Downtown Plumbing & Heating Reviews

  • Jun 17, 2015

I was grossly overcharged and all work on venting hot water heaters was useless and had to be redone.

Monday, June 8th called Downtown Plumbing at 11:30AM at the office number 718-858-7070. A woman took my number and said the plumber would get back to me shortly.

Got a call from 917-600-7956. Although he said he'd be right over he actually arrived over an hour later.

A new portable dishwasher (as no counter)was delivered that morning and I wanted installed directly under the sink (like a dishwasher that fits under a counter). The delivery guys from PC Richards said to get a plumber and described what needed to be done.

National Grid came late morning June 8th to install new gas meters for their 'n-scan' system (avoiding access to the basement to read the meters). After installing the new meters Natioinal Grid shut off the gas to the 2 hot water heaters which were not venting properly and kicking back carbon monoxide.

The 'plumber' finally arrived in a Downtown Plumbing van and didn't seem to understand the situation about the dishwasher. National Grid was still there and described the venting problem with the hot water heaters. He called his boss, Dominic Aiello, who then finally arrived in yet another hour around 2:30PM.

Dominic told his 'plumber' what needed to be done with the stove pipes to vent the hot water heaters and looked at the dishwasher quickly and sent him off for supplies and disappeared.

The 'plumber' returned with some minimal supplies around 5:30PM and messed around in the basement with the stove pipe and went up to look at the dishwasher and didn't do anything up there. He then went to his van 'to look for something' and spent an hour down there. Dominic returned around 7:30PM and the plumbing finally begins! He reworked the stuff in the basement and went up with the 'plumber' to install the dishwasher and they finished about 10:40PM.

I was charged $600 for the dishwasher installation. (PC Richards installs under the counter dishwashers for $175) and $1150 for the venting.

National Grid came late morning on June 9 and refused to turn the gas on as the hot water heaters were not venting properly.

Allied Chimney came the morning of June 9th and was there when National Grid arrived. Both National Grid and Allied Chimney found the new stovepipe problematic. Wrong diameter, couplings wrong and the pitch was wrong. Allied Chimney was able to fix the venting (although tried to get the correct stovepipe delivered) by reworking it and changing the pitch.

National Grid returned on Wednesday afternoon, June 10th, and turned the gas back on.

Not only was I grossly overcharged but also the work was sorely deficient (with the exception of the dishwasher installation which shouldn't cost $600).

The lackey's main function was to stall, tying me up so it was too late to hire another plumber.
