was not legal for them to charge a card without my permission. I disputed the charge and had to cancel the card.

I called Dish next and asked them what was going on. They claim they have no record of me canceling my account. When I told them I disputed the charge and would be taking legal action against them, they would not comment. I repeatedly asked them how they obtained the new card number and they would not comment. They canceled my account retroactively and insisted I will still be billed for the early termination fees.

I contacted DISH approximately 6 months ago when I was unable to work and they have given me a $10 hardship credit on my bill. I had filed for disability and willl not have a hearing until April, 2016 and have NO Income.

I was transferred the the president's office where he told me that he would give me a $10.00 credit on my Dish plan and the bill would only be $11.39 for 12 months and then I would owe $30.00 more to cancel and not have my credit card charged the $160.00 now. I said he could not do that, an unauthorized charge and he said he could. The contract amount was extended by a year when my son (unknowing by me) added services - so ADDED 1 year to my contract

Then he said I already gave you the credit so your good to go, well I am NOT.

Is Dish Network so desparete for cusumers they have to "LOCK you into a CONTRACT?"

I do not even have $11.39 - DO I have ANY rights here?

Disabiled and cheated!

I have been twice billed by Dish Network on my credit card for an "early termination fee" (in excess of $400!) for internet access service which was promised me as a trial enrollment. The internet service was not as advertised, and wholly inadequate. I canceled the service after using it, on a trial basis, for less than a week. Their equipment was disconnected, and returned to them in a timely manner. At first they attempted to bill me for the amount mentioned above, claiming I had not returned their equipment. When this was shown to be false, they changed their claim to "early termination fee". When I vehemently objected to this fraudulent and dishonest claim, they connected me to the "Office of the President"; where I was finally told the matter could be settled by paying a nominal small (less than $10) fee.

Two months later, they have again used my credit card number which they had on file (I had been their good customer, always paying my bills, in excess of 3 years) to re-submit this fraudulent, unreasonably-high, bill for a service which they did not, and could not perform.

Before I had the equipment and service installed, I was guaranteed by their sales department that this was strictly on a trial basis; and that I could have the service removed if it didn't perform to expectations. No mention was made of an early termination fee, or I'd have never considered trying the service.

My contract with Dish for the Satellite TV was commenced in Feb. of 2012. They started off playing unfair in early February of 2014 when they increased the rates (without any prior information) on my monthly billing from $80.43 to $87.43. I noticed this change in May and called them to inquire about this and the rep. changed it back to $80.43 with no apparent reason neither they bothered to return my additional money. Also, whenever there is a rain or a thunder storm, we lost all the channels transmission and it happened every time when there was a rain.

Last week I noticed that a number of channels have gone out (that was part of my channels line up package) due to contractual issues between DISH and TUNRER. I called DISH Customer Service on 10/22/14 for several times. Everytime I was put on hold and after being held up for almost 30 minutes, the line kept on dropping. Getting frustrated from their customer service, I also wrote them a letter that i want to terminate thier services and listed down all the reasons and requested not to apply termination charges since iam terminating the contract due to valid reasons. I again called them on 11/23 and told them about the poor service and the latest issue with the channels going out and told them that i want to terminate their service due to all above reasons. The moment, the Lady on the phone heard that i want to get the contract terminated, her attitude became rude and she said that i will still be charged with termination fee for the remaining period and its upto their descretion whether they remove or add any channels from the line up (if thats the case why the hell their sales people tell you about all this, why do they put allthese terms in fine print knowling exectly that no one will read or notice those terms) also the thing that i was not aware of that they will now charge me for the shipment of the Boxes at the rate of $17 / box that they send me to return the equipment. It never says anywhere on the terms that they will be charging us this amount.

I dont understand where do we have the laws that protects consumer rights??? Can someone make these fraudiliant companies like 'Dish Network' stop dictating their terms and playing with the innocent customers by deliberately hiding terms and charges that they are imposing on their customers.

I would like to seek a legal advice from law firms in order to stop this madness and one sided dictation against Dish and also its competition as they are also involved in the same practice to put all the terms / conditions highlighted and explained to the customers before entering into the contract. Its not about the unlawful fee that iam paying its about the fair play and ensure that no one else gets into their trap.

