National Home Gardening Club Reviews

But that never happened. We DID however start getting gardening books, at first ever couple of months. I paid for them, even thought we hadn't planned on them. Then they started coming more frequently, one month I got 3 or 4, and I started sending them back. Well, wouldn't you know, we started getting demands for payment for books I'd returned! Finally I paid for a final book I never received just to get them off my back, and told them to cancel my membership. In November or December 2013 we received 2 lovely calendars, again unsolicited, and again with a bill. I wrote yet another letter telling them I had cancelled our membership but since I HAD received the calendars I paid something like $30 for the two. So 2014 went by, we received no magazines and I forgot about them. THEN last December my husband brings in a couple of calendars that had arrived in the mail. You guessed it, from Home Gardening Club. And, of course, they want more money. As far as I'm concerned, they are a gift. The subscription/membership was cancelled, I didn't order them and I don't want to pay $30.97 for th em but I'm sure it will go against my credit rating if I don't. I tried to log on but my old I.D. and password don't work. This really is a huge rip-off.

I think they are associated with the National Cooking Club of which I'm a lifetime member. Never hear from them, either! At first got monthly magazines and actually did get some little something to try out but that was several years ago and I haven't heard from them in over a year.

I have been a member of National Home Gardening Club since 04/2012. I have paid for a life membership. I was promised a lifetime magazine subscription. My magazines have not come for 6months and I have been unable to reach them. The package I recieved upon full payment was not what I was led to believe. I was told I could give my subscriptio to my heir when I die and they could do the same. I'm very dissapointed with them and I want my money back.

Bait and Switch

I took the trial, then a year-long membership. Then they sent me books and a couple small products. I paid for one book, but more came. I finally got them to stop, but still paid for 1 or 2 that I did not want just to stop the hounding. Meanwhile, I fell for their 'free stuff' con and paid for a full life time membership. That was about $200. Since then, I maybe got one magazine and no more products. Now, I get an email saying they are no longer sending the print magazine and it will all be online. Well, I do not want that! I emailed for a refund and they replied, tough luck--no refunds (or words to that effect). Has anyone had any luck reporting them to consumer protection or anywhere? I'd really like most, or all, of my $200 back, since I received next to nothing for it, and now they are not even going to be sending the magazine!

They said they shipped something to me but I never recieved anything from this company. This was like 2 or 3 years ago. They hired a company to collect the money I told them I never did anything with this company. They hounded me at my work For $28.?? I paid it because Im sick and tired of them. They put it on my credit report. I can't believe this.

I was told when I became a "life member", that I Would be able to test products. I did one or two product tests and gave an un-favorable grade to the product. They did not send me any more products to test.

I have tried to contact them, with questions about different garden problems, and have never reeived an answer or even an acknowledgement that my question was received. I paid for my life membership in full, which was supposed to include a lifetime subscription to the magazine "Gardening How-To". I received the magazine until about this last Spring, then it stopped. Haven't received it since about April.

I am being billed as a member of the Natiional Home Gardening Club. I have never joined this club. Yet the bill keeps rising. I am apparently 2 years behind on my automatic reenrollment membership.

I have been a Lifetime Member of National Home Gardening Club for 4 years. When I joined, there were nice benefits that were attached to the membership. One being that you could sign up for product testing. However, since I have joined, the membership has been tossed around from site to site and company to company. Now with it being Scout.com, there is no way to sign up for product testing. This was an agreement made between the compnay and myself and they have failed on their end. They get your money, send you cheap tools that you can buy at any 99 cent store.

Please think twice about joining their club. I have registered a complaint with the BBB.

Paid an exorbantant amount of money over a 12 month period to become a "life member". The membership includes a few free gardening tools, a lifetime subscription to Gardening How-To magazine and the option to "test" gardening items for free. The company began mailing me books and tools and then charging me for them. I would return them. The last tool they sent to me, a gardening saw, was returned the following day in March. They mailed me a bill. I contacted the company and told them I had returned the saw and they said not to worry about it. For the next three months they sent a bill warning me that I would be sent to a collections agent if I did not pay for the saw. Again, I contacted the company and they told me that all was fine. 2 months ago I noticed that my magazine subscription had stopped and my on-line account shows that I owe a membership payment, even though I am already a lifetime member.

This company is a racket. They do not exist as part of a gardening community, but as a means to trick gardeners out of money. I learned a lesson by wasteing my money....I hope others will read this report before subscribing to this fraudulent club.

The National Home Gardening Club sounded really interesting to me, so I joined in July, 2010. The cost was $12, with no mention of having to pay any more money. In their invitation to join, they promised that they'd send ""free"" gifts, such as pruners and other gardening tools. Along with the free gifts also came the allure of product testing, which meant that any gardening tool or device that I tested would be mine to keep...free of charge.

Sadly, I never received any of the free things that they promised, except for one, ginormous headache!

They cashed my check in August. In October I started getting e-mails from them, stating that I owed them money. In November I started receiving letters. Now it's March, and they're threatening to send me to collections.

Their M.O. seems to be that they do a bait and switch. They promise free items to hook you, and then they start sending letters that threaten you. They've actually sent members to collections, all under the guise that they've done their part.

If anyone has had this type of experience, please contact me. This company has to be stopped, because it's just not right!
