ER Providers Ripping Off Patients and Hospital Acting As Deceptive Gatekeeper

My complaint is with the ER Physician and Anesthesiologist whose services I was provided by Los Alamos Medical Center for a broken foot and arm, as well as the hospital itself. I went to my only local hospital which is clearly contracted with my insurance company, but just got stuck with a bill from the ER doctor and anesthesiologist who are not contracted and refuse to accept only the usual, customary and reasonable rate that my insurance pays to out-of-network providers. Instead, they greedily took my insurance company's payment and additionally are balance billing me for the rest of their exorbitant rates. And, what's really ridiculous is that the ER doctor basically did very little for me and called in an orthopedic surgeon who took care of me (and who, thankfully is contracted with my insurance). Now, when all the insurance payments and adjustments shook out, the ER doctor basically expects to receive more than the orthopedic surgeon accepted (and he did the work). That's ludicrous. Hospitals should consider themselves gatekeepers, such that if the ER facility is contracted with your insurance, then any provider which THEY present to you should be, as well. It is very misleading and obviously ER patients are under physical DURESS when they sign paperwork upon arrival. There is a reason why legislature against such balance billing had been introduced in multiple states - because it is SHOCKING and WRONG. Shame on Los Alamos Medical Center, not to mention the unscrupulous uncaring ER providers who are making more money DIRECTLY out of the pockets of unfortunate people facing a crisis. What on earth do I have insurance for if it can't cover me in an emergency? This is crazy and scary. Please change the laws in New Mexico to limit such uncontracted providers to accept the usual, customary and reasonable rates that insurance companies will and do pay and prohibit balance billing.

Los Alamos Medical Center in Los Alamos NM is riddled with corruption. About two years, Sandra J Palmento the lead certified therapist (not even at least registered) began calling me names such as spic, ghetto etc. Then she proceeded to lie about my work not being completed so when called in by management, they were NOT able to validate her claims. The job was done----I mean you can't just abandon patients. Sandra does so and she's been reported so much but one would think she's having sex with upper echelon because no matter how horrible her behavior, they keep her on at the expense of patients and staff. She's not even properly credentialed to be a lead. The entire department is registered except her and it reflects on the quality of her commitment for staff and patients. For example, I reported her for cheating on a advanced cardiac life class, yet we are expected to use her for advice. I dont because I refuse to waste my time on someone who can not define a very common and ordinary drug named Atropine. I google my doubts, run to doctors and call a friend from another hospital....anything to make sure my patient is not hurt.

This person proceeded to use the hospital email system to send only to me sexual journal where people orgasm via asphyxiation. It was sent only to me and it has nothing to do with my work. Reported and nothing happened. I reported to them the false billing and false documentation she creates. -- nothing. She practically was forcing a nurse to write me up for not doing my work by pushing the paperwork to her chest. It did not work---the nurse refused to lie. (Thank you Sandoval) But then she proceeded to submit the same complaints to management. They attempted to corner me but that failed as well because I do my work and Sandoval spoke the truth.

I was even called in for not charging patients for their care. Once again, I proved to them that a charge on the patient was NOT due, but Sandy placed the false charges anyway and never corrected them. I informed management that those were false charges by sandy. That patient is paying today for therapy she never received. There was a doctors order placing the service on hold and I showed it to them but they never corrected the patient charges.

I would have to participate in these meetings despite that I worked 12hr nights, live two hours away, and had to return to work. But they were not invested in my or anyone's well-being and after awhile I informed management that i will no longer attend to their meetings because the matters are unjustified, I have been truthful and I was not wasting my time at my health's expense any longer. And that furthermore, it was a waste of time as they DID NOTHING about the bullying, the false patient charges etc. that I was able to proove to them.

Finally, one day the HR person, Jacqui Carroll calls me into her office and tells me, "what are you thinking about?....Sandy can sue you! That did it for me and I began recording them for over a year atleast. So finally, the so-called lead therapist, Sandra J. Palmento assaulted and battered me with a hospital grade door, she proceeded to lie about it as well and stated she feared me and told management that I was forcing my way into the office to hurt Sandra....That was a horrific lie that will be undone by the recordings. I was terminated and during grievance process with the ceo I provided certain recordings to show them HR was a liar, that Sandra was also a liar and I should get my job back. It did not work......why? They rather invest on unscroupulous, lying healthcare providers that are stealing from our patients, lying on documentation and abusing the staff.Its impossible you will receive quality care with a fair billing. It will not happen as long as they have someone willing to manipulate the paperwork and as long as management allows it.

I reported all this to the CEO, Feliciano jiron....He never responded to my concerns and ultimately I accused him of being part of problem.All I remember from that man is that we were all doing patient care, he wanted water and though he was only but 2 foot from the fountain, he stuck his arm out with the mug waiting for someone to get the water which was literally two feet away from him. His expectation was we were to leave our patients so can serve him water. That disgusted me to the point that I lost respect for him and coupled by the fact that he never responded to patient, staff abuses, makes it so that it is clear this man is not a real CEO, and is incapable of being one. If that CEO is more interested in stopping patient care so he can get his water 2 ft away, then he promotes ineptitude, financial abuse and Does not deserve that position.

Sandy, HR director, and the CEO need to go so we can finally get a real hospital at Los Alamos that is truely invested in its community instead of stealing from them. So even though I was terminated and typically not entitled to unemployment, I appealed and won after providing my proof. They did not even show up.

So now there are lawsuits all over the place. The HR bully is attempting to blacklist me from obtaining work my stating "I think Milagros was arrested but we're not sure because it happened on the second floor." and its been distributed. It was too much for her to look at the police report but when I told her of the recordings, she turned red and looked concerned. I would be too.HR Director's, Jacqui Carroll lawsuit #CV 2014-00799 and summoned

Sandra J. Palmento Lawsuit # CV 2013-09922 and summoned. And case no.D-101-CV 200900709 - permanent restraining order placed on Palmento because she abuses people but still on the job.Currently I am working on a suit for the CEO who cant get his own water while staff is doing patient care.

Look folks, consider and research your hospital and the bills you receive from Los Alamos Medical Center. It's so very important. The cost is sooo expensive and I know some folks suffer because of those bills. They also know you suffer except they dont care. At least review your bills and fight them hard.

My hope is that if we push and keep talking we will have the control and they will be forced to bill you correctly and fairly even if they throw tantrums all over the place.My name is Milagros Q (((REDACTED)))

Just wanted to add how horrible this place is : This lead Therapist, SANDRA PALMENTO, STOLE 295.00 I collected from many at the hospital for a co-workers wedding and that skunk stole the money I gave her to give to bride. I had the bride check her accounts for that several times....no where to be found. I also filed an EEOC complaint back in March of 2013.