I recieved another notice same information, I was going to pay it off a day earlier and now the balance is $24.63 roughly. I confirmed in previous recorded conversations with Dish Customer Service off pay off amount and equipments charges. It has always been $180.00 tax & charges included and $17.00 for using prepaid UPS or FEDEX parcels. Now they are charging me with additional fees. This is why I discontinued my service.

After having the most expensive internet package that Dish provides for a time I started noticing that the bandwidth speed and responsivness were starting to become very slow and sluggish. After a while longer I noticed that the speeds became even more absurdly slow.

I then visted the corresponding Dish internet page to try to rectify the problem and found a list of solutions. These included such actions as "Check to make sure you haven't exceeded your data allowance" and "Check weather conditions and wait until weather clears" as well as "Unplug modem/router for a full 10 seconds" and "Empty temporary internet files". One other solution suggested was to check bandwidth speed by visiting a specific website.

After trying all the other solutions several times (including looking outside) I went to the speed test site, registered and started doing a bit of testing. Turns out that my speed which I checked over a two week period several times a day averaged out to under 1 Mbps or less than 10% of advertised bandwith speed of 10Mbps.

I then wrote them a very nasty email threatening to leave and start telling everyone I knew or who would listen that they were a bogus service. Lo and behold for the next two days my speed was faster than should have been possible at said speed limit. But sadly that too petered out and it went back to being even slower than before.

I kept testing the speed and all the while the site they suggested logged every result and built up an even slower speed average than before. Now mind you it also included the insanely fast few days as well.

So..... I went back to the page concerning slow internet and wrote an even nastier note to them promising to report them to my states Attorney General's Office (Missouri) and my Senator (Clare McCaskill) both of which have started ISP fraud investigations as it pertains to actual speeds as opposed to real world consumer speeds.

I then clicked on the box to chat with broadband tech support in an attempt to fix the problem. I was hesitant to speak with anyone after the fiasco's I had experienced with speaking to many different customer service and tech support employees in the past about the television aspect of service when I first signed up for both packages. I had gotten a completely different answer every time I spoke with someone.

The chat box for bandwith tech support finally filled out and after waiting 10 minutes to speak with somebody I was conncted with a woman who wanted to know how she could help me. I simply put "Slooooow internet." After a 30 second pause she informed me that she couldn't help me as braodband tech support doesn't have chat and that I should call a number and ask to be transferred to broadband. It was too late to speak with someone. Worst fears realized.

So here I sit filling this out under contract to pay $70 a month for a download speed that is only 7% of what it should be having just now tested again very late at night when demand should be at the lowest.

Dish will happily join partnerships with telephone companies (such as Frontier) to provide consumers with the convenience of bundling services. That sounds all well and good... until you have a family emergency and need to cancel services.

So, here's the run-down of our situation. We started a bundle package through Frontier back in Feb. 2014. In June 2014, we had a family emergency which caused us to relocate to another state. Seeing as how every bill we ever received for our bundle package came from Frontier, we contacted them about our situation and not only did they sympathize, they graciously waived our early termination fees.

With this in mind, we were never told that we had to contact Dish directly about getting the television services cancelled. It was our understanding (from the time services were installed to the day they were cancelled) that Frontier would take care of the termination and everything. The only thing we were told we had to do was return the receiver back in the supplied box that would be mailed out to us.

In September, we received a bill from Dish stating that our services were still on. My husband called and was given the run-around by an account specialist. Later in the evening, my husband contacted Dish again about the bill and explained our situation to a manager, another account specialist, and yet another manager.

What we received from them was their sympathy, and a drawn out explanation of how their partnership with Frontier and other companies are not contracted, but the agreements made with consumers is contracted. Therefore, our charges are valid because my husband signed a contract by a "Dish representitive" (even though the man who installed the services represented himself as a Frontier worker, not Dish, and even he didn't explain any of this to us!).

Unfortunately, we're stuck with a $340 early termination fee which I paid on a credit card, because Dish and Frontier have absolutely no communication about what is what when you begin services with them. I found it very clever on the manager's part to be as slick as he was to explain the legalities of how we're under contract, but anyone they're in partnership isn't. As far as Dish is concerned, it doesn't matter what Frontier said or didn't say. You would think that Dish would hold their partners accountable, but no. All they care about is making sure they stick it to the customers regardless of how dire their situations are.

