ITT Technical Institute Reviews

  • Jun 18, 2015

I was enrolled in classes without my consent, constantly pressured to start school this month for classes that started 2 days ago. Talked to like an idiot. This piece of trash director Don Clendaniel continually pressured me trying to get me to answer his questions like I was there to agree with him and do whatever he said or wanted. Then when the recruiting guy left the room he really hyped up the talking to me like I'm A simpleton, not even going to repeat what this scumbag said. These people are scum. If your smart don't even entertain the thought of visiting itt tech at 13 airline drive in albany,ny. Its no wonder the recruiting guy was blowing up my cell phone for months, because there dying to scam any student that they can.

Now I'm worried they'll try to take my money later on even though I never went there any classes since the financial aid guy flew me through the financial aid process on the computer. Time for me to lawyer up, call the Albany BAR association and better business bureau as well as the attorney general.

I have looking for a lawsuit or trying to find out how to go about my issues with ITT tech. I went to ITT tech in Oklahoma City from 2008-2010. I graduated with my associates in the Drafting and Design course. The first thing that bothered me while I was there was my discipline teacher of the CAD program. He was a drunk that was fired numerous times for drinking on the job and rehired shortly after. He did not teach the class what we needed to know, we relied on each other for help. I continued to push through and graduate though. Before my graduation the added another class to the course requiring me to pay for yet another quarter before I could graduate. When I confronted them they basically told me they were a private school and could do what they wanted. When I graduated I was told I would have a job waiting in my field which was a lie. I ended up moving back to Amarillo where I went back to work hanging steel. My land lord at the time was needing a drafter and had talked to me about a position, so I took it. When I started working for him ITT tech started calling me and asking about where I worked and everything, then emailed me papers to sign and have my employer sign as an “evaluation”. Later I found out that the Career Services department was taking credit for me working in the drafting field as though they had gotten the job for me. I started working at my current job in 2012 in the drafting field. I was talking to the fellow drafters about their degrees and where they got them. Most went to the local college and acquired the SAME degree I have for LESS than $5,000……..My degree has cost me over $60,000. I am furious about this. I even talked to some of our engineers here that went to West Texas A&M and graduated with their BACHELORS in engineering and paid LESS than $27,000 for everything. It is very frustrating to know that ITT Tech is more concerned about money from their students then their students. Basically what I see from them is Misleading their students, Falsifying documents to receive commission, False advertisement, and not being able to transfer credits without starting from scratch. This school is profiting from peoples lake of knowledge on the school. When they called me last I started asking them for all my information and documents from when I went. When I really started asking questions the lady ask me why I was asking for information like I was. I told her I wanted to get everything together for a lawsuit I seen pending against ITT Tech. After I told her this she refused to provide me with the information, said I needed to contact Houston’s office. When I called them they told me I needed to contact Oklahoma City again. I was pasted back and forth and still have not received the information and documents I asked for. Is there anything I can do to join an active lawsuit against this school?

Like so many before me my report is the same. I saw advertising about ITT Technical Institute on T.V thought I'd look into attending but had questions first. Would I learn hands on instruction on how to repair computers and Electronics ? I was told by the school recuitor that not only would I learn these basic skills but my capstone project would entail building a rocket.

I Graduated 2nd in my class with Honors, half my degree was based on Computer engineering the other half was electrical Engineering.

We were taught nothing about computers. When I complained to the director of Career Services and the Dean of Students I was told that those classes were tought to us by the instutors and I must have been absent on those days. I missed 1 day the entire time I attended this Institute.

I was paying alot for this education I wanted all the information I could get.

Niether of these people could or would provide me with a honest answer Since I graduated both of these people have been replaced. I got an apology from the director of Career Services after she had been terminated. Though out my education a number of instructors would come and go as well. I experienced quite a lot of turn over in the staff from administration to instructors.

I was told I would have no problem finding a career in my field as I had done so well in my classes I was a shoe in for many companies, I had 1 interview and I was told I didn't qualify for the job. It was not for being or having a questionable past history I have no criminal record of any kind. I was just told I didnt meet their needs.

Which now brings me to my Student loan dept I was told by the financial dept at ITT in the beginning I would have no problems qualifying for Federal loans only. Half way through my education Iam told were sorry but we cant get you only Federal Loans and but we can get you private loans and the interest rate will be 12% .

The private loans were with Student CU connect and they were 16.25% not the 12% I was originally told. Then Student CU Connect tells my monthly payment will be upwards of. 477.00 month and will not except any less than that amount. If I don't pay it they will refer it to collections doesn't matter that I am unemployed that's not their problem.

Is there any legal action I can take against either of these Institutions ?

I attended ITT technical Institute, in Portland, Oregon. I started in CADD but after 3 terms switched to a new program they had just added. Multimedia Design. I very excited because it was actually more along the lines of Graphic Design, which was what I had originally wanted to pursue. Boy was that a mistake. They had instuctors that they had brought in to fill the teachers desk in many of my course. ITT had just thrown the curriculam together and were not even using the current versions of the programs we were paying big bucks to learn. Infact the were a few versions behind. At the time I did not realize that was the case. Also for Graphic or Multimedia disign a MAC computer is used in most buisness. When we worked on projects for the classes I would ask for assistance to correct or clarrify a problem I was having, most of the time the teacher had no answer for me and would just tell me to turn it in done incorrectly and grade it. How are we suppose to learn if the teacher has no idea what is going on or how to fix it. We would lose teacher in the middle of a class, they would bring someone in to "teach" the class, but they had no background or helpful knowledge in that subject. We were told to pair up and work with each other.

