Green Dot Corporation Reviews

  • Jun 30, 2015

On 6/27/15 I spoke with several customer service reps with Green Dot. Of course each and everyone of them had a different answer for my same question.

I had a Green Dot card for the last 2 years as of 5/15 (my expiration date). I had $175 transfered from my Paypal account (as usual).

I call and complained (not filed) against a gym membership. They told me to file a formal complaint online thru grendot.com. I never did. Green Dot automatically put a stop to my card. Knowing that my card expires on 6/30/2015. The "supervisor" Erica, employee #3240 (Pasadena, CA corporate office) told me to find a friend or a relative that has a debit card and she will transfer my funds to their card (because Green Dot) is the only card i have. So, I did so. I called back with my friend on 3-way. Of course their story changed again. They then told me that they would have to have a Green Dot card for them to do so. In my 45 minute conversation with Erica. That was never ever mentioned. Now, they are telling me to wait 2 weeks for my new card to arrive and the money will be on it. I told her that i have 2 kids to feed and they can't wait 2 weeks to eat. She said that they can not reverse the action of shutting my card down. They never had permission to do so and i never filed a formal complaint. In the end. The customer always gets screwed. I will never do business with these crooks again. Erica, if you're reading this or any other rep I spoke to...go jump off of a cliff!

Green Dot Corporation highjacked my money and won't give it back. They've done this before.

On May 6, 2015 my payment of my phone bill could not be processed. I was told AT&T received an unusual code as the reason, that the payment was not declined for NSF, but he did not know what the code did mean and suggested I call the bank. The "bank" is the issuer of the WalMart Money Cards, which is what I have been using because there is no bank in my town. So I called Customer Svc. at 877-937-4098 and was advised that the "bank" put a stop on my card for "suspicious activity"; the old card was canceled and they said I'd receive a new card in about two weeks, and told me to look on line for the details, but first I had to call all the companies I auto-pay bills.

When I could get online I saw four (4) unauthorized charges totaling about $93 that were made the day before while I was running errands; they were made between my purchase at a boutique and my purchase at WalMart...while I was driving. The merchants paid were Straight Talk, American Roaming and two payment to GoogleCrowdstar, all made on May 5th. I called Green Dot back to confirm those were not my payments and was told to call the merchants to try to get the money from them, first. I don't know WHY they do that...unless an account was established in my name, they won't give me any information readily. I know this because of what took place last time this happened, and I'll get to the in a minute after I set forth this go-arounds chain of events.

I spent the rest of the 6th dealing with merchants and related things because I want/need to find out who keeps doing this and prove it to stop it. The first merchant was Straight Talk, $47.57 for telephone service. They would not give me the phone # my account paid for. Since it was a fraudulent payment that I did not make, on an account I don't own, I get nothing. I explained that I need to prove who's doing this, and after about 20 minutes and 12 different approaches, I finally told her if my bank paid the bill, it MUST be "my" account, and asked if they have a service in my name. She looked, and they did. I got a wild notion and threw out two other names, and lo and behold, Straight Talk had accounts under both of those names, too. I was onto something I'l explain shortly. In the end, Straight Talk said they would pay the bank back the money to put back on my account as soon as the bank called them, but they cannot return the money directly.

The second merchant is American Roaming Network. This company's a giant front for fraud; the toll free number Green Dot gave me does not exist...I'd dial it, and before even ringing, every call just got "dropped"; so I googled ARN and found another number. I called it, someone picked up the phone but said nothing. I kept saying, "Hello? Hello?", and I heard someone sniff twice, so someone did anser the phone, but they would not talk. I finally hung up, and spent the next hour researching this company, which operates in southern FLA and the Caribbean, and by the nature of what services it provides, I feel it's connected to the person with the Straight Talk accounts, but more on that later.

The third merchant has no phone number. I had to get creative. I did some investigatig and found a Facebook account open under a fake name (I'm sure it's fake: JPat James), with no picture, no info, no nothing except under "Likes>Games", and sure enough: JPat plays Google Crowdstar.

So on May 7th I called Green Dot back to report what I learned from the merchants, told them the same woman who had set up an account in my name that we discovered in February had stolen my identity and waw at it again. I thanked them for stopping the card because those charges were not made by me, and I asked how they knew to place the stop. I did not get a straight answer, so I reitterated that Straight Talk would give them the money as soon as Green Dot called Straight Talk. They said before they could answer that they had to open a dispute and research the charges, and told me to email a written dispute to [email protected] that included my name, phone #, card #, and the date, name of merchant, and amount of the disputed transactions. I did this right away because my card had been canceled before I knew it was fraudulently used and I hadn't pulled cash out of the ATM to live on before calling to cancel, so time was of the essence...I only had $40. Why Green Dot required me to send a letter listing the transaction information on the charges the IT brought to MY attention. And I should have been given an opportunity to pull cash out before they canceled the card.

About May 18th I got a voicemail from Green Dot (WalMart money card) saying they still needed a transaction dispute letter, and that I should put a reference number such and such on the letter; however, the woman had a heavy either eastern or Filipino-type accent and I could not understand all the numbers. Also the message said send the letter to [email protected]. Please note that's greendotCORP.com, where the first email address I was given was just @greendot.com. So I forwarded the first letter I'd sent to this new email address. Several days later a new urgency arose: I'd spent the $40, had no money on the new card after paying bills and buying groceries, etc., I ran out of toilet paper, and it payday was over a week away. I needed that money back immediately! So I called them back.

This time, they did not say whether they had or had not received the dispute letter I'd emailed; rather, they man told me that they needed it in writing. I told him it was in writing, sent two weeks earlier. He said they needed a letter with my signature on it. There was some disagreement about this, as nonsense, but I needed TP, so I went into the office, got paper and pen, and with him on the line I rewrote everything on paper and signed it. As I was writing it all out, he reminded me 3 or 4 times, "remember to sign it", "okay, no sign it", "did you remember to sign it?". I was getting upset but had done what he wanted, and asked him where I should send the letter. He said, "Good, now email it to [email protected]. I asked him how the heck I was to email a piece of paper? I needed an address or fax number but he would not provide one.

