Guitar Toolbox Reviews

  • Jun 27, 2014

Guitar Toolbox promised to provide guitar instruction via daily emails. On the GuitarToolbox.com website, JB listed the following physical address.

PO Box 4095

Wanganui, 4541

NEW ZEALAND

A physical address is one of the things I look for to validate that a company is legit. Being in New Zealand, I didn't have a reverse address tool to verify that this existed, but I decided to take a chance.

JB said that at $27 I would be a "charter member", supposedly subscribed for life. He sent 6 days of email instructions April 2 to April 7, 2013. The content was great, so I was initially very pleased.

On day 7, I received an email titled "URGENT INTERRUPTION" in which John B claimed he had come down with Miller Fisher Syndrome which was affecting his vision and would have to postpone further emails until he had recovered. What I learned on the internet is that Miller Fisher Syndrome is not a long term condition. It affects the nerves and should resolve in up to 6 weeks.

However, in this last email, JB says, "I realize some of you have been waiting for a few months for this course to continue but I have been too ill to reply 'till now... I have been through an extensive range of medical tests and have been hospitalized for the last six weeks."

I didn't recognize the conflict until now, that he said he'd "been hospitalized for the last six weeks". Then how did he get 6 emails out to me?

I'm not certain the guy wasn't still using an automated system while he was sick, to take registrations and send out emails he'd created months earlier. But if he wasn't able to create new emails due to vision problems, why didn't he disable the auto-registration? And why hasn't he written to say he couldn't continue and at least refund our money? Whatever the reason, it's been a year, he's still gone and I'm out $27.

I tried to go back to the GuitarToolbox.com web site and it's no longer there. I tried to grab an IP address from one of the emails but the header didn't offer one. When I went to www.ip-adress.com and used the ip_tracer tool, it returned Houston, TX.

If this was a scam (likely), this guy will probably create another website. I won't get my money back, but I hope I can help someone else from getting taken. I just wish I had more details to help with that.
