Attempting a "reverse look-up", I agreed to a 7 day trial. I did not need, nor did I want, continued use (and because I have a tendancy to forget), I cancelled the subscription that same day. I received a confirming e-mail with cancellation details.

Big surprise ... I was billed $14.95 today. I called immediately, only to be told that I cancelled the 7 day trial period but that I did not cancel the monthly billing. It's two separate cancellations. Who would cancel a free trial? It isn't free, by the way, it costs $.95. They refused to credit my account.

No one should have to cancel things twice. It is just their way of getting money for nothing. Totally sneaky and unethical behavior. And I didn't even get the information I needed.

I signed up for the $5.95/month service for 6 months. It clearly stated $5.95/month. It did not say $35.70 upfront for 6 months of service/access. There is a huge difference. I signed up for $5.95/month expecting to be billed $5.95/month, instead I was charged $35.70. I was never told I would be charged $35.70, I was never presented with anything that said I would be charged $35.70, and moreover, I never approved or would have approved a charge of $35.70. WHY even use the words "$5.95/month" if there is no charge of $5.95/month being billed? IF they are going to charge $35.70 for 6 months of access then they should advertise "$35.70 for 6 months of service/access." By the way, I have screen shots of what I was signing up for. It clearly says $35.70 and there is NO indication or mention of a charge in the amount of $35.70.

Again, it was very clear that I was buying a $5.95/month subscription for 6 months.

I NEVER SAW TERMS OR AGREED TO TERMS THAT STATED $35.70 for 6 months of service.

I have filled a complaint with the BBB, I've written Spokeo.com. I want my money back asap. I want my service cancelled.

I want Spokeo.com to ADVERTISE $35.70 FOR 6 MONTHS OF ACCESS IF THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE SELLING. It's quite simple.

I attempted to search an unfamiliar phone number that had appeared on my cell phone caller id on this company's website, and after telling me at the outset that the owner's name and address were "available", and taking $9.95 from me (VISA debit card) for the search, they told me that the only new information they could provide is that the owner is "male".

I reported this bit of underhanded chicanery to their so-called "CustomerCare" e-mail address but I have not received any response.

This company took money out of my account without me telling too! On top of it, I do not even have a membership with the. So, the only way they could have gotten my information is from stealing. Its called fraud! Something should be done!

I found unauthorized charges on my credit card, discovered it was Spokeo and their crooked associates at Bizshark, told them to stop, wanted a refund and they refused. It caused a huge hassle with my bank.

I signed up for Spokeo to conduct a background check on an individual and their internet activity. The information was not thorough, information was incorrect, etc. If you wanted additional information on the individual you had to pay additional fees (i.e. $49.00 for court records). I signed up for $14.95 for 3-month service and then saw box for 30-day FREE service so I clicked on that box as well. My card was immediately charged for $14.95. When I called to cancel my account literally within 10 minutes, customer service advised that I initially signed up for $14.95 service and that is why my card was charged and they couldn't do anything about it. Spokeo is a total rip off. Stay away.

I was looking up a reverse number and spokeo said they had the full name. I paid .95 cents and then there was no name. I contacted and asked for a refund. No response yet, that was 4 days ago.

Second rip off: I was curious and searched on one of my children's cell phones to see if my name would come up. No, some random name in our area. OK so I searched on my cell phone... Hmm interesting: came up with another random name in my area.

Note: I have owned my cell phone number since 1997.

I decided to use Spokeo to look for a long lost friend. Not one piece of information they had for this person was correct. I looked up other people, including myself and other family members and there was not one corrrect report. Ages were wrong, addresses were 20 years old, phone numbers wrong or disconnected.

This company has nothing to offer you for your money. Do not pay them a dime!

As this particular subscription was initiated in 2013, my best guess is that you have subsequently changed your credit card, but retained the same bank, and thus the subscription was able to renew with a card that you no longer have.