Over the next half hour I grew evermore impatient as he came up with numerous ways to get my signature to him by email. "Scan the letter"...like I have a scanner at home. I explained that I'm not a business, I don't have a scanner, and I live 50 miles from the nearest town; and there was no way I was driving a hundred miles RT to scan a letter so he could have my signature. He then suggested I take a picture of it with my phone and email that. I tried it, but I can't email from my phone because I have to get rid of the old email address because that was part of how my account got accessed to begin with and it's the email attached to my phone, and the stupid phone won't allow me to update it. I was getting ready to try again when the phone beeped low battery. I'd been on the phone with this guy for way over an hour already. So now I was very upset.

I plugged the phone in, no charge. As I walked to the next room to try another charger I told the guy his request was not only unreasonable and physically impossible, but it did not sound legitimately necessary. "If you required a signed letter, why didn't the representative tell me that back on May 6th? Or on May 7th? This new hoop for me to jump through is ridiculous, unnecessary and I'm fairly sure illegal (bla bla bla)". I plugged the phone into the other charger; nothing. That's when I realized the power was out...gone, and I needed to fix that. I live off the grid and generate my own power. I explained this to the guy but he kept yapping. At this point, I had walked down to the inverter to see what was up and there was a problem. I needed to end the call, but the guy would not stop! I finally had to raise my voice and tell him, "My phone's about to die, and I have no power; without power I have no internet and my phone's going to die; I'm my own power company, so I have to go fix this problem RIGHT NOW, if I can. He said he would call me back. I had to explain again that my phone would be dead long before he could call back, an I neeed to go. It was like talking to a brick wall with a recorded message playing inside it...he did not hear me so I spoke even louder "Look, I've done everything you asked. You confirmed you got the first letter I emailed (after quite some time, he had), if you really needed a signed letter, you would have asked for weeks ago; you've never said you needed my signature when this happened before, either; I think you're just stalling and holding my money from me because if you take the $60 you owe me, times 100,000 customers, and you withhold it from me and all your other customers for a week or two weeks, all that money collecting interest in your account, that's incentive to not reutrn my money promptly; I'M OUT OF TP; I NEED MY MONEY NOW! Just put the money back on my card! I have to go...NOW! (bla bla bla). When I stopped for air he offered, again, to call me back. Five minutes later, phone beeping, me exasperated, I had no choice but to hang up and nothing was resolved. And I was still out of TP.

Since that little row I have called them three times. Nothing gets resolved. One woman would not let me speak to a supervisor or any other employee, she just kept repeating, like a recording, "I'm sorry Miss Compton, I cannot do that. I'm sorry Ms. Compton, I cannot do that....". Another time, the pre-recorded message with the prompts you have to wade through to get to a person changed after the system recognized my card number and it would not give me to a person. The recording said three times that I would be receiving a letter in 7-10 business day, and the agent have no additional information, then "Goodbye...click". It sounde like the recording "hung up". I was livid. But as I did go to hang up myself, I heard Muzak come on. It was a trick. I had to hold a good half hour before a person answered. Two people later and I was told what the recording said, but I asked why no refund from StraightTalk? I told her I'd told them twice before that Straight Talk said they would refund the money to the bank as soon as the bank called them, so why have they not called Straight Talk? She would not answer. I told her it's been nearly a whole month since they blocked my card, and this was totally unacceptable. I am STILL OUT OF T.P.!!!!

Finally, having had more than enough, I asked for the address for the agent for service of process. The did not understand. She kept giving me the address where they were at, and I could not make her understand what that meant. I gave up and got their address and will find the agent for service of legal process's address later. I was looking for it when I found this site. I won't get my money, I'm fairly certain, just like last time. Multiply me times a million of their depositors, and as I said, that's a lot of extra interest and profit for Green Dot if they wrongfully withhold peoples' money for ten, fifeen, twenty days...and then keep half or 2/3 of it in the end.

Now, let me connect this event with the last time something like this happened, and you can see why I'm so angry despite the actual dollar amounts being relatively small. Small change, huge life disruption! This "event" with Green Dot was foreshadowed about a month earlier, on April Fool's Day (which is why I remember it). I noticed my system had been hacked into (phone and computer, almost certainly through my WIFI router). Sadly, I've been through this twice before, once about a year ago, again in January, and now. I could see the hacker's bizarre "foot prints" so I called the police because after the last two incidents, I was beginning to recognize "patterns" of unusual "quirks" in both my phone and the laptop that were consistent with the prior to incidents, so I knew what was going on, but I had disconnected the WIFI router and changed email addresses, passwords, everything I could think of, so I did not expect her to be able to get my new billing information this time. Please, bear with the seemingly unrelated story of the hacker, because if it were not for the hacker I would not have had to dispute transactions 3 times and get 3 new cards and get ripped off by Green Dot Corporation.

The woman I suspected of hacking into my system last year "just happened" to have been parked on the road in front of my house the day before the quirky activity began; when I walked outside and got in the car to pull out and drive to the store, having seen me going to the car, the hacker (a woman named Jude who I met when someone brought her by my house about a year ago to ask if I would sell her my extra generator because hers broke...I know her, but I don't KNOW her). She got out of her car, walked up my driveway "to say Hi" (out of the blue, after not seeing her for maybe 8 months), with a brand new (giant) Samsung cell phone in hand. She said she came be to see if I still had a spare generator she could buy (right), which I didn't. Then she asked how our mutual acquaintance was and I said I hadn't seen him for a while. She began to pry, like she was investigating something, at which point I gathered she may be using the phone as a voice recorder so I said very little. She was leaning a little in my car - resting her elbows on the door where the window was down, very casually, like she was trying to keep the sun out of her eyes. She then asked me if I could tell him, whenever I next saw him, that -- let me write this like she said it: "When you see him, will you tell him that somehow AT&T got our phone numbers crossed?" [me] "Crossed? You mean, like old-fashioned party lines? or..." [Jude] "I don't know. But the police came by my house the other day and showed me (and here I don't remember if she said they showed her records or an actual phone) and my calls were on his phone, and his were on my phone! I thought [our friend] should know, you know; I wouldn't want him freaking out like last year!"

