I spoke with a man named Paul Halligan back on July 3rd 2014. He talked about how he could consolidate my student loans and my payments would only be $147 per month and that I would pay about $25,000 of my $65,000 student loan balance. I was very skeptical and almost backed out several times because I could never get in touch with them and they kept making promises that they didn't keep.

I ended up signing up with them and paid them $595 to consolidate my loan. I had several issues through the process and it was very hard to get someone on the phone to talk about it. They hung up on me several times and I had to keep calling back. When I finally got someone, they would continue to reassure me that I was not being screwed and that they had my best interest.

After paying the $595 and then 2 months of their $29 "service" fee, I cancelled with them. I spoke with my loan provider and they explained that there is nothing that this company can do that I can't do myself so I am basically paying for nothing. FSLA is a scam and I urge anyone who has contacted them or even thought about it to STOP NOW!!! Check with your current provider before trying to do anything else!!!

I basically paid them to complete paperwork that I could do on my own!! It's sad that there are companies like this that take advantage of students that are just trying to better themselves. They prey on vulnerable people who think that this is their only option but I assure you that you have much cheaper options....STAY AWAY!!!

This place is a rip-off. Their employees with lie to you about specific programs, and tell you that you qualify for them even if you do not. These are not trained professionals and are there just to take your money.

The provide a service that is completely free to get, but will charge you a $29.00 fee every month, which they "forget" to mention at the time of signing up.

All of the employees seemed very nice and helpful, however, if you need to speak to a "manager" they are completely rude and will try to argue with you. Manager Jeff basically treated me like I was incompetent.

They promised me a specific program, which I did not qualify for in the end. Even though their policy is to refund if this is the case. At the end after I was treated very rudely, I received no refund. Jeff claimed that he "gives out refunds everyday", interesting enough...(I wonder why).

This company also claims before every phone call they record each conversation, however, when confronted about this information and I asked them to replay conversations of past, Jeff claimed "they had their phone systems changed."

This place is a joke and I'm glad I do not have to pay them to do nothing anymore.

FSLS contacted me and stated they were an Obama approved loan forgiveness/reduction program that could decrease my student loans by $100,000. They did the math with me over the phone. They were nice and professional. I am not an idiot, but now I feel like one. They stated to process the case, they would need 10% of my student loan total. I paid them around $400 a month for four months. I don't make a lot of money but this seemed worth it in the end. I signed a contract with them and they took my money and I never heard back from them. Nothing was accomplished with my loans and I'm out $1600.

I am no longer affiliated with this company, but they have taken a $29.00 monthly maintenance fee out of my checking account.

They are essentially stealing from me. I asked that my personal banking information be deleted, and they have not done so. They owe me $87.00 so far. Since they have taken money without permission they have caused my bank account to be short for other checks which have cause insufficient funds. I am being charged for the insufficient charges as well, and I feel that they owe me restitution!

In July 2014 I responded to an email regarding student loan relief. The company's name is Federal Student Loan Alliance, I thought it would be safe since President Obama had resently signed the bill. I was connected with Paul Halligan, Senior Loan Manager, who explained to me how the program runs and for me to get the application process going there will be an enrollment fee of $450.00. After making 3 installment of $165.00.

Maribell Torres, Student Loan Lead Processor, start the process and Nicole Kendall was part of the processing/customer service department. I submitted my pay stub and any other information they needed. During this time they put my loan in forbearance and told me not to pay on anything until I hear from them.

Time passed and none of my calls where answered. When I finally got thru, Maribell was no longer employed and no body knew what was going on. I had submitted my information 3 times now and my loan was still in forbearance. Even thought I told them I was getting emails saying I was past due.

I tried to contact the company this week and i get a message stating " the number I dialed is no longer in service. My credit score dropped, I lost out on a much needed $450.00. I have never been late on any payments.

This company ripped my off and now I am trying to get back my good credit standing I worked so hard for.

I have left several messages asking them to return my calls, and sent emails inquiring about the status of my account for several weeks now, and no one has returned my calls. I am starting to think this company has shut down???? Anyone have any updates on the status of this company, they are still taking a maintenance fee from my account and have been waiting several months now to begin making my reduced loan payments. Gonna report them to the BBB and put a stop on further payments if I don't hear from them by next week.

My wife chose to work with FSLA to help with her student loans. After paying a $1200 up front fee an $29 month for nearly a year nothing has been settled. We have paperwork stating that we get 100% refund if not satusfied.

FSLA does not return phone calls or e-mails. We stayed persistant and finally spoke with several people. Each time we speak with someone, they state that the previous person we spoke to no longer works there.

