South Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine Reviews

  • Jul 23, 2014

My husband and I went to South Florida Institute for Reproductive since last May of 2013. Dr. Ellen Wood was our doctor. We went to the office in Pembroke Pines. At the beginning the doctor and the staffs seem very nice. As times go on, the billing staffs become very mean to us. We have health insurance. All the diagnostics and tests are cover by the insurance. The problem with this office is that they do not verify the insurance benefits thoroughly. I remembered that I got hit with the lab bills from Quest Diagnostic because the billing dept did not verify whether or not the service was covered with my insurance. Until when I received the bill, they then told me that it did not cover. The bill was not cheap about $800 and I was shock and mad. Not only that bill, I also got hit with another bill about $8,000 that does not cover by the insurance because of the genetic tests. The staffs do not inform whether or not the labs were cover or tell you the fees. They just did it first and when you got hit with the bill and they could not help you out, you are on your own and start paying for it.

This year, I changed new health insurance. This insurance is better than the old one. My husband got HBA test and I got RIP blood tests. The billing staffs again told us that it does not cover by the insurance. They wanted us to pay upfront the fees. Once the service and the fees were paid, I found out from my insurance that the office is in-network and the doctor is in-network with the insurance. When that happen, they have the contract with the insurance. THey have to send the claim to the insurance to get process and if denied, then they can collect the fees from the patients. The office violates the contract as I was told by the insurance. I have to submit the claim to my insurance to get process and guess what, the test that performed on my husband covered at 100% by my insurance when the office said that it was not. Not only that, I do not responsible for anything. Because the office was in-network with the insurance, the insurance has to pay the claim directly to the office and not to me. When I contact the office to get my money back, they told me that they did not get pay or got Explanation of Benefit from my insurance when I have proof that I got the statement. They said that I need to talk to the billing dept. Instead of having to talk to a live person, they said that they will email the person in the billing dept and I should get a call within a week. My insurance even call over to the office to get the reimbursement back for me and was transferred to the voicemail. A week has been pass, no one call me or my insurance. I then called again this morning and was told that the person I spoke to have no idea of what she was doing. Jessica is the one that works at the office gave me the email address of the billing dept and said that I should email. Meanwhile, she told my insurance to leave voice mail for the same person that was left last week. I sent the email to the person and still did not get through.

Not only that, this office also cheats patients with insurance with copayment. Dr. Wood is a specialist but also specializing in OBGYN. WHen it comes to copayment, we should only pay her as OBGYN doctor rate rather than specialist rate according to my insurance. So one time, they charged me $35 because Dr. Wood is a specialist. When I received the explanation of benefit from my insurance, I saw my copayment was $25. I called my insurance and found out that the rate should be $25 because she is OBGYN as well. I went to the office on the next visit and told them that I should get back $10 because I was overpaid. THey argued with me that Dr. Wood was a specialist and I should pay $35 and they do not know why the insurance only process $25. They even told me to call my insurance to pay me the difference back. I was mad. I called my insurance right then at the office. The office staff denied to talk to my insurance when I have the rep on the phone. I said it's fine. So I put the rep on the speaker phone and the rep told them the same thing and I should get pay $25. THe girl at the office was mad and did not agree so call her office manager. This manager is mean. SHe rejected to talk to the insurance rep and argued that the insurance is wrong. The rep then told them that they need to fix orelse it will be $25 rather than $35 at the specialist rate. After I hung up the phone with the rep, I gave me back the credit of $10 and the office manager told me that this will be the only time they will do it, next time, they still charged me $35 regardless what the insurance said.

I have made several complaints to Dr. Wood but it appeared that she could not controll them or not care at all. All the office want is money money. If they can rip you off, they will. If you do not follow up with your insurance when you have one, you are screw and they are making ton of money off from you. You all need to be careful. BTW, one year is pass, I still did not get pregnant and Dr Wood wants me to do different things when she was not sure if it helps or not. I have waste my money at this clinic. I would suggest that you do not go to this clinic.