Long story short, I thing that's when she "kyped" my information. What I've learned is that there is a way for a computer savvy person to collect data from another's cell phone using their own cell phone doing something Smart People call "bootstrapping" using a feature on cell phones called NFC.

Allow Wikipedia to explain:

NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATION DEVICES:

"NFC and Bluetooth are both short-range communication technologies that are integrated into mobile phones. Smartphones equipped with NFC can be paired with NFC Tags or stickers which can be programmed by NFC apps to automate tasks; that is, to allow for a change of phone settings, a text to be created and sent, an app to be launched, or any number of commands to be executed, limited only by the NFC app and other apps on the smartphone. These applications are perhaps the most practical current uses for NFC since it does not rely on a company to provide service [EMPHASIS ADDED] but can be utilized immediately by anyone anywhere with an NFC-equipped smartphone and an NFC tag. NFC sets up more quickly than standard Bluetooth; a connection between NFC devices is automatically established in less than a tenth of a second. With a maximum working distance of no more than 20 cm [my note here, 20 cm is about the width of my laptop's screen]. NFC apps can allow for a change of phone settings, a text to be created and sent, an app to be launched, or any number of commands to be executed, limited only by the NFC app and other apps on the smartphone. NFC devices can be used in contactless payment systems, similar to those currently used in credit cards and electronic ticketsmartcards, and allow mobile payment to replace or supplement these systems. Microsoft provides the "Wallet hub" in Windows Phone 8 for NFC payment, and can integrate multiple NFC payment services within a single application.

Bootstrapping other connections[edit]

In general parlance, bootstrapping usually refers to the starting of a self-sustaining process that is supposed to proceed without external input. In computer technology the term (usually shortened to booting) usually refers to the process of loading the basic software into the memory of a computer after power-on or general reset, especially the operating system which will then take care of loading other software as needed.

NFC offers a low-speed connection with extremely simple setup, and can be used to bootstrap more capable wireless connections. Nokia, Samsung, BlackBerry and Sony have used NFC technology to pair Bluetooth headsets, media players, and speakers with one tap in its NFC-enabled devices. The same principle can be applied to the configuration of Wi-Fi networks. Samsung Galaxy devices have a feature named S-Beam—an extension of Android Beam that uses NFC (to share MAC Address and IP addresses) and then uses Wi-Fi Direct to share files and documents."

___________

So if she got her phone within 20 cm of mine for 1/10th of one second at any time when she was gabbing, she could have "connected" our phones and essentially "snatched" the IP & MAC address for the phone, router and laptop, my WIFI configurations, as well as data and files to send text messages, etc. from other phones EVEN WHEN THEY'RE OFF, etc., and essentially use that to set up other devices as servers. Wikipedia's explanation of NFC equipped devices certainly explains how she was able pay her bills from my bank account, since my bill payment data is in my system for my auto-paid bills.

A brief background is essential to a full understanding of the present situation:

I suspect Jude because at the time I met her, our mutual acquaintance's phone had also been "broken into", and he had told me he was having all kinds of issues with his phone turning on and off by itself, called "dropping", but only to certain people or entities, he was being called by collections departments of several issuers of credit cards telling him that payments were late on several different credit cards (not one of which he applied for or used), that his hacked information was also being used to pay bills from his account that weren't his, accounts for movies and music set up with his information but not by him, and he said he believed it was Jude (who was good friends with his ex-girlfriend) because his ex brought Jude over to their house to ask if he could fix her jeep, which he could. He said that while he would work on the Jeep, they would sit inside and talk, and Jude was often there for hours; she always had her cell phone in hand or by her side. He thought nothing of it then. He told me that Jude had been teaching his ex "computer stuff", and that Jude told him she used to work with computers a lot, gone to school to learn about them. It was during this time he brought her to me to ask about the generator. She had to make two payments for my generator. When she came by to make the second payment she gave me a lift to the store, and I asked her outright if she understood what our mutual acquaintance meant when he said he thought she'd "hacked" his phone, if that was possible. She said [I'll never forget her words] "anything's possible. I mean, I have a computer science degree, and I could hack into anything if I wanted to, but I wouldn't DARE do that...I could lose my job for doing something like that."

The first day my mechanic friend told me what was going on, we were on the phone and I was responding to what he was telling me; when I finished speaking it was silent. I asked if he was there (hello? HellO?), and heard the AT&T start-up tune that plays when an AT&T phone gets turned on. Thing is, I didn't turn it off, and the battery was full. When it came on I went to Recent Calls so I could tap on the last incoming call to call him back, but his name and number were not in my call log...they had been removed, remotely. I then went to Contacts and called him back. He said that had been happening to him a lot lately. Then weird things happened to my phone, and then came the unauthorized charges. I knew it had to do with my phone (I didn't have a computer or router then), but that was about all I knew, so I changed phone numbers.

Things were quiet until January of this year. I had been without a computer or internet for some time, but last year I was able to buy a new laptop and get internet service and a router (I received a modest inheritance and replaced some things that had broken over the years, and I added a kitchen to my cabin. Things were crazy and disorganized at home while the construction was going on and I was a bit overwhelmed. On January 15th of this year I needed to confirm that a bill was paid so I called WalMart Money Card customer service for a transaction history. There were charges listed that I did not recognize, but I could not understand some of the merchant names because of the way the computer-generated "voice" mispronounces things. I just knew they weren't anything I'd purchased. A friend helped me get my WalMart card registered on line so I could see all the transactions, and I was stunned to see approximately 18 payments totaling about $600 made from my account over a six month period that were not mine (all on line services). I contacted WalMart Money Card cust svc again to dispute the transactions. At the time, I had enough money in a local bank account, from the inheritance, I wasn't pinching pennies (which is why I didn't notice the money missing for so long...that and the fact that Green Dot does not send any kind of statements), and since I'd not had a computer for a couple years, I had no clue about the on line service.

Green Dot cust svc reps told me to print a transaction dispute form out from their web site, fill it out, mail it to them. I did. A month later, only 3 of the transactions were reversed, and I got a letter saying they would not reverse the rest. I got mad. I called back to ask why. They said because the merchants told them they WERE authorized transactions. I didn't buy it so I called the two remaining merchants, one which took 4 payments and the second took 9 payments from my account, to find out what was up.