I happen to know many more horror stories about Dish that I am not at liberty to discuss due to the confidentiality I must keep because of my employement. However, with that information combined with my own experience, I will NEVER again do business with Dish regardless of how sweet a deal sounds.

Do your research before signing anything with these companies that offer bundled services!

I terminated my account (in good standing) with Dish Network prior to the recent billing period beginning. A final ammount due was calculated and paid in full at the time of cancellation and the account was closed (I thought) and our relationship over. At the time I cancelled service, my "contract" period was ended and I was not under any contract obligation with Dish.

Dish Network drafted additional funds from my checking account several days AFTER the date of termination. This was the ammount of the standard draft for services that was in effect PRIOR to my closing.

A call to dish resulted in the draft being reversed with no argumant and admission from Dish that the funds should not have been drafted. The draft to my account and apparently occurred due to poor design of their internal accounting and data systems- A case of account services not communicating with billing.

My irritation is that Dish feels that it is perfectly OK to illegally take funds from my checking account and then HOLD THE FUNDS for a minimum of 7 days after I called them on it before they refund my account. I can tolerate a billing mistake but it was obvious from my conversation with their CSR and level 2 billing CSR that this issue is ongoing and happens all the time. The best they could do was apologize offer to transfer me to the "office of the president" of Dish to rehash my issue.

I find this to be unacceptable, rude and an unfair practice. I believe this to be a breach of contract and potentially a criminal accessing of my bank account without my authorization. My account was drafted without my permission (or my control) and Dish has the use of my money while I do not.

How about offering me something to compensate for your mistake Dish? Something more than empty words and more wasting of my time? This situation will be remembered when I next seek to obtain TV services.

Dish Network hire liars. My bill is due on the 22 and I called on the 11 of the month to have an extension applied to my account. The customer service rep stated he got me taken care of and not to worry. So on the 23 my service was disconnected so when I called Dish the forst rep stated I see where you called on the 11 and stated she could not help me so I asked for the supervisor so Laura a supervisor comes on and states I dont see where you called ( mind you the frst rep stated I see where you called on the 11). I stated to pulll evey phone record from where i called in the last two month and Laura stated we can not do that . Bottm line they are liars and they made restore fees off me when they clearly knew i called in for an extension Dish is a rip-off.

I was not allowed to adjust my future bill.

I have been a loyal non contract member of Dish for quite a long time now. I chose to not be under a contract so in case things got tough I would be able to work things out financially.

Unfortunately Dish network would rather have me cancel my account, rather then offer me the option to lower my bill by deducting unnecessary channels like "Showtime" for this specific "FUTURE" billing cycle. I felt like I was trapped. I just bought all of their equipment outright, so I would not have to rent theirs. Now they are saying sorry you have to cancel or pay what you paid last month.

I can't imagine how many people this is happening too.

On May 17,2014, I called DISH to stop their service as of May 20,2014. Within 90 seconds, I was still on the phone with them, the signal was shut off! I told them to please turn it back on as I stated that it was to be on until the 20th. They immediately informed me that I had to pay $128.73 right then if I wanted it turned back on because I disconnected the service! $5.00 of the charge was for making a payment over the phone! They stated that it would be back on within 30 or 45 minutes. I told them that they shut it off in 90 seconds, they could turn it back on in 90 seconds! Since that time, I have been trying to get the ending statement showing the penalty for the early termination fee as my new provider will reimburse me. Every person I have spoken to, including Ivy with their account loyalty department has given a different time frame. Ivy said that with the credit (?) on my account and minus the penalty, all I owed was $.63. I said I would pay that right now and that would have the account at a zero balance. I was told yes and asked if I was going to be charged another $5.00 fee for a payment over the phone. She stated that they don't charge for payments over the phone, Really? I requested a statement showing all of these transactions and have been told: 5-15 minutes, 24 hours, 72 hours and 30 days! I received an email on the May 26th of a statement that shows no charge at all for the penalty. At the end of the email was name Virigina Enriquez at 303-942-8605 Ext. 79572 between 8:30 and 7:30 to call if I needed further information. I attempted to call this number and the recording stated the number was no longer in service!!! Called "customer service", they didn't have a clue what the number was for and I would have to wait the 30 days because most people want to reinstate the service.

