Sovereign Health Group Reviews

  • Apr 18, 2014

This place is a total fraud. When I first contacted them, the admissions people were so nice and made many promises of services that Never happended. Their website claims to provide state of the art care and it is far from that, if anything they put their patients lives at risk by their significant neglect, poor if any medication management, and failure to provide the mental health services the claim to provide.

After numerous conversations with admissions and leading up to travel and pick up arrangements, they treated me wonderfully. One my son was standing on the train platform looking for his pickup ride, I called back to follow up with driver, etc. This admission person was a new personality. All of sudden she wasnt to super freindly or helpful to me. THis was my first red flag that I ignored. He did get picked up and taken to their apts in culver city. From there it was total chaos.

My son did not get his meds for three days. I heard worse stories of other patients who were detoxing and not getting their meds and even one ended up at ER. Even when patients got their meds, they were often late. How a facility can continue to operate with such mis-managment medically of a patient is beyond me.

I was told that equine facility was at culver city location numerous times (that is where beds were open) as well as a gym. Well the equine is at San Clemente so that was a lie. The gym required patients to be driven and for what amounted to 1/2 hour in the early morning. That was a farce. Patients were hearded into vans (not great for those with panic disorders) and spend 45 minutes each way on Los Angeles freeways in stop and go traffic to get to the ""center"". One trip, the driver hit another car and left the scene never stopping with 8 patients in the van. He denied it ever happened to other staff who believed him (or tuffed under the rug) even with 8 witneses saying otherwise.

Weekend trips seemed to always involve long rides in the van on packed freeways, then upon arrival uch as at the art museum and the zoo, never transpired because they (staff) thought it was free or had the wrong credit card (AMEX) which the zoo wouldnt take. The disorganization and planning of these so called outing shows plain incompetence of the staff.

I was promised a DNA test that would provide results as to which medications would work with my son. After 2 weeks I began demanding it be done. Supposidly they took swabs but no results. The advanced care and the press release dated Jan 2014 promising to provide cutting edge care is downright a total lie. It is interns who lacked experience that were seeing the patients, half the time they werent seen and/or conference calls set up for family therapy never happened or were cut short.

They have promised to give me results of the dna testing but now dragging their feet. Ive requested billing statements and records and they appear to be giving me the run around on that.

Night managers were sleeping in apartments at night instead of watching what was going on. Food was horrible and consisted primarily of bulk food from cotsco, like rice krispy treats and according to my son a ""bunch of junk"" food. The food that was prepared (not often) was not all that much better and done by staff who had no cooking skills.

Being a mental health facility, you would think they would have high standards of care. It is a joke and falls so short of what I would consider theraputic in any way. My son is worse because of it. Staff is unqualified and the place has little if any organizational planning or professionalism being practiced. They sent me a bill for a $6 medication with no letterhead and just a persons first name typed on it. Later they charged our HSA card without authorization to do so for several medications. I authorized $350 for doctor exams upon initial entrance and now afraid they will try to charge additional fees not authorized. These guys are in the business of soaking insurance companies and people and do not provide the services or level of care they promise. They are liars, cheats and a fraud. Read the complaints on line about this place. I wish I had before I got sucked into their fancy website and promises.