One of them said they could not find my payment info (card # or name) in their system. I said the payments must be there because the "bank" told me they'd spoken to the merchant and the merchant confirmed the charges as valid, so it was there. I then conferenced in the WalMart Card service rep, who did NOT want to deal with the merchant, but I was pushy. It took over an hour and a half for the merchant to find the payments, and its representative said that she found my card number but it wasn't an account in my name. The Green Dot rep asked if I let anyone else use my card, to which I replied that I had not. I asked the merchant the name on the account and she replied, "It's for a Jude Patrick. Do you know who that is?" I think steam must have come out of my ears as I explained what I thought had happened. Green Dot was not going to refund the money without a police report number, but the police would not take a report then, either, but the merchant agreed to pay the bank back so the GD rep reluctantly agreed to return the money to me.

The second merchant, with the most charges, had a smart cust svc rep, and since I by then suspected what had happened and explained it, she stopped me and said, "sounds like identity theft to me. Of course we'll refund the money. But I can only go back 90 days." They did refund all but about $45; Green Dot refused to return the remaining $45. I was mad, but I had too much going on to waste my time over it and let it go. I changed cards and passwords and stuff all over again. That was about five months ago. By March, the kitchen addition was done and things settled down. I also had spent all but a few hundred dollars of my inheritance getting it done and was adjusting to being back on my low SS Disability income.

Fast forward to last month, May of 2015. After Jude stopped by on April Fool's Day and the wierdness began again I phoned the police. They would not make a report (again) because they don't understand how someone could hack into my system that way and they are not equipped to investigate cyber crime, and I could not prove harm enough to give them probable cause, even though I could show them that Jude had remotely accessed my phone, obtained my email address and password from the phone, used to hack through my WIFI into my computer system. Six weeks ago, I could not have explained it even as well as just did, which is not very well, but I'm learning. I will be calling them again to report identity theft, but I doubt they'll report that, either. I filed a complaint with the FBI Cyber Crime Unit via its website, but they have not responded. This has to stop!

It's bad enough having to deal with Jude's apparently unstoppable invasion, but having to deal with Green Dot is really exacerbating the problem. This time, they made me jump through more hoops than in January-February, they keep adding to the list of things I have to do, and each time they say it will take about ten working days (anew) bla bla bla. This time, they went too far, insisting I find a way to get my SIGNATURE into a computer and email them my SIGNATURE. Why? so they can use it to commit fraud somewhere else? I don't think so. Green Dot Corp does NOT require a signature; they don't do ANYTHING on paper, which is where signatures go. I smell a rat. And I'm STILL OUT OF TOILET PAPER!!

Unsolicited cards

I have not requested a Green Dot card, yet I am receiving one card a week by mail. They have ignored repeated requests to stop sending cards. A cease and desist notice has just been issued, whereas the next card received will result in the matter turned over to the Texas Attorney General.

Hey, Green Dot: Don't mess with Texas!

Bought a Green Dot Visa from Rite Aid as a method for direct deposit and purchases. Paid the fee for the card and then added $40 to the balance right there in Rite Aid.

Get home, try to register and activate the card online and their system is down. Tried to call the Customer Service number to activate it that way, and they get through the whole thing and tell me that their system is down too and can't activate the card and to call back.

Have been going through this for two days. So I ask the girl I am on the phone with (name of Ban, batch number 300071) for a supervisor and she says there are none. What?!?!?! So I ask for another representative. No go there either. I ask her if she is in the US and she says they are in Asia (large continent..doesn't really narrow anything down for me).

So now I have this utterly USELESS card and they have my $$. Oh, the refund they say takes 7-10 days...takes WEEKS and WEEKS from what I hear. This company is a JOKE. No card, no supervisor to talk to and no $40. Awesome.

On February 10th 2015 I brought one of your prepaid cards at a local check chasing place. Under your false advertising of get your refund direct deposit into your account and have no hassles and your money available to you right away. No fees and no wait time. I put $20.00 dollars to load the card. I did a transaction at a store on February 13th 2015 for $17.40. On February 20th I again uploaded my card with another $10.00. I used my card at a DVD express box for $2.62 on the same day. These two transaction were not posted on my account until the 23rd of February. On February 23rd 2015 I used the IRS website to find out about my Tax Return Refund and was informed that it had been direct deposited into the account I provided to my Tax Preparer, whom has been doing my taxes for the past 10 years. I provided Mr. Falcon with the direct deposit information provided by your website at Greendot.com.

I then proceed to call your customer service number at 866-795-7597 to verify that the funds had been in fact direct deposited to my account. I used the card that was mailed to my home. This being my legal address that I have used and lived for years and was also the address I have on file with the IRS for a few years now.

The funds were verified by me thru your automated system. I went and used an ATM machine to withdraw funds. The ATM was telling me I had the wrong pin number I called again your customer service number to find out that a block had been placed on my prepaid card. I was told I had to send in a form of ID to get the block remove and that it would take 48 hours. I was given a website to upload the information needed. The website was, greendot.com/verify. I went ad did as I was told on that same day and four days after that consecutively. I also called each time I did it to verify that the documentation was received and every time I would get a different customer service representative that would tell me da different thing each time. I was told that it was a different department that handled that and I could not be transferred and they would get back to me. One of them told me it would take up to 10 days to get back to me. Another told me that in their system it showed that they never received the documentation and that once I did the upload automatically their system picks it up. I was told all sorts of different excuses.

Every time I called I would also ask to be transferred over to a supervisor or manager. I was told that they had to put in a request and that it would take 24-48 hours for a manager to call me back. I did not hear back from a manager until Abril 6, 2015. Almost 2 months later. Your company didn’t even have the audacity to call me and tell me my account had been closed all together as of February 26, 2015. I found out because I called to get a status on my account since it had been 4 days and still no call back and no action had been taken by your company. Your customer service line would not even give me the option to speak with a live customer service representative, it just kept automatically hanging up on me.

