Beware of Donna with Mr. Sandless here in Atlanta!!!

THE BIG COVER UP! – Why you should never hire this company if you value your home and possessions.

I’m filing a lawsuit and suing them (read why below) for the damages, lack of competence, total disregard for my home, frustration and the time I have and will be wasting making this company accountable to their customers! Not small claims court, I found the meanest mofo I can because I tried the nice route and that didn’t work.

In hind sight I should have known that any vendor that records your initial conversation with her, Yes she does and is happy to email it to you when you ask her to be accountable and make things right… plus she is in such high demand that she requires you to pay ½ their money upfront just to reserve your spot on the calendar. Smells like trouble looking back.

So we hired Donna and her company to remove a finish that was put on our hard wood floors – Quick Shine. She removed it alright and left it on our dining room table, large beach picture of my kids (the one that you walk out of the Hilton Head photographer’s place wondering why you just paid so much for a photo and you still need a $300 frame to hang it), all walls, ceiling, baseboards, doors, door jams, dish washer, refrigerator, antiqued island, carpet, lap top computer…you get the picture.

When we left our home the first day upon their arrival she assured me, don’t worry we are insured and bonded.

Upon return and throughout the night, my wife and I realized the crappy job that was done on the main level floor…gritty, grimy finish. Wax Burgers as I call them all over the place – my wife notices them on the floors but I’m more focused on the base boards…What the heck…my base boards are covered with wax, dirty, nasty, wax… its up on the walls even, every door jam, my dish washer, refrig and on everything throughout the main level 3 to 4 inches up. They used 1” painters tape on my carpet but got it 3” over onto the carpet.

My wife and I get on our hands and knees looking all over the floor to find an absolute complete mess…I’m dumb founded. I can’t believe the total lack of respect for my home but I’m easy going and I think I’ll talk to Donna the next day, she seems nice and reasonable so she will surely understand and be accountable.

The next day I showed Donna the mess, the gritty finish, terrible finished product, etc.. She said it was OUR fault because the Quick Shine is so hard to remove and she offered to only replace the toe molding which is the tiny quarter round where the base board meets the floor. I told / showed her that was the least of my worries since it was up the base boards and onto the walls. We disagreed and told her that if the surface wasn’t ready then they should have never put the new finish on because now she covered up old Quick Shine, dirty wax burgers, dirt and whatever else her team didn’t clean up before putting down the new finish…this is common sense, isn’t it?

The guy she brought the second day agreed with me that it was a mess and said he wished he would have been at my home the prior day because this would have never happened.

I told Donna to NOT put down the new finish up stairs until I inspected the floor and made sure the surface was ready for the new finish.

After they left I noticed the First of the Big Cover UP - we started to move our furniture back and noticed wax spots on a laptop, computer table, etc.. Then we notice the dining room table that Donna had a cover on had spots all over it…she covered it up but when? Evidently after the wax started flying around the room!

My wife decided to move the picture of our kids off the wall somewhere else safe and when she did we noticed 2 huge wax runs BEHIND the picture? The Next Big Cover UP - I launched into full investigation mode…short story is: they dropped a bucket of wax and it flew in 2 directions…up and out…landed on the picture, behind the picture, on the door, door jam, ceiling, stairs going down stairs, walls and ceiling. I called Donna and told her I found the mess and she acted like she had no idea what I was talking about…but they had tried to clean it up I could tell…smeared on the picture and frame, wiped all over the wall and ceiling, not wiped up on the stairs in the basement 15’ from where they were working, another wall and the door jams…she later admitted that one of her guys did drop something and stuff went everywhere but they cleaned it up…wrong!

Donna and her partner met me a few days later, reviewed all the damage and asked me to provide them a solution, reassured me they were reasonable people looking for a reasonable resolution. After providing them quotes to fix the items damaged and to correct their work they have offered very little to rectify the situation and again blamed us for what happened.

It’s a blessing we Uncovered the Big Cover UP because I bet a lot of Donna’s customers notice these same items days or weeks later and don’t connect the dots.

Stay completely away and tell your friends too…they advertise in all the home remodeling magazines that show up free in the mail, offer 100% satisfaction or your money back, have a Happy Client Counter on their web site, etc.. It's a shame.