I am now at a total loss as to what is true and what is not. I can no longer access my account online because my service is disconnected.

Dish Network Corporation engages in illegal bait and switch deceptive business practices, as well as delays canceling services for an additional billing period after these practices are brought to Dish Network Corporation’s attention and cancellation is requested, as well as extorts additional payment from their customers specifically for not wanting to do business with a company who practices these illegal and unethical business practices.

On July 12, 2013, we spoke with a Dish salesperson who sold us satellite television service for $20 a month for one year, and then $54 a month onward, with a 24 month contract. Understanding our service is “America's Top 120” that may ordinarily be billed at $29.99 per month, our salesperson promised us the price of $20. When we spoke to this salesperson we were informed at the beginning of our call that it was being recorded, so Dish has a recording of this verbal contract. As we were reviewing our various utility bills in October of this year (we had just moved into our new home in July and have been too busy with work and settling in since then to look carefully at this bill), we noticed Dish has been charging us $29.99 per month since July 12th, instead of the $20 per month fee that was promised to us by Dish when we purchased this service.

On October 23rd, we called Laura Sanchez, Office of the President, Dish Network Corporation, (888) 826-8137 x 53342, who told us our fee would be $29.99 per month, “regardless” of what their salesperson told us. Ms. Sanchez did not offer to look into our claim in any way, including simply and reasonably contacting their salesperson to ask him the price he gave us. Ms. Sanchez also refused to provide us with the name of the Dish salesperson we spoke with on July 12th. It was only after we told Ms. Sanchez that we would make a formal complaint to the appropriate regulatory agencies if we were not charged the fee we were promised on July 12th, that Ms. Sanchez said she would investigate the matter and call us back in 7 - 10 business days. However, Ms Sanchez never called us back and most likely did not investigate this problem further.

Furthermore, Dish Network Corporation charged us for an additional billing period before they canceled our service. On November 27th, we left a voice mail with Laura Sanchez canceling our Dish service effective November 27th, “specifically” because of Dish Network Corporation’s bait and switch tactics, and Laura Sanchez’s refusal to look into this problem. Laura Sanchez’s voice mail indicates she returns customer calls within 72 hours, but she never returned our voice mail, and Dish did not cancel our service until December 30th.

On December 3rd we mailed Charles Ergen, President, Dish Network Corporation, a return-receipt letter documenting the above information, and reiterating our cancelation of service, effective November 27th, to which we received no response.

On December 20th, we left a second voice-mail with Laura Sanchez asking her to call us back by December 24th to resolve this problem, otherwise we would go to the local Prosecuting Attorney’s office. Laura Sanchez ignored this voice-mail as well. That was the forth (4th) time we tried to resolve this problem directly with Dish Network Corporation, at the highest level, the President’s Office, with not even a single response.

On December 26th, we filed a formal charge of bait and switch deceptive business practices against Dish Network with the local Prosecuting Attorney’s office.

It was not until December 31st, over two months since we brought this problem to Dish’s attention that we received an email from Dylan McMichael, Dish representative. When we spoke with Dylan, his response was that not only were we supposedly mistaken about our billing, but also that we would be charged a “cancellation fee” for canceling our service. When I asked Dylan for a copy of the voice recording of the conversation between us and the Dish salesperson who sold us their service, Dylan told me we would have to get a court order to hear it.

We took written notes during our July 12th phone conversation with Dish’s salesperson and we are certain we were promised a $20 monthly fee and that we are victims of illegal bait and switch deceptive business practices.

The result of not wanting to continue service with Dish Network Corporation specifically due to their illegal bait and switch business practices, and that ignores their customers when those practices are brought to their attention, and that ignores their request to cancel service for a full billing period in order to get an additional month’s revenue, is that we will now be charged an additional cancellation fee and will be extorted with having our bill sent to a collection agency, ruining our perfect credit history, if we do not pay it.

It is unfortunate we chose to conduct business with such a corrupt and non-responsive organization. Do not make the same mistake we did.

Tried to transfer Dish account to ex-wife. Before Ex talks to them, 7 days later, Dish sent me a notice informing me that my equipment had been deactivated. Another email again the next day about the return package sent to me. They then cancelled the account you would conclude... Well. not. They kept billing me and the explanation is that they only deactivated one of the receivers. Really?
