LA Fitness North Brunswick, NJ Reviews

I was a member of La Fitness for years, until I signed up for personal training. The trainer asked if I wanted a fitness assessment, which I agreed to do...after that he went into his offer to train me. I told him that I could not afford personal training; I had heard that it was quite expensive. He said, oh don't worry we can map out a plan where I would pay $70/session. I could buy 4 sessions and he would throw in a couple of free ones. No problem. I paid that day $380...they added some initiation fee! SMH That is the time I should have known something wasn't right and said ""never mind"" and ran for the hills! A month later, $180 was debited from my account....I called LA Fitness, and according to them I signed a contract for 28 weeks of training at $180 per month!!

How did 4 sessions turn into 28 weeks! The trainer never told me I was signing up for 28 weeks, or that I would be paying $180 monthly. He just showed me where to initial on that box! If I said I only wanted 4 sessions, and that is what I agreed to pay for, why would he knowingly sign me up for something that was clearly not what I wanted?

I complained to the training manager, (not the person who signed me up, he's disappeared), who said that he would have someone take care of it; cancel the contract so that I would not be billed. They would just keep the $380 that I agreed on initially. (Side note: I never got the 4 sessions since the trainer disappeared and no one else in that place seems to care). I digress, so this person supposedly canceled the contract....NOT! Another $180 was debited from my account! My bank reversed a credit because the gym sent them the contract I signed, which was supposedly canceled a month ago.

I have since canceled my membership and according to LA Fitness the only way out of the contract is a buy-out...I think I've paid enough for something I did not agree on and never got. I called the training manager again today; he's going to call that person later today to see why the contract wasn't canceled. If they don't credit my $$ back I'm reporting them to the BBB...they are fraudulent in their business dealings! If as a consumer, we say, I want to buy a service for a specific length of time and we agree to pay for just that, why would a business take it upon themselves to go against what we want and bind us to a contract that is not what we agreed upon?! It's not right!!
