Hertz Car Rental Reviews

I rented a mid-size car, which shows a Chevy Cruise in the picture on my reservation. I was given a base model Chevy Cruise to drive. When I returned the vehicle I was informed of an $11.00 per day upgrade, and told a Chevy Cruise is not a mid-size car. I called the toll free number and was told they would not refund the over charged amount. This is highway robbery. Please do not rent from Hertz.

At Hertz Los Angeles Airport location: A customer service rep snuck in an upgrade on a vehicle that I did not order. I had prepaid for my vehicle and SAID that I did not want to pay anything additional. They tricked me into an upgrade that matched (almost exactly) the amount that I prepaid.

I did not realize it at the time that this was additional (in the middle of the night at a kiosk at LAX with a customer service rep on a phone- not a live person) When I saw the charge after I returned home and called in I was told ""You signed the contract- there's nothing we can do"" but it's so obvious that the customer service rep was taking advantage of me to make their commission!!! Hertz ripped me off.

They offered to give me back 10%. I said yes- please give it back- but not that I was not wanting the rest back. So next they tell me, ""You agreed to the refund that customer service offered you"" as if that meant I would not be receiving anything else. I did agree to the partial refund but not that I didn't want the rest too!

Makes me wonder how often the car rental representatives put you into upgrades that you don't want- and people don't complain so they get to keep doing it!

I had a prepaid car to pick up from Orlando Airport. Paid for in the UK with insurance and should have been nothing extra to pay. My card was swiped at the Hertz check in and I was told that the amount on the receipt was just a retainer payment and would be fully refunded on return of undamaged vehicle.

When I returned vehicle after the two week holiday I was charged $204 dollars for two insurance policies I did not know that I had apparently agreed to. Even though I was told face to face when I checked in that there was nothing to pay on top of the prepaid amount.

When I complained the rather condescending woman at the desk told me there was nothing I could do as I had signed the contract. My brother in law was with me throughout this as he was picking up another vehicle. He was charged the same also and told the same lies about there not actually being a charge on top of the prepaid amount.

Very unhappy about being treated this way, and particularly shocking after two weeks of very helpful and gracious American hospitality.

I am not sure what lesson I have learnt from this experience as I had got used to trusting retailers in the US. But I will be actively warning people to stay away from Hertz from now on.
