Matthew Shaughnessy of High Groove Automotive Repair in Boise, Idaho will rip you off.

Awhile back I received a quote from a repair shop to performe work on a head gasket replacement. I was quoted for around $900 for just a head gasket replacement. Seeking to get more work for this price I tured to craigslist looking for a good long time mechanic who could use some extra work and get paid well for a good service. After weeding out about 10 mechanics who replied back I decided to go with High Groove Autimotive repair, aka: Matthew Shaughnessy. He seemed to be up front and honest when we first met, he quoted me $870 for parts plus labor. In my post on craigslist I stated I would want a professional job and the candidate must have their own tools. Matt said he had the tools and quoted me no longer then 2 weeks. So I gave the guy cash up front total $470 (even gave him an extra $10 for his sad stories) Receipt declairs paid for these items:

- Item:HS26236PT2. (Head gasket set/Incl head bolts engine gasket set LT warranty / QTY: 1 @ $200.)

- Item: D17A ( Timing belt kit, water pump,includes valve cover gasket kit / QTY: 1 @ $150.)

- Item: SERVCE (Upon removal of cylinder head, send out to be checked and machined / Qty: 1 @ $120.)

Total: $470 paid: cash.

On the night of his first day to start he reschedules two times then 10 mi.utes before his appointment with us he cancelled for the next day claiming he didnt have time. Trying to figure out a game plan on time he starts to flip out and tell me he doesnt want to do this job. I asked him for parts then he hangs up on me. Send him an email giving him another chance to calm down and saying i still would like him to work on it he responded with long outrageous emails back. Finally got this guy to calm down, he showed up the next day he had 2 kids with him, no front plates and no registration on his back plate, sayung he was just there to drain the fluids. Before he comes over he sends me another email asking for more money $100 in labor to start. I was getting worried because we already paid for $120 in service for the machine head and was wondering what would happen when the time come to send it in and he's already asking for more money. So I ask him how long do you think this will take he states "I told you 2 or more weeks" and i simply ask well whats the game plan? He said it would take to weeks. He starts getting biligerant and short, so i tell him hes not the guy and I have some one else who can do it faster. Matt gets super upset opens his trunk of his Explorer smash grabs the parts hands them to me. So I get the parts ( not sure if their all there) and I explain I have already paid for $120 in service. He saus where?! I pull out our receipr and show him the $120 he slams tge door and yells "sue me" then speeds down the street.

Considering letting all this go once I confirm with another mechanic I hace all my parts.

However this guy Matt keot emailing me about how I " Screwed my self" and my parts are no longer under warranty" I decided to persue this action for tge entire ammount. I am posting this to warn you of this Mobile Mechanic in Boise, Idaho area named: High Groove Automotive Repair. Aka.Matthew Shaughnessy. Buyer beware if you are considering this guy.

On a side note: I have still be receiving emails from this guy even though I told him to stop.

Good until he wasn't

We had him do some minor things on our vehicles which turned out good. We then had him do some other things on our cars which we paid him for but in the end he told us to get our cars off his property and didn't do what he stated he would do. I also asked for all receipts and records--neither of which was ever given to me.

Car 1-

He "fixed" some things but those weren't the problem. Finally figured out the problem (after hundreds of dollars spent) which was a catalytic converter and burnt valves. Since we had put so much into it we went ahead and had him do this as he said he had done tons of these. He also said 2 weeks. After 3 months we asked about the car again, he got belligerent throwing personal insults at us which we calmly responded to. When we finally got it to a competent mechanic we found Matt had stripped 8 of the cam bolts essentially ruining our new head. In short, he totaled our car.

Car 2-

He said timing needed changing, 2-3 weeks. Again after 3 months he tells us to come get it (he had it at the same time as cars 1,3). After getting it to the same competent mechanic we found the timing was just fine. It actually needed a new intake manifold and a couple sensors to make it run smoothly. However, before we could find this out the mechanic had to put the vehicle back together.

Car 3-

He had worked on this one for a while as it had some electrical issues. He said it needed a complete rewiring which he had about halfway done. When we got it back from a different competent mechanic we found Matt was right that it was the security system, however it didn't need rewiring, just a disconnect and a new alternator (which we had already replaced, but was not given receipts for so we couldn't warranty it out).

In short, simple stuff he can do but he expects payment upfront no matter his timeline. Due to his lack of knowledge he cost us thousands.