In order for me to get a life customer service representative was to use my fiancé’s card. None of your representative was able to even give me a reason on why my account was closed. All they kept on saying was someone will call you back and again no one did until Abril 6, 2015. I then called the IRS to explain the situation they told me the only they can do was to wait until your company Greendot Corporation returned the funds back to them and then they could mail me a check to my home address. The IRS Representative told me he would make a note of it but in the meantime I could call your company Greendot and tell you to please send back the funds to the IRS. I could you another wave of multiple times with no success just to hear that someone is working on it and that I would get a call back. My Tax preparer also placed multiple calls with me on line to your customer service number to hear that your company need an approval from the IRS to get their funds back technically. We call the IRS on March 27th, 2015 and they told us that was not true and that they had never heard of such a thing and to call them again and tell them to wire the funds back to them, the IRS. I called Greendot and was told the wire transfer was schedule for March 28, 2015.

I received a called from a customer service representative from your company on Abril 6, 2015 by the name of Mark. He informed me that the wire transfer was schedule and it would be a matter of 1 to 2 business days. Today is Abril 14, 2015 again after Abril 6, 2015 I have made a multitude of phone calls, emails and chats to your company with no success. Nothing has been done. Last weeks on Abril 7th 2015, I was told along with my tax preparer that the IRS had to send over a letter of Indemnity and that the IRS was aware of the situation and what was going on. On Abril 13, 2015 I personally went to my local IRS office. They told me that your company never contacted them and that due to my call on March 27th 2015, the IRS sent over the wiring instructions for you to send back the funds to the IRS. They also stated they never heard of them having to send over an Indemnity letter to your company.

Therefore I have to say I am very disgusted and frustrated by your lack of customer service. Your lack of efficiency and service has caused my family and I a great deal of hardships and distress. We want you to please send the funds back to the IRS. As per the IRS you have what you need to send back funds to them. I have not been asking you to send funds to me.

Scam! Green dot was suggested to me with the Walmart name on it at Walmart to put tax refund money on it. I put $20 on it to buy it plus paid a three dollar fee.

Tried registering this stupid card on the internet. After I get through entering all of my personal info it freezes up. When I tried to call Green Dot, they get the information from me, then say there is a technical difficulty and the line drops. Walmart won't give me my money back...green dot is unreachable...therefore....it is a SCAM!

Don't do it! Don't put your tax refund on it!

Never recieved my replacement card. When i contacted the company i was told all sorts of half truths and sometimes outright lies. Post office confirms they never recieved the original card. Green dot could not supply me with hte tracking number with fedex. Basically, my money and my wages have been stolen and i have no recourse. I really needed that money to feed my family. Fedex said they dont even have my address or name in their system. BEWARE......Now i am in danger of having utilities shut off at home.

I bought a green dot debit card from rite aid , i put my money on it ,,, $80.00 dollars ,,, and tried to register and activate my card on thier website ,,, i thought i did activate it ,,, which i must of never did ,,, i went to use the card for some thing real important for my company , which was to get my billion dollar business called v wear up and running with people on the tv show shark tank with the card and iwas declined , i called the company greendot bank and they said it was declined because it had some unsual activiy on the card ,,, i explain it could not have been no unusal activity on the card because i just bought it and i have not even used it yet ,,, so they said they have put a hold , a block on my money for the safety of me and my money ,,, so i said ok , no problem , they said just send us some documents to show that you are the owner , so went to kinko's and fax them documents of my id and the receipt of the purchase of the green dot bank master card debit card with my social security number to them .... when they recived that information they said they can not see my id , it was in black and white and to small to see , so we discussed the situation and i told them it was thanksgiving time and i really do need my money ,,, i said i could read easily why can't you , and i know you see the receipt of the purchase so this is my card and its my money , please release my money now , i need it , you are stealing my money , this is really the wrong time for this and really there is really no good time ,,, but i will fax over the documents again and i will send the picture of my id bigger and in color , so i did , i blew up my id bigger and fax it over to them with the documents again to the same number i sent to them from the first fax ,,,, than when i called them back again and ask them if they have release the hold on my money so i could use the card they said that thy had to reopen a new dispute or ticket on the case and i am saying what is all this really about , why won't you just give me my name , why are you putting me through all this hell for my money ,,, this is ridiculous ... so after all the stress they gave me , they said this would only take a minute and so they open the new ticket and said it need it to be processed first ,,, so i ask how long it would take , they said about ten days and i complain why when all you have to do is just look at the documnts and that this is like my twentyeth time talking to you people here at green dot bank on this issue and situation , so they said ok call us tomorrow and we should have an up date on your account and should have your money un blocked and the hold off by than , so i called the next day and than they said they need more documents , and i said i have sent these documents to you with proof you have received them and they said they needed my socail security number again , i told them i sent all that and that i should you the receipt that i was the one that bought it and with my id and tha should of been enough documents and that should be all you need ,,, but ok i will send you the documents again and i sent them the socail security stsatement with my social security number and other id documents paper once more time and i said i am so sick of this stupid stuff , this is making no real sense at all , i feel they are trying to legally steal my money which there is no legal way to steal money , so after i fax them these documents again for about the 3rd or 4th time i called them and ask them if they had release the hold on my money and that my new card came in the mail with my name on it and it was christmas time , and i knew they where going take off the block , the hold on my money ... so i am dicussing the situation with them and they say they did not get the documents , they ask me wht fax number i used , and i said the same one i used all the other times, they said they did not receive them , now i am really upset and mad and tired and sick of all this , i told them which i had said before that i was going to sue them , i said i am going to sue you , you have been doing this for way to long , this have messed up my thanksgiving and now my christmas and you made me lose a meeting with the game changer and with a star on shark tank about my billion dollar company , my company called v wear , i said i know you have the documents i got the kinkos transmission verification report showing that the documents got sent to you with the correct fax number that went to you ,,, i said this is ridiculous about $80.00 of my money with the card i bought , so its my card and you are going to try to keep my money for no reason and i have no idea why you are doing this and i am going to sue you for over a billion dollars because of all this form my company you messed over to my thanksgiving you messed over my christmas you messed over and now my new years you messed over and i know i sent all these documents to the correct fax number with verification and proof from kinkos , so we discussed this for a while and i said now you can tell all this stuff your saying to the judge because i am suing you , they had a few managers call me back with all of them saying the same thing , i need to send the documents again and i just told all of them that i am suing them and that i was tired of them playing with me ,,, the have put me with so much stress it is ridiculous , and i have lost millions to billions of dollars because of this .... the pain and suffering alone is crazy knowing the worth of this problem is over a billion dollars and with the thought of that alone and all the other stuff this would make you lose your mind , which it did and is because they have not gave me my money yet , and there is no such thing as legal stealing ,,,, and they stole my money and i want to sue them green dot bank , rite aid and master card ,,,,

It seems to be too much of a coincidene that so many scams can run off the scam prepaid card for nothing to change. I have filed two Police reports for one to have given up thinking that the often would be an unresolveable and the other is ongoing. With the same results expected possibly due to amount which may be considered too low to Law Enforcement but any amount that you do not get anything in return is a Ripoff!

