On Tuesday evening March 10, 2015 my son and his girlfriend who are both 20 young adults went to Jackson Hewitt at the Walmart location in Peachtree City, GA to have tax returns done. A lady named Michelle Rodriguez helped them. They asked what the cost would be to file their returns since they had an ad on the radio to come let them do your taxes and get a free walmart gift card. We start as low as 38.00. She told them both that their returns would be anywhere between 80-85. They asked about the 38.00 deal. She stated that was just for the basic state tax. They agreed since she told them they both would get a 100.00 gift card so in their minds they just got taxes done for free and could pocket 15-20 dollars. Once all said and done he was charged 378.95 on a basic W2 1040 EZ. She was charged 395.95 on a basic 1040 EZ. Asked why so high she exclaimed that's what the computer charged. I went back with them and they were closed.

I went back Wednesday morning because they were to open at 10am. I handed a lady named Temi Lafola my son's W2 asked what they would charge. Mind you I just went to H & R Block to see what their chargers were which was $75.00. She Temi informed me that t he charge e old be about 80.00. I asked about the sign for 38.00. She explained that was for a basic state return. And she informed me she could not give an accurate amount. I told her she has to know a estimate with her being an accountant. She replied probably about 80-85. I said are there hidden fees? She looked at W2 again and said no this was a very simple 1040 EZ. So I gave her both kids returns and said explain this. All she said was Oh wow! Then she started recanting. And she informed me they got a 100 walmart gift card they had to add to fees. I said wait a minute the cards are free. Then I pointed out that she charged them to file a state return. Well guess what? The state of TN does not have a state return and you charge 84.00. And according to your signs all over the walls and Internet it states if your returns had a mistake they would be free. She argued no mistake was made. I said it shows in your cost state tax fee 84.00. She still argued that Tennessee has a state tax. I called the district office left message for Dennis Smith who is the supervisor. Temi called back Wednesday afternoon late and said they would reimburse 39.00 for the mistake on the state taxes. I said no mam your sign says it free if you make mistake and full amounts must be returned and besides you charged 84.00 for a false charge and only willing to pay 39.00. So then while at the location she pulled a stack of returns out of file cabinet and proceed to go through naming the amounts of what others paid with their personal info facing us. She was advised that was none of our business and she was breaching others personal info. She put them up.

Finally on Thursday afternoon late Dennis Smith the district manager called and said he was only charging 178.00 instead of 394.00 I said no sir your sign states free if you make a mistake. He said no because they have to recover the 100 gift card. I told him bs. Have not heard from anyone since. On Wednesday I filed complaint consumer advocate agency, walmart HQ, Jackson Hewitt HQ, went to the PTC PD about breach of personal information. Filed a 14157-A form with the IRS. Contacted all news media outlets and filed complaint with the attorney general office. I even sent the President of Jackson Hewitt a lengthy email with all documents as well as Dennis Smith again. And to date nothing from Jackson Hewitt or Walmart. This is highway robbery and Fraud. If you advertise something free then it's free not included in fees. If you have signs everywhere that says if you make a mistake or its free then by golly abide by it. This company is very fraudulent. Tonya Boyd

I had my taxes prepared at Jackson Hewitt the year because my computer crashed on me. I always use turbo tax. Their fee is only $35 or free. So I went to the Jackson Hewitt office at Walmart in carrollton Texas. I was offered a @500 dollar advice which never came because the tax preparer never mentioned I needed to register it in ten days or I loose the money. Now for the tax preparation fees they charged me $558 dollars for a simple tax return with one W -2. Turbo tax charges $35 dollars for the same exact service. I ask them to please explain to how my prep fee could possibly be @558 dollars. When turbo tax uses the same basic software and charges $35 dollars. The tried telling me their software is much more advanced. I have never had one single issue with turbo tax. This is a scam plain and simple. The prey on the poor offering them the advance which most don't even receive because they don't tell you to register the card. And never verbally go over the fees with. They just make you sign a ton of papers. The place is a rip off please do not use jackson Hewitt.

My Boyfriend and I went to get our taxes done on 1-28-15. I was able to complete mine, but as I finished up my tax representitive told me it would cost $182.00 to have them done. I had 0 deductions and I'm not married and have 0 kids. She then got started on my boyfriends taxes, but had to put it on hold, due to missing information she needed. She then ran us up and told us Mike would have to finish mine up,it was time for her to go home. When I went over to Mike he told me to just put lines for my name instead of signing it. My boyfriend and I then went back on 1-4-15 to turn in his missing information. The tax representive Mike the other JH rep seemed very angry as we set down. The computer wouldn't let him clock in, so he was punching the keyboard really hard. As my boyfriend and I sat down I told him I had a $10 refer a friend coupon, he shook his head in acknowledgement. His computer was acting up and he was getting very angry. He got to the signing part and I asked him nicely if he would put the coupon in before he got finished. He got very upset and said in a very angry tone " what do you want me to do void it". I told him " no, but I mentioned it a couple of times I wanted to use it". He then said " you really want to do it over over a $10 coupon". I said " no, I was just reminding you to use it". He then took my boyfriend's papers off the printer and tossed them at me. My boyfriend told him he wasn't going to talk to me like that. He then took it as a threat, but we both told him he should be professional about things not throwing things around over nothing. I told him I wanted his supervisor's name and number. He got really red in his face from anger and told me the number aggressively. His supervisor then took up for him and told us to leave. I spoke with management at Walmart along with my manager at Walmart. They had told my manager that employees heard how disrespectful the JH representative was to us. My boyfriend stayed seated waiting on the supervisor, not saying a word, so he called the law on him.I have never been treated so badly in my life. I honestly think I should get my money back or something should be done. I was humiliated and in complete shock because I never thought a tax office would be so unprofessional. No one deserves that kind of treatment. I hope to get something done.

