3 weeks ago I replied to an add on Craigslist looking for apprentice engine machinists on behalf of my boyfriend. The whole time he worked their he had a bad vibe. We purchased 200 worth of the $400 in tools required to do this job which was stated would come out of his pay if these parts weren't purchased. They hired my boyfriend and he worked for this man Dean Winters in this little ehop in Gary where him and his woman/secretary lived with him in the back. They had my boyfriend rebuilding heads which he had done in the past but needed some refreshing on doing which was understood upon hiring him. He was grateful for the job and all he learned although this man consistently threatened his job and would act bipolar towards him. He consistently came home and studied various techniques that Dean recommended. One day he would complement the job he was doing the next he would threaten to fire him over something dumb. He stated he had fired 350 employees and been to court 25 times as well as 9 months in jail.

Out of curiosity I googled this man. I found all these reports that this man had ripped off at least 25 people and my boyfriend saw where the engines were payed out and matched them to reports up to 3 years old. The next day he stopped kissing his a** and to make a long story short my boyfriend lost his job for mumbling. He demanded that he would get paid on that day and left the job taking our 200 worth of tools which made approximately 600 since their were holidays these weeks. he looks as though he is on the move all his things are packed in a truck outside as if he is ready to go at any minute. Just in case a class action lawsuit was served I wanted to let these people know he can be located at 3809 Garfield Street, Gary IN 46408 and Dean Winter seems to be an alcoholic that got over his head in work and sometimes according to my boyfriend rigs engines so they are bound to break eventually.

I hope that justice is served for my boyfriend was keeping our family fed and bills paid for a few weeks we thought he had an actual opportunity go learn to rebuild engines which he was let down by the fact he really enjoyed learning this trade. Sorry for the bogus business this man did, he will probably get up and leave when served with a lawsuit.

Bought a " remanufactured" engine off them, said they'd mag-tested them, like an MRI? I guess... I'd never heard of it. But for stress fractures, so they knew the block was good. So, I bought a 6.5 diesel Chevy engine to replace the one I had that blew up on me. At 285,000+ miles. Well, I paid to have the old engine removed. The new one put in. And for the new engine. Guess what? Remanufactured didn't have all thier oars in the water that day, because, there was water in the oil. I bought a long block, which means there should have been no water in the oil. So, my mechanic warned me, and, accordingly, I changed the oil. More water in the oil.

Now, I bought the engine, but I must have been making payments, cause while I paid in full on my credit card, and they said they had one for me on the phone, it took nine months to arrive. I got a little nasty on the email. My mechanic had the engine out, waiting for the new one... He wasn't happy either. We don't talk much, now. Nine months later, water in the oil.

They didn't believe me. They didn't believe my mechanic. who pinpointed it to the fifth cylinder....and works on big rigs for a living.... thanks for taking in me and my problem. I took it to a Chevy dealership, who confirmed the diagnoses. Remanufactured.com called a Chevy dealership in Bay City MI where we build these things, to say they didn't know what they were talking about.

So. Eventually, I shipped the engine back. Had to pay all the shipping. Got my intial back for the engine. Out $10K, in $2500. I'll take the loss these people are impossible.

So, to be clear... I bought a cheap engine, paid very little for it, and got that back. What I did pay for, also, was all the shipping, all the installation, reremoval, all that. I'm about 6k down on the deal, and they were a**holes about it.

The company was delivered my 496 CI boat engine for repair on 06/03/13. As of 09/16/13 they still have not finished work on my engine. When I contact them before I sent them the engine they informed me that repair time was approximately 30 days. It's now beeen over 3.5 months and I still have no estimated completion date on the engine. In the meantime, I'm incurring boat storage fees at my marina repair facility of $8.83 per day a cost which I had not anticipated.

The only information I've received from Laura was that they were awaiting parts. My engine is not an uncommon one and I can find all the parts, pistons, rings, bearings etc easily online so it is my opinion that they are lying to me. I trusted them to live up to their repair time of 30 days but have been taken unfair advantage of including loosing a summer of boating, planned outings with my sons visits from Washington DC and visiting the various marine sites on Tampa Bay.

They will not commit to any delivery date. I even asked them to return my engine and my payment check so that I could find another repair company to timely repair my engine. They denied my request and are now holding both my engine and i hostage. I guess the only way to apply pressure is to file a lawsuit to get my engine back. I'm wondering if they still have it.

I did ask for the name of the company owner and his/her phone number but Laura would not give it to me.

In summary, avoid this company. If what they're doing to me is normal then you will experience more porblems and addtional costs than you should incur.
