We purchased a brand new home in June 2013 which had a Nordyne HVAC unit installed. It is now March 2015 so 21 months ago and the Heating unit (complete Motor) is defective and non working. We contacted our home builder and manufacturer Nordyne who told us they only warranty this particular item SERIAL #NSA130500367 for 1 year from the home purchase date. This is ridiculous as it will now cost us over $1,000 to replace and it is currently 32 degrees outside. My husband contacted the manufacturer today after speaking with our HVAC technician and they are not willing to comprehend or admit that the parts are defective. I believe the quality of these motors are not up to standard if they last less than 5 years with monthly filter changes. We even purchased an extended warranty through Assurant Group which is no help at all. They informed me that it would take up to 10 days just to send out an inspector to report back to them, they will then review our warranty and determine if its covered and at that time will schedule a contractor to repair. I was told it can take up to 30 days. (that will be another RIP OFF REPORT). This just is not considered professional and standard if a manufacture is making defective HVAC units that only last a year and they will not replace at their cost or reimburse for repairs or replacement. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and if more people see this report I pray that maybe we can start a class action lawsuit for defective parts that should last longer than under 2 years.

I purchased a Nordyne heat pump about 3 years ago to replace my 15 year old unit that had never given me any problems considering it's age. I assumed that for the price I paid that it would last as least as long as my old unit....but in about 4 months it began to leak freon and I was responsible for their defective product. Had it fixed at my expense because they said it wasn't covered by my $600 extended warranty or even the factory warranty. After I paid one time, I had to pay to have it fixed a second time at my expense. (This problem also plays havoc with your light bill too.) After the third time I paid to have it repaired, I begin to think it's going to be cheaper to buy a real heat pump from a reliable dealer and save money in the long run and just charge it to experience. Nordyne will not even act like they care about your problem with their product. Nor does anything they have in writing in their warranty have any value, it's not worth the paper it's written on. Buyer beware: Stay away from Nordyne!!!!

I has a new HVAC installed in April 2014. It has a 10year warranty. It cost $6500 installed. The unit started to fail in July and completly went down in late August. The cause was poor material and the coil on the outside unit was cracked. The AC has been struggling for months ans should have been replaced as described in the warranty certificate. Unfortunately that is not what happenned. First Nordyne handles the warranty for Frigidaire. Only the installer can talk to the distributor or Nordyne. However they needed payment for the warrantied part up front from me the consumer. That's $795 that may or not be refunded. However I live in Houston at the height of the summer and the part will take 10 bussiness days or up to 2 weeks to arrive. However the distributor had the same HVAC in stock and could have easily done a swap without any problem. I had to pay an additional $850 for a temporary unit while waiting on the part. This is outrageous warranty practices and I will never buy any other product with the name Frigidaire on it. A lesson well learned - do not buy something has sensitive as an HVAC unless the manufacturer is local or the distributor carries parts.

In addition the installer gets paid $250 for his entire time, from removing the rental unit, taking apart the broken unit and replace the coil which is a rather lenghty project and reinstall and charge the unit. The consumer has to pay the difference. Outrageous practice. Anything else I would have owned could have been returned and replaced for something that expensive and only a little more than 3 months in operation.
