I hired Homejoy from a Groupon but paid extra to add the 5 hours they recommended would be needed to thoroughly clean my house and paid extra to use their cleaning supplies. I live in a 6 room house with 3 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, family room and 1-1/2 baths. I thought 5 hours was excessive based on prior cleanings but went along thinking my house would be left spotless.
The company lists what items will be included in the cleaning. The cleaner did not clean any of the bathroom sinks or the tub and shower nor did she clean the kitchen sink. She just wiped it off. The black kitchen appliances were smeared with something that took me two times to remove with Windex.
Laminate and tile floors were cleaned with somethink like a swiffer with a rag tied to one end. Only the middles were cleaned but the floors were not vacuumed first. She did not have a bucket of cleaning solution either. Dust bunnies and scuff marks were left behind. In addition, the laminate floors were left with a dull finish rather than a shine.
Wood surfaces were not thoroughly dusted and some were not touched. The items on the surfaces were not dusted. Television screens were not cleaned. None of the shelves were dusted.
When I contacted Homejoy through email, they sent me a trite pre-scripted response about how much they care and how well their people are trained. I've never seen anyone who cleans a floor first and dusts later. When I described how much was not done, they offered me a $20.00 credit toward my next cleaning. Why would I want to spend another $100 to have them come back out another time when most likely, I will see the same results? I told them to unsubscribe my account.
I did some research on the company after this experience which I should have done first. They are an internet company who does not have employees; they have contractors. The contractors have to buy their products from Homejoy. The contractor receives less than half of the $20.00 an hour the compay charges.
A manager should have come out to my house within a day or two to inspect the job after I detailed my complaints. Instead, I received canned email responses.
It was a ripoff even at the reduced price and I would not recommend them to anyone.