The so-called owner came on the phone and said we may be entitled to partial refund. He didn't know the anything about the contracts that was signed so I doubt he is the owner.

After continuing to listen and speak with several people, we realized that this company is a fraud and they just took our money.

We are trying to figure out our next step in filing charges against this company. Hopefully someone could suggest what we should do next.

2 years ago i received my first student loan bill of $780. I am a teacher, so naturally i freaked out and looked for help. Federal loans didn't help, just wanted to defer my loan. So, i found federal student loan alliance. I paid $550 for them to do the work of consolidating my loans and file the papers for the programs i qualified for. For the first year all was good. Then, i had to re certify my income based plan. I tried to contact kati and got a return email, contacted paul who told me to send him the paperwork, they would do it. Long story short they didn't. Heck, they didn't even have me in the public service loan forgiveness program they told me i was enrolled in the previous year. I called and emailed a loan officer by the name of cindy. I did speak with her twice. When i got a new bill that was 4 times what i was paying i tried to contact cindy again. Cindy stopped returning my calls or emails. All the while they were still wanting my $25 per month. I never received a return call or email, had to change my pin number and cancel my credit card. Federal student loan alliance did not do their job. I was on the phone with the student loan people for a couple of hours, had to fill out and file the paperwork myself, but got it working, just threw away about $800 with this joke of a company. Any reputable company would put customer first and at least return the calls of a concerned client. They didn't. Maybe they work for some but pretty much stole from me. I have tried to speak to someone about getting money refunded. They don't answer their phones. Good luck if you use them. Hope what happened to me doesn't happen to you.

BB rated them an F

Please look at the local BB report. They are rated an F for a good reason. They ripped me and several others who are struggling to make their loan payments. It's terrible that we go to school to better our lives, have trouble paying back our loans and then have a company like this take advantage of us.

This company totally lied. Kati never returned my calls when I confronted them about their deceptive practices. They said I pay them $50 a month for 10 years and my student loans will be "forgiven." Not true. Now having trouble getting my money back.

I joined Federal Student Loan Alliance program in November 2012 to help me work with the Department of Education to deferred my student loan payments,I was desperate because I had been laid off and I couln't in any way to start repaying my loans, my payment were set at $870.00 a month; I borrowed the money and I paid themm what they told me I needed to pay to join their program and that hey worked together with the Department of Education and that they would help me in any way possible to deferred my payments. I did all l the paperwork requested and fax everything and signed the papers to start with the program. They told me that the process would take about 3 to 4 months for DOE to approve it. I received notification from DOE that my deferment was approved from june 2013 to june 2014. I assumed that was it until June this year.

The next time I heard from FSLA was in January 2013 when they contacted me to tell me I owed them $175.00 for5 months maintenance fees I hadn't pay, this was newsto me and that is when I was told about the $25.00 maintenance fees,so I made the agreement with an individual named Jeff, that I would pay half and half ,$75.00 in February 15, 2013 and the other $75.00 in March 15, 2013; the next thing I know is they took $200.00 out of my account on DFebruary 15. I immediately call Jeff and I told him that was not the agreement we had so he said he was sorry and that ut was a mistake and hey would refund my account $125.00,which they did. Then after that they continue taking rhe $25.00 up until June 17 this year. Then in May this year i received notifications from Federal Loan Servicing that it was time for my annual review to see if I qualify for another payment option if I still could not afford the student loan payments. I though they were either the same company or they were linked together. so I gathered my information and responded to the email by filling out the form and applying for the Income Based Repayment plan.

I waited and waited and no response, so I decided to call them at the number they provided, which it was different from the one I had and that is when I found out that Federal Loan Servicing is the company working thru the Dept of Education with my student loan deferrement plan and that they worked with the DOE for this type of loans at no charge, and that they don't have anything to do or know who Federal Student Loan Alliance is and that I shouldn't be paying them any money when they are not the ones handling my student loans at all. Up until today I have paid these people $1,250.00 and now when I'm trying to contact them it is totally impossible to get an answer, they have a recording saying that all their agent s are busy and to leave a message and they will contact me as soon as they can. I checked them out and theyare not even registered with the BBB. So please,to other consumers, do not fall for this company, they are just another scam and just fill you with a bunch of lies just to get your money. I already reported them to the BBB as well. Do Not be another Victim!!

Federal Student Loan Alliance Helped Me

I did not have a negative experience, in fact I found them extremely helpful with my loans. I was a couple months behind on my payments and they were able to not only get me caught up with that, but also brought my payment from $347/month down to $49/month. It took around 3 months to complete, but during that time I did not make any payments which was very helpful in my situation. I know everyone has different experiences, but I definitely would recomment Federal Student Loan Alliance to friends and family based on the help I was given. :)