Been using this company for years, to pay bills. Felt it was safe. Moved 2 month's ago out of state so I purchased another card so that my kids could send me their rent money. One month later after I started a new job using the card for direct deposit the card was suspended to to my children paying me rent. Called the number on the card and they told me that I was not allowed to use the card under their terms and conditions. Which telling me that I have right to use the card in the way I was using it. Basically saying they have a right to suspend the account any any time due to illegal activity. Which is Bs. Never received my payroll which they said it would take 48 hrs to return to my payroll office 5 days later it still has not been returned. Got the run around with their Pillipino worker's who were trying to figure out where my money went. Still waiting on a so called Manager to contact me back. If the account was suspended they why did the accept the money in the first place. Which is fraudulent under false pretenses. No body can speak fluent english. This company needs shut down. Stealing peoples money and getting away with it. Beware of their false ads. Buyer beware. Never had a problem with them in 8 years until now. Will never ever use these people again.

On December 18, 2014 I purchased 14 green dot prepaid visa cards from Fred Meyers for christmas for family and friends. I loaded each one with $500.00. I paid in cash. I have tried for the last 3 days to activate these cards but the website and phone number do not work. I called Fred Meyers to ask for help and they said they do not refund prepaid cards and I was transfered over to green dot. Once I finally got a hold of someone the customer service agent told me that Fred Meyers had blocked my cards. I was very confused because I paid everything in cash. The people from green dot said that they would submit a request to unblock the cards but it would take 2 business days to receive the call to go through the unblocking request. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the the customer service agent put me on hold for 20 minutes to tell me that she could put me on a call back waiting list.

I have been trying for 3 hours to get some type of help but all of the customer service agents are rude and unprofessional. They do not even give you a phone number where you can contact them they say to call the retailer who sold it to you and then the retailer transfers you to them. Do not buy anything from these people all they want to do is take your money. I'm out $7000.00 and these people don't care. i'm going to take them to court to get my money back. i work hard for my money i did not rob a bank or steal the money..

It being the holiday season, I have been placing a number of online (non-card-swipe) orders. I was using a PREPAID Walmart Money Card MasterCard for many of these transactions.

My card started declining, even though I was keeping strict account of my balance and spending. When i viewed my account online, I saw many merchant preauthorization holds (including Walmart.com) which were still there even though the order had actually been charged and shipped later. This had resulted in over $500 in holds on my funds for items that already been charged to my account.

I called Green Dot customer service, and the representative told me that their company places a funding hold for ALL merchant authorizations for 10 BUSINESS DAYS. When I explained that these orders had already been charged and shipped, she said she could see that but that it was Green Dot's company policy to keep the holds for 10 days.

I told her that I believed this was a violation of MasterCard's terms of use, and she told me that my Green Dot card is a debit card, not a credit card, and that those rules don't apply. When I pointed out that there is a MasterCard logo on the front of the card and that it functions as both credit and debit, she told me that "all of our fees and terms are in the package with the card when you buy it and you should have read them." I told her that I would be contacting both MasterCard and Green Dot's corporate offices, as these holds were going to prevent me from buying Christmas gifts for my children.

Let me give you a hint about getting around these script-reading, useless customer service 'help desks'. Go to Google, and type in CEO and the name of the company you're having trouble with. Copy the name of their CEO from the search results, go back to the search box, type SEC, paste the CEO's name and hit Search.

Look for documents from sec.gov and open them up. These are the regulatory filings that every U.S. corporation has to make with the federal Security and Exchange Commission. They contain the names, addresses and phone numbers of people very high up in the corporate offices. You may not get a direct line to their CEO, but I guarantee you will find access to someone who will help you to get rid of you.

Long story short - the holds were released from my card within 3 hours of my aggravating 'help desk' conversation. Try it - you'll like the results.

I bought a card for $100. I activated it and used it once. I reloaded the card with $100 and my attempt to make a purchase (at the same company as before) was "unauthorized". I called the number on the back of the card and I was passed from one foriegn kid to another with the same reply - "we cannot find that card number. After 3 hours of this, I (dumb as I am) figured I could call back later an finally speak to a competent person. Ha! Didn't happen. The next day I called back and could not get through to speak to a live person. My card was now apparently not in the system. (You need a valid card number to get through to a person. So I went and bought ANOTHER card for $50. Couldn't happen twice to the same person in two days, right? Wrong. I got through and they told me there was a block on the new card and there was nothing they could do about it. They will not transfer you to anyone who can help. I have the receipts for both cards and they still won't do anything. If you have had similar problems, keep all cards and records and hopefully someone will start a class action lawsuit of some sort. I will be looking into that next as I have lost $150 and about 6 hours of time on the phone with foreign kids who are less that fluent in the English language. This is unexceptable and should not be tolerated. If anyone knows any numbers I can try, it would be very much appreciated.

On October 31, 2014, I purchased a Green Dot Money Pak card from Kroger and loaded it with $300 to take care of some online bill pay. I do this every 2 weeks as my prepaid card activity will prove. I normally load my prepaid card via www.greendot.com because it is easier than doing it over the phone. I attempted to load my prepaid card, everything looked to be going ok, then a message popped up on the screen stating that it has been requested that the funds of my moneypak be transferred into the bank account of ?? And left no name. And told me to give it 2 business days before I try to access my cash. This was really odd since I have never seen any messages like this before, only confirmation of my completed transaction.

