Spark Energy Reviews

My parents got aproch by someone from this Spark company. My parents don't speak english so they give my name and number. They told them it was for electricity not for gas. When I got the call they were so fast on the line that I ask them to go slow and explain and they say they were going to sent everything on the mail. I never received anything. They trick a lot of our neighbors too. My parents dont spend 30 dlls in gas. they only use about 10 to 15 dlls. why is this company tricking people to get their services is not fare.

I've read hundreds and hundreds of complaints about Spark Energy and I feel so misled, lied to, cheated, disrespected, violated and downright scammed that I can't believe how this company can remain in business in this country. My story is the same as all the other complaints on this website and all over the internet and I'm sure they will copy and paste their same "We are very sorry..." response to this complaint as they have with all the other people they screwed over in this forum and who knows where else. A female salesperson knocked on my door, even when I have a "No Solicitors" sign clearly posted and claimed she works in conjunction with my gas company - Southern California Gas Company.

She said she could save me money on my gas bill and I was very skeptical because the badge around her neck was turned around so I couldn't see it and I told her I wasn't interested and I was on a long distance phone call. She did not take no for an answer and said she could come back the next day so I agreed reluctantly. The next day she showed up and asked if she could see my gas bill in order to save me money. After reviewing my gas bill, she talked me into signing up. Almost two months later, I received 2 statements: one from Spark Energy for gas supply and one from my gas company for transportation... and it didn't add up. I was now paying double for my gas and I confirmed that I was only paying for transportation from my own gas company when a Spark Energy representative tried to shift the blame and claimed that my gas company was wrongly charging me for supply and transportation when in fact, they weren't.

Immediately I cancelled my account with Spark Energy and told them I WILL NOT PAY ANY cancellation fee of any kind and will fight them to the bitter end. I still have to pay Spark Energy 3 payments for gas supply, which if I can I will get it refunded back to me... they deserve to and should eat these payments. A number of my neighbors were also scammed by this company and since have filed complaints and have cancelled their contract with Spark Energy. After this, I'm filing a complaint against Spark Energy with the council of the Better Business Bureaus, which to no surprise Spark Energy is not a BBB accredited business. I'm also taking them to small claims court if I do not receive a full refund of everything under fraudulent misrepresentation in California. Spark Energy, in my opinion, is a disgrace to American businesses. Do NOT ever sign up with this company or you'll be here writing the exact same thing. BEWARE!

I am a small business owner.I am in retail food business and electrity cost can be subsantial part of my overhead w/ refrigeration and freezer runing 24/7. I signed a 24 month contract w/ spark energy at 8.13 cents per kilo watt hour to try and save a small amount of money running my business over my local electric provider peco. (phila electric company) .with the new contract peco sends you bill and collects the supply part of bill for electric company that you choose in this case i choose spark energy. all is well and good until you unknowingly let you contract run out and it goes to a variable rate. that when they kill you. you dont alway pay attention to the month that the contract runs out and think if it goes off fixed.theymight raise it a little till you renew back to fixed. But thats the trap a variable rate.Spark doubled my electric rate to over 16 cents per kilo watt as soon as it hit 25 month . theynever called about signing a new contract or send letter that your rates are going to double or even increase. they want to get you off contract so they can slam you for thousand of dollars and by the time you find out it may take at least 60 days to find new supplier or switch back to peco and have meter read. you cant even withhold money and try to dispute rate incease because peco will shut off your electric . there is no excuse for electric rates to double in 1 months time and spark will not do anything . even if you were a good customer for 2 years and offer to sign another fixed contract. they know got you for big money and dont care. by the time i got out of doubled rate and with another company my small business paid an extra $4100. dollars in electrity .thats alot of money they ripped me off. and i could have used that money for my sons college tution.. stay away from spark energy they are theives even the public utilitly commison, and office of consumer advocate, does not regulate or stop these ripp offs- goverment agency are incompedent

They use a door to door tactic to gain the trust of the home owner and then sabtogae their relationship with their current gas provider. Then when the obtruse in math is relaized, the gas bill is 3 times higher for the service than the savings. What makes this interesting is that the "door-to-door" sales person is tied to a qouta system and therefore uses a bait and switch method to not only confuse the homeowner but deceptively lie about the benefits, presenting them in a saturating content, that the homeowner - if they speak any english at all or are poor, sign up unknowingly that their gas bill will go up the second they sign the contract. A client that I represent through the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Compton fell victim to such an act in the following manner. They showed him a copy of information that discribed his bill with the local carrier. By using the same method of percentage dropping against the margin of the bill, they we're able to show him a number abitrary to the savings that he was supposed to have. When he got his first bill, it was back dated to the point of signature for one charge of $34.99 then forwarded another charge of $34.99, on top of that one, along with the charge from his local carrier, being that of Sempra Energy, ie: the local gas company. That came to $174.95 in less than 2 months! This was the same practice of the once mighty MCI Worldcom. That corporation folded from doing the same practices of home phone billing and look what happened to that. Even Sempra Energy denounced their affiliation request to add them on to his bill, yet they've repeatedly harrassed and threatend him, with phone calls at all hours of the day and night. Not only do they break the law doing their collection advocacy, they continue to generate bad publicity of these sales tactics that prey upon the very poorest of the poor, in Compton. Mostly minorities that speak very little english. To date, we have extended our services with Link Writerz to foward correspondance to the Los Angeles County District Attorney, the FBI Fruad Division and a litanny of comsummer advocate agencies, too long to list to bring down such crimminality and to bring this company to a point of responsibility in skirting through loop holes in the gregarious laws set by the EPA.

I live in San Diego California.

today a company called spark energy came to my home stating that SDGE was non-existent pretty soon and that I needed to give them my bill from sdge so that I can transfer over to them. they told me that their service would be WAY cheaper than SDGE and of course I fell for it im always looking ways to save money so I signed up but then I called them to find out how much my monthly bill would be. they told me it'd be around 40 bucks a month. my bill now for sdge is 18 and under. I canceled the service with them and called sdge.

sdge told me they were scam artists and that I would be receiving a bill from them if I kept the service plus from sdge. sdge also told me to call the Better Business Bureau and tell them what was going on. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and they told me that I needed to contact Houston Texas from which the company is from. Also to check with the city to see if they were breaking any other laws and also to report them with the Better Business Bureau online. they're going to people that are very low income. . SDGE is aware of what's going on and soon the BBB. So please beware
