IRS-SS4-form.com makes you think that you are on the IRS site to get an EIN number and then asks to put in a credit card for $147.00 fee. You are not on the IRS form for an SS4. IRS does NOT charge you anything. Make sure the site ends with .GOV NOT .COM.
This is really awful; I started a booster club for a local high school sports team and collected donations from folks all hoping to help out the kids. I was trying to do the right thing and get a tax ID to make sure that the accounts were legit, and the money is carefully and thoughtfully accounted for. This company took $197 of those donations in this scam.
I got sucked into it when I Googled EIN/Tax ID. It really seems to be a legit IRS page at first glance, but of course it is not.