I immediately call my card holder customer service to see if they had the request to put the funds into my account, and they said NO, to go ahead and give it the requested 2 business days. I contacted Green Dot corporation to inform them of the activity on their website and I was told that it seemed strange and that they can definitely help me if I gave them the moneypak number and a copy of the receipt. I gave them all the information they needed and I have been given the run around for 2 long weeks!! I had to e-mail and fax documentation twice because of claims that I was not cooperating. WTF?? I had every confirmation that the information had been sent and actually had to email it while I was on the phone with a rep! Because of them my phone will be disconnected over the weekend and they do not care. This has caused so much financial stress and I do not know what to do anymore!

I did not give anyone the number to this money pak card, the transaction was made solely between me and www.greendot.com. How does a company know nothing about "messages" that pop up on their website?? No one there has ever heard of a message like this which is making me believe it is an inside thing. Green Dot Corporation, give me my damn money!!!! I do not have extra money to give to anyone!!

  • Nov 10, 2014

I bought a green dot card and after opening found that i would have to provide my ss # and be subjected to their privacy policy , neither of which i wanted to do. i was able to finally get through to someone who took all my information and said i would recieve a refund . that was 2 months ago. they have since changed the phone menu so that i cannot speak to anyone because in order get through i have to provide the card number and the ss#. since i never registered, these are not in their records. Using their help or "contact us" menu gets an automated response.

obviously they will just keep my money. total rip-offs.

0n 9/19/2014 I purchased a Moneypak for $200 from them with process charge $204.95. The pin I activated was no good and my money has been in limbo ever since. Card gives you number to call but noone answers and sends you to thier website that is useless!!! It is now November 1 and still not even close to getting my cash back though at thier request emailed copy of pin and reciept of purchase. They constantly demand same info over and over again and demand phone contact. When do call you pass you off to numerous individuals who have no knowledge and ask for info again and again is endless and useless. I am a long haul truck driver and can not be instantly available anytime as work mostly nights due to customer concerns and tried to explain this but they do not care!

I have tried talking to them but call me while am driving and I can not deal with constant demand for transaction info when pass me off to some pion over and over again! DO NOT BUY MONEYPAKS IF DO NOT WORK YOU WILL NEVER SEE YOUR CASH AGAIN SYSTEM IS SET UP TO MAKE REFUND IMPOSSIBLE!!!

It is 41 days later and I am nowhere close to recieving my refund proof positive they care nothing about thier customers and will do everything to keep your cash.

I purchased A Green Dot moneypak from Pilot travel center on 8/29/14 for $200. I went to load it on my prepaid debt card. The moneypak stated it was insufficient funds. I contacted Green dot as well as pilot.I've been bounce back and forth between these two companies for almost 2weeks.pilot said the transaction went through.Green dot said it didn't.So where is my money?Nobody seems to know. Both companies have been very unconerned with my issue.Green Dot stated they were closing my case because they never recieved my money from pilot.Pilot told me they could not help me because the transaction was sucessful.I'm a single working mom with a special needs child,I can't afford to just give away $200,nor just sit and let many more people like myself be fraud without speaking up and out.Pilot Travel center should be ashamed of themselves. I spoke to many Truck Drivers whom has been fraud the same way, trying to send money home to there loved ones. My pray is that someone will read this story and help put a stop to Green Dot as well as pilot!

On 09/13/2014 I purcashed a $500 moneypak from CVS pharmacy to reload a prepaid card. I attempted to reload both my Higherone card and my emerald card, and moneypak refused to load either card. This is the message I recieved, "Green Dot reserves the right to deny the reloading of any card where Green Dot believes that excessive or unusual use of the MoneyPak is involved. This card can no longer be funded using the Green Dot MoneyPak. Funds loaded prior to this notification are available to you, but no additional funds may be loaded. We can process a refund for this MoneyPak."

When I called the customer support hotline, they refused to explain why my cards were blocked. While, they did initiate a refund, that I will have to wait 7 to 10 business days to recieve, I have no way to varify that I will actually recieve the refund. This is paramount to theft, and the fact that they blocked my cards has made me livid beyond belief! This is a horrible company and if I do not recieve my refund I have every intention on filing a criminal complaint, which is well within my rights to do. I recommend that no one ever use this company!

Contact someone over the phone with GreenDot. Asking them to take money off the GreenDot reload card and put it on my son's college MasterCard. After giving them all the information they kept my $360.00 and did't placed the money on my son's card. So he's away in college without funds. I am very upset about this I don't have money to throw away like that. And every time I call the number back it is busy. The so call number is 1-818-570-5090. I hope this company can help me with this natter.

I purchased a reloadable money pak card over an week ago from my local Walgreens in Huntsville, Al around 6:50 pm. Around 10:30 pm that same night, I scratched off the card to obtain the money pak number that had been secured in my vehicle that was parked in my garage. Upon attempting to load the 275.00 funds on to my account (checking account), I received an error (3) times and a message that said to contact Green Dot at the 800 number that was provided. Out of sheer frustration and 1 hour later of failed attempts of dialing the telephone that they provided, I did research and came up with another telephone contact number. I selected the option to report a lost or stolen card because there was not a direct option for what I was needing. After providing the caller on the other end (which was across the water) my money pak number, the first thing she asked me was if I had given anyone my card or receipt. I was already upset and yelling about my 275.00 and I finally calm down enoughto reply, no. She then informed me that my card had already been used and that started the ball in my level of frustration to even be higher. I asked her how in the world was this card previosuly used when I had just scratched the number off? She gave me no answer and just kept saying that they would need to investigate and that I needed to file a claim. Well, now 8 days later, I still have not heard back from anyone within the Fraud Dept only received an email last week stating that I would receive a telephone call within (5) business days and that phone call as yet to be received. I researched and found a telephone number which is supose to be for their Corporate Office of 626-765-2000 in which they are of no assistance at all. I then contacted the Monrovia, CA Police Dept and the Deputy knew exactly what Company I was talking about and stated that they no longer had an office in Monrovia, CA and that I should file a Police Report with my local Police Department and that they would get in contact with the Detectives that were familiar with this company. I plan on filing my Police Report early in the morning on 5-28-14 as well as file a report with the Better Business Bureau, The California Attorney General's Office and a potential law suit. I'm demanding my 275.00 back and more for my time and inconveience surrounding this matter. This company has operated for years but as time goes by they are underhandinly introducing themselves to the world of crime to include scams and this will not be tolerated. Advise to anyone reading this post....File a Police Report in your local area and contact the attorney General Office in your area as well as a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This type of business scam must be stopped and as citizens, we can stop it!

