Recreational Equipment, Inc Reviews

  • Jun 25, 2014

I am a member of REI and have been for 15 years. With that being said I have thrown out my membership and will never shop at REI again unless they change there current business model. I have made every excuse in the book sticking up for REI over the years but unfortunetly ther are no excuses left. The past year I have done most of my shoping at the REI store in Tempe, AZ. 1405 Southern Ave. I have never had a good experience there and quite frankly I am extemely low matienence and I set the bar quite low. The customer service at this particular store is aweful. If you attempt to return an item they alway try to stiff you and find a way to not honor what use to be excellent 100% safsifaction warranty.

Or at the very best REI will drag there feet while doing it as if to make you feel like it is your fault and they are punishing you for returning an item to REI. Listen the last thing I want to do EVER is return an item. Its a waste of time, gas, energy and money. When I buy something I really don't care what it cost. If I want it and I can afford it I buy it. With that being said my expectation is when I open the box it actually works and quite frankly its a hit or miss anymore at REI. The last 5 thing I have bought at REI were either ripped or defective right out of the box.

Then to add insult to injury I go into REI Tepme, AZ store and voice my concerns and the night manager at REI stood there and made every excuse in the book and then had the audacity to say, "well there are other places to shop". I was not only there to return another defective item but to consider buying a bike light. I asked the same night manager (who happened to be standing 15 feet from me watching and starring at me looking at the bike lights) if he could open the box so I could inspect the contents to at least insure it worked before I left the store. His response was, "well I would have to go to the front of the store and get the key to open the box". Loyal customer NO MORE. Im done.
