Performant Recovery Reviews

On January 21st I spoke to a representative about my defaulted loan. I explained to her that I have a disabled daughter that has been in the hospital over 6 times in the last few months because of a life threatening illness. The initial person I spoke to wanted to know when was I going to be available to talk at which time I explained to her I'm currently at the hospital with my child I'm unable to have this conversation and that I would call when I left the hospital. She then continued to ask what time would that be and I said I have no idea however I will call her back. After asking me repeatedly for a time I then hung up. Some hours later I returned the call she was not availbe so I began to tell Jeff how rude she was and I didn't appreciate Her rudeness under the circumstances. The conversation with Jeff was ok and I told him I would send my papers over and call back, however before I could get out of the parking lot I was called to come back to the hospital. The next day came and I received a call but chose not to take it while at the hospital, finally answering the call from Jeff he explained I needed to get those papers in within 24hrs. I told him I'm still by my child's side and I don't want to give him a time especially dealing with a chronic illness. Instead the response I got was I will put this on a low priority hold until Monday. I can understand their position if I was working and had 50,000 income but I don't the representatives need a lesson in case by case compassioN. The truth of the matter is they are trying to get me to pay 5 dollars a month and I don't even have earned income any more what are they going to do garnish welfare... I have nothing but the ability and responsibility to care for my child before anything.

I haven't made one payment yet my loan went in default last June 2014. I can't imagine that working with this company on rehabilitation of my loan would be easy. Sounds like they bring on as much harassment and stress no matter how nice your trying to be to them and explain.

Shame on them!

I'd been working to get my school loans consolidated over the past year. Several of my loans were with several different companies. I contacted all the companies to ensure that I could federally consolidate all the loans. I contacted Performant in May 2014 and made a payment that I was told would ensure that my account stayed current so that it would be eligible for consolidation. I also set up for there to be subsequent payments until the federal consolidation went through to continue to have the account current. On this date my paycheck was garnished by Performant. My federal consolidation payments begin Oct. 1st. I called Performant 1-800-927-7667 ext. 7946 Cindy Harmon and was transferred to Larry Morgan supervisor in garnishments. Ms. Morgan relayed that the payments that had been set up were not processed. I asked at least 10 different times in different ways why the payments did not process and he would not and could not answer the question, saying the payment was my responsibility. I repeated over and over yes and that is why I gave the company my bank information to take the payment and asked how I could have anything to do with whether on their end they did not process the payment. At no time was my bank account delinquent the funds were always there. In the end Ms. Morgan hung up on me for what reason I do not know other than he didn't like me asking the same question over and over as to why the payments didn't process. Now my check is being garnished and I will begin my actual federal loan consolidation program. I will not be able to afford both and will subsequently be at risk of losing my home and belongings.

They offer a payment arrangement and manipulate the payments so that you end up held prisoner to them and do not follow through on their promises. In 2012 I spoke with Natalie Gardner my assigned rep. We came to an agreement and a scheduled monthly payment arrangement that would be automatically withdrawn from my account. I was also told that I was in default on my student loan and after 9 payments it would be removed from default and released back to the original hold, Dept of Ed. I informed her that my loan had been duplicated and I only owed on one loan and the balance was incorrect.

She said that while this was being disputed I should continue paying the amount agreed upon, which was calculated from the total amount owed at that time. She also agreed that there was something wrong with the account. Payments continued to be taken from my account and I would occasionally contact her on the status of the dispute and would always get the run around that it was under evaluation with Dept of Ed. In Sept I noticed that my August and Sept payments were not taken from my account, and this would have been my 9th payment taking me out of default.

I contact the Dept of Ed to find out it they had my loan now and to set up my payments. They said that it was still in default and that they had nothing on record of my account being under investigation. I called my rep, Natalie, to find out why my payments stopped being withdrawn from my account and why it was not under evaluation. She said that it was my responsibility to make sure my payments were made and unfortunately my account was back to square one in the default process and I would have to continue making 9 payments to get out.

I contacted the Dept of Ed and explained the situation and they stated that alot of times this happens with this company, so they can keep you making payments to them and being stuck paying their rates. It took almost 2 years of persistence to get them to finally remove the duplicated loan and adjust my account, but they would not reevaluate my payments and my default. I am now purchasing a home and they still have me in default.

When I called her to pay it off she told me conflicting options. I finally paid it off and told her I was about to lose the home I was purchasing and to please release the account as paid to the Dept of Ed so they could remove it from the FHA CAIVRS report as clear. They are deceptive and liars. They are not their to help you but to rip you off. They also never adjusted my account or the interest I was charged all of that time when they removed the duplicate.

I dont see what settlement option I have at this point. I paid the account off. The stress they caused me, nor the fact that me or my young children may not have a home to live in in a few days can not be repaid. They did not seem to care much when I pleaded with them to help me, but instead they went out of their way to prolong everything to after the date I needed it to be submitted so I would not lose this home purchase. I wish they were not given such freedom nor power over someone.