On Thursday, June 19th, my husband who is NOT in good health "walked" from our apartment to the corner store to take out $200.00 from the ATM. The purpose of this was in order that we could complete the purchase of a car. This is important because I have "walked" over half a mile, rain or shine to work for several months in order that we could SAVE the money for a car purchase. Finally achieving that, we had the money for the car, and our groceries.

My husbands attempt at taking out the $200.00 resulted in the receipt of a "DENIED" transaction, clearly shown on the receipt as such. He then walked across the street to another store where he successfully withdrew the funds. Minutes later I noticed (2) $200.00 charges, or $400.00 total. That being the amount for our car, and our groceries. I immediately called my husband who returned to store one and advised them the DENIED transaction was appearing as a charge. I arrived shortly thereafter and we contacted the ATM bank and advised them of the problem, and we also requested to speak with the Store Manager at One Star Food Mart # 8 (Valero), located at 4050 Gus Thomasson. The clerk said he was not there but would arrive about 10:30AM and would call us on arrival. During this time the ATM bank said the transaction was out of there control BUT that Federal Law stated we should contact our bank (Green Dot) Walmart Money Card. They stated Green Dot could initiate a dispute and provide us with a provisional credit since we were holding the PHYSICAL RECEIPT that the transaction in question had been declined. And that we obviously did NOT receive any funds.

Contacting Green Dot, and the obvious INDIA based customer service department. They then blamed the ATM bank, and advised us we could do without our money until the FALSE charge was either posted or finally dismissed from pending status. Perhaps taking until JULY 1st.

It gets better. Friday, June 20th, I FAXED the dispute form and a copy of the declined receipt to Green Dot. The thought being faster resolution to a SIMPLE problem. On Sunday, June 22nd, to our SHOCK the transaction actually posted as a charge. Reminder, we are holding the receipt that clearly and in BOLD PRINT says "DECLINED".

We immediately contacted India based Green Dot, who now inform us that we must file yet another dispute, and get this. Wait up to 45 days or 1 1/2 months before they will decide whether or not to return our money. Here we sit, out $200.00, DECLINED receipt in hand, empty refrigerator AND, to add insult to injury. Remember the Store Manager who would contact us on Thursday the 19th? We are still waiting on his call as I sit here broke an hungry on Sunday, June 22nd. This is out and out Theft and Fraud. We have ZERO MONEY, we need groceries and this is NOT right and can't possibly be legal.

I purchased a Green Dot Card and after reviewing the terms and fees I descided I was not satified and calle dthe company for a refund. The person on the phone informed me I couldn't receive a refund and I must spend all my money on the card.

HUGE SCAM! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! I HAVE REQUEST A REFUND AND SPOKE WITH THE MANAGER! I WAS TOLD 10-14 DAYS TO PROCESS MY REFUND WHO KNOWS HOW LONG AFTER THAT. I CALLED WITHIN THE SAME DAY I PURCHASED THE CARD. I DID NOT USE THE CARD AND UPSET THE COMPANY OPERATES THIS WAY. HOPEFULLY I ACTUALLY DO GET THE REFUND OF THE $100 I PUT ON THE CARD AND QUICKLY!

Never trust this company unless you want monthly fees and a company to steal your money! Green Dot are theifts! this is NOT A GIFT CARD or PREPAID CARD!

THIS COMPANY DOES NOT HAVE A GOOD REPUTATION AND MAKES MONEY BY STEALING IT FROM YOU AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I sent my business partner to riteaid to buy a greendot money pak. He called in to ask them a question and they turned the call into a complaint because they CANNOT SPEAK PROPER ENGLISH. They put a hold on $100 dollars and refuse to release the block on the card. Both me and my business partner have both called these clowns repeatedly with no results. I am gyoing to file ripoff reports against every retailer that sells the greendot pre paid credit card. I will file ten complaints per day against each retailer. I will also be calling each retailer's corporate headquarters every day urging them to stop selling greendot cards and money paks. I will continue filing ten ripoff reports per day against each retailer. My goal is to have at least one retailer stop selling the cards. When the retailer sees that there are 50 complaints at the top of google I am sure they will not be happy at all. The complaints will continue daily until my card is fully restored.

I've been fighting with Greendot since March to get my refund money back from them. They blocked my card and asked me to send in some identity verification. no problem But then they said my documents were false and they would have to send the monry back to the irs. ok. fine.

but wait...its july now and the irs nor the bank has received it. i dpoke with them every week since then and they keep saying «oh. we'll get back to you in 48 hours. » ive gotten this response gor slmost 4 months now!!! somebody help me please. ive got two small children and my car needs fixing.

I bought a Greendot MoneyPak from CVS. ($60)

I went online and added the money to my debit card. (Successful)

I tried to pay my phone bill. (Insufficient funds)

I checked debit my balance, the $6o was never added. (Phone bill late fee)

I called MoneyPak customer service (800) 473-3636 (Got the computer run around)

Went online and found there bulls*** corporate office number (626-765-2000)

I talked to something that didn't sound quite human. (Reading from a script)

I emailed pictures of my receipt and moneypak (Then 2 weeks of back and forth bulls***)

I called these clowns and they said my phone number is associated with fradulant activity. (Now I'm pissed)

Steer clear of GreenDot MoneyPak

I will find a way to get my $60 out of them. They f***** with the wrong person.

I purchased a $100.00 green dot money pak to put funding in my student account. I went to use the card the web site says call customer service. I called it and the recording says go to the web site and use the help tab. I went to the web site used the help tab which says it will be 7 days or longer for a refund. I filled it out doubt I will see my money and so much for paying my bill on time.