I normally file my own taxes. Since I do not make a lot of money, I use the free file link on the irs.gov site to locate a provider and I only pay for my state taxes which is usually around $19.99. This year, I really needed extra money for car repairs. I saw an online ad by Jackson Hewitt for a $200 advance on your income tax refund and a $50 bonus. This would be perfect because the worst repairs would be that amount. I called the office to confirm what I saw on the internet was available in my area and I went in to the office. Also, The advance was advertised as being no credit check and 0% interest.

When I arrived at the office, I was greeted and completed some paperwork. I was told the advance was actually $500 with the $50 gift card. I thought great! I completed the application, worked with a tax preparer. When I was done she informed me that my preparation total and loan repayment fee was $349. $309 for tax preparation fee and $40 for loan fee. But my refund was over $6,000 (again, I work but I do not make alot of money and I have children and yes I actually have a bachelor's degree (however worthless, from a traditional brick and mortar school,I am in graduate school also, but I digress). I knew it was high, but I needed the money, so I agreed and left with my paperwork and gift card in hand. I was told upon leaving, I would receive a text message in 1 hour notifying me that my gift card was loaded and another text message in another hour stating that my loan was ready for an e-signature.

I went to the library to work on my school work and waited for the text messages, which I never received. I did go to the website on the back of the card and saw that the $50 was already loaded. In all I waited 2 hours at the library, went home, continued to check my phone and email, never received a message, went to sleep.

NEXT DAY- I checked my phone for text messages, checked my email for messages- NOTHING. I went to work. I tried calling the JH office were my taxes were prepared and they did not open until 9am. I waited until 9am. I called and spoke to a representative who advised that I needed to set up an account at www.jacksonhewitt.com. Which I did. It showed my refund had been sent to the irs and acknowledged but, there was no information on the advance. I checked www.irs.gov and it confirmed this information. I waited about 2 hours, still no text message received and the only emails from JH were confirming that I set up my online account with them. I called the office back, the girl advised me to call the phone number on the back of the card, which I did. She stated "people have been calling all day and this is what they did to solve the problem". I called the number and it gave me no more information about the card other than the $50 balance. I then called JH back another person told me to go to www.200forfree.com. She told me that I needed to select the apply button for the loan. However, last night I saw the tax preparer select apply for loan. I told her this and she told me to select it anyway and follow the prompts and I should have a text message telling me to esign my documents in a few minutes. I did that, waited one hour, NO text message/NO email. I called the local office back. Someone else in the local office told me to go to the SAME website and login because "that's what everybody else that had been calling and complaining about NOT getting their money told her they did". I logged in and the message stated my application was processing. I accidentally logged out and logged back in, and I was told that there was NO application. She told me to hit Apply again, which I did and I was sent through the same prompts again. Same thing, no application, then there was an application. Then they told me to call a phone number for the "bank" that approves the loan. In all I hit apply and completed the application at least 6 times. Finally I received a text message telling me to go esign my documents with a link. I typed the link in on my computer and entered my login information and was told there was no application. I tried the link fromt he phone and I was told there was no application. I waited, tried to just log in to the regular link and I was told that I needed to read and sign the application which I did. The signature was the last four of my social. When I click applied it told me I was denied. Of course I was pissed especially because it was advertised that there was no credit check. I called the office back. they gave me another number to call and I spoke to someone overseas with BAD ENGLISH who told me she didn't know why and couldn't tell me why, I just need to wait on a letter. I called the local office back, same old run around.I am not exactly sure what happened. My credit actually is not that bad, It's not an 800 but it's not a 650 either LOL! I try VERY hard to live within my means and I don't take out loans at all if I can help it.

This all seems like a GLORIFIED SCAM. Just something to SUCKER you in.

So I fell for it BUT NEVER AGAIN. Back to doing my own taxes. $305 is not worth it.

The worst ever experience I had in my life. The made a mistake in my tax return and said will correct (after I spent $1,000 with my attorney to find it) and then NEVER corrected him, even after I contacted them maybe 10 times or so. Nick Ellis is the manager for the Huntington Beach office and Lindsay Knadler was the preparer working out of the Wal Mart location in Laguna Niguel.