They even closed the school for a few days to audit their student files involving the money aspect. Once reopened they suddenly were upgrading class rooms. Before that we had old chalk boards, miss matched tables and chairs, dirty carpet and so on. Once I did graduate, I took and internship with a small graphic design company...I was stunned by how much I did not know and so was my boss. This was just basic photo retouching mind you, and all on a MAC. I did get a job later thur on of their referals but it was not really anything to do with my degree. So during that two years I rarely if ever used any programs I should have been keeping up with.

My loan was consolidated and turned into 2 loans in my name for differant amonts to 2 different holders. It took me months to get that all straightened out. Finally I start repayment of my loan to one of the holders and pay on it for about 4 years, close to 8k. Hard times hit and I end up in default and collections (my own fault for that happening). So I got to file bankruptcy and low and behold there is that second student loan popping up again. So now my loan gets turmed over to collections and I am trying to get it straightened out because it is now back up to 30k, which is more the when I graduated it was at 29k. So I am trying to figure out where the 8k went that I had paid. I realize there are collection fees or interest but 8k worth ??? It was only in default for over a year. Now no one seems to be able to produce any records of payments previously made for me. But they sure can garnish my wages and take my tax return. I now am not eligable for finacial aid, and was not eligable when my loan was in good standing either. They said when I applied for it to go back to a community college and get a degree that would actually get me some where in life, that I had a degree that I could be using to work therefore I did not deserve of qualify for any help. Even though I had not been able to find another job in my degree field due to the lack of knowledge I had for any of the position which were entry level that ITT had done so well to prepare me for.

Now I am unemployed in horrible debt. Have not been able to find a job that is not seasonal in over a year. Stuck not being able to afford a decent education and will be paying on the unusable sad excuse for degree till the day I die. It just breaks my heart that I made such a horrible decision and the fact that I am smart and have so many aveunes that I would love to explore carrer wise. But again most of them take College which I cannot afford while I pay back this useless degree I worked so hard for. I am saddened by the greed ITT has shown and can't understand how they get away with ruining lives. Not to mention nothing for their school transfers, they don't tell you that either. Please somebody stop theres greedy monsters.

Let me first start off to say. If you're reading this than maybe you're indecisive about furthering your education at ANY ITT-Technical Institute. Well let me say this nicely, Please Dont! ITT-Technical is a business for marketing to get consumer's money not to get an education. I wasn't aware of the importance of attending an regionally accredited school as to attending a nationally accredited school like ITT-Tech. They sell you this in the first session of meeting you as if it was a good thing. Oh by the way if you are hoping to get your CPA license this ISNT the school for you to get an Accounting degree. They don't tell you these types of things. Research is a MUST! The instructors are nothing like professional instructors. It seems like they are just working to get a paycheck. Tuition is 493.00 per 1 credit, so if your class is 4.5 credits for one quarter, you will pay 2218.50 plus standard 200.00 tuition fee. I attended ONE quarter (3 months) for 2 courses it cost me 4637.00. I owe close to 5k and my credits doesn't count towards my major, I really messed up this time. The recuiter advise me that attending the first year was going to cost my around 4200 just in students loans, most of the costs would be taken care of by my pell grant and the Accounting scholarship grant. Now that I'm leaving after finding that their Accounting degree will not be credit when I apply to take the CPA exam, I would have to pay almost 500 per credit. This school is only for those who only want short term self-fulfillment.

I started ITT Tech in 2005 right out of high school, my family could not help me with loans as they were just out of bankruptcy. I was lured in by promises of a 4 year degree in game design, a great job, transferable credits. I got none of these things I got 77,000 worth of debt and a degree nobody wants.

The 4 year degree scam: I had to start with the multimedia classed and when I finished my 2 year multimedia part I was supposed to get my final 2 years of game design. I found out after 2 years of school they were not going to offer the 4 year at my school I would have to Change schools to get my 4 year... one problem nobody takes our credits.

Predatory Lending to the MAX: when I started I was told I qualify for hope and Pell grants, during the first loan process I was told they didn't offer them because the school was too new. I held a 4.0 GPA in college and could not have hope or pell? Then every time a new charge or fee would come up they would drag us up to the front and sit us down to make us take out more loans not explaining the interest or how it would affect us just that we had to have it to finish or stay in school. 77000 dollars later I am saying how the heck did we miss what they were doing.

Job placement:

Yeah sure they will help get you in a job... if the job is wendys McDonald's or just a general labor job, their extent of job placement is a cork board with department of labor job lists not actually in the field jobs.

OK at this point of reliving my crap education, I learned more from my graphic arts classes in high school and was forced to relive algebra. I'm hoping that nobody else has to go through this.
