State Farm Insurance Reviews

  • Jul 10, 2015

I have State Farm Insurance and have had State Farm Insurance for roughly 2-3 years. I have them for my renters policy, autos, and my boat policy which covers my 2 Jet Skis and Trailer. My Jet Skis were dropped off at a local mom/pop mechanic here in town for an oil change and to change out a spark plug (I was not aware it needed the spark plug when I dropped it off). The oil was changed and during the 2 week period that they were at the shop evidently the mechanic's son took the skis out over water and severely damaged one of them. I was not aware they were water tested for an oil change, anytime I need to test the skis I hook a water hose up the connection under the seat and fire them up and let water run through them.

The damage was very severe and I was informed by the shop owner that he take care of it. I knew he was not insured therefore I contacted State Farm right away so I could get them repaired and if the boat mechanic was willing to pay for the damages then he could reimburse State Farm directly. State Farm refused to send out an adjuster, they informed me that this was not a requirement only a privelage of a Policyholder. They sent me on a wild goose chase trying to get estimates to have the fiberglass hull repaired. I dropped them off at several different places in which they sat for 2-3 weeks at a time only to be told that they cannot provide an estimate for the damage due to the severity of the fiberglass damage.

These jet skis were not being tested, they were being joy ridden by an intoxicated person, the level of damage cannot be done by simply bumping into a dock. The fiberglass hull was severely smashed in. This sik struck something very hard, from the side (which is difficult to do), and cracked the entire left side of the hull. Due to my hectic work schedule and State Farm's refusal to send out an adjuster it went on for many months before I found someone to write me an estimate. I immediately sent this estimate into State Farm and during the phone conversation I was told that they do not cover damage while the skis are under maintenance. The ski's were no longer at a shop, they were no longer being maintenanced, and they were over water at time of loss. Therefore I felt the need to tell my story about State Farm Insurance. Beware! I have read lots of State Farm Insurance Company Horror Stories and even witnessed them during their Shady Business Practices during Hurricane Katrina but from a perspective of never filing an insurance claim in my entire life and only having insurance for rare occurences such as this I felt no danger from having State Farm Insurance. Plus their rates were low, and evidently I know why......They don't pay claims when they are supposed to!

I called StateFarm back in december to make changes to my policy due to a divorce. It is now June and i receive a letter that they are canceling my insurance due to my ex wifes daughters suspension. I call them to see what is going on and they tell me policy is in her name, when both vehicles registration is in my name, also the vehicles. I have been paying insurance for 2 drivers for six months cause they never made the changes they were supposed to back in December. They tell me that im just listed on the policy as a driver when its my check they cash every month and she does not live with me.

On April 4, 2015 my fiance an myself were on his motorcycle heading to a funeral when we were cut off by a passing car we then swerved to try an not impact the vehicle we were then thrown off the bike were we called 911 the driver of the vehicle who cut us off left the scene the police came took our statements. we went to the hosiptol we were fine however in pain an scrapped up .state farm did not want to cover our damages and when told we had personal items damaged in the accident we had to file under renters insurance fine we can do that however our stupid agent never added my fiances name on the policy when we joined with them but we both were present at the time of getting statefarm. Now we have been waiting on a check for 4 weeks however we are still waiting for underwriting to add his name to the policy wich he should have been added to from the begining! As well now we are being told the motorcyle will cost too much to fix so now they rather salvage his bike instead of giving us $7500 to fix we still owe on the bike so now were faced with having to pay something off when we dont have the cash to do so. We were told we didnt have enough coverage thats why they dont want to cash us out bull, we had full coverage they didnt want to cover for a tow truck when we were told the day we switched over nomatter what happened they would tow us. im over state farm an there lies i should have just stayed with liberty mutual never again will i recomend state farm to anybody an Jake can go F himself

I had state farm insurance. I had just purchased a new vehicle, 2015 Ford Explorer Limited, fully loaded with a $51k MSRP with only 350 miles on it when I was rear ended by a driver who proceeded to flee afterward. So hit and run.

I am suppose to be covered under state farms diminished value insurance for this since even after the repairs my vehicle will never be worth what it was if it had never been damaged in a vehicle accident.

So I filed a claim with state farm for the diminished value and was told I would need to provide some evidence that the value had diminished. After reading around some suggested a good way to do that would be to get a quote from a Ford dealer and present that along with the KBB trade in value. This was suppose to be an easy way to demonstrate a clear cut diminsihed value claim.

After finally going back to the original dealer I purchased the vehicle from, they were willing to offer a value for the vehicle that they would purchase it for knowing that it had been in an accident. That amount had a difference of over $5,000 from what my vehicle would be worth if there was never an accident. This is simply because it's much harder to sell and customers prefer vehicles that have not ever been in an accident, ESPECIALLY on a brand new vehicle. Customers will not pay anywhere near what a clean vehicles typical selling price would be.

So I present this to Elise Jones, at State Farm claims adjuster that specializes in diminished value claims. She later comes back and says we will give you $500 and that is final...

I ask her to explain how $500 can possibly be fair, what was the forula to come up with this number and how State Farm justifies this. She explain that there was no formula and that since my vehicle did not susptain major frame damage that an arbitrator would only award this much based on her experience so that's all they had to pay even if my vehicle had diminished in value for far more.

So not only did what I provide have no bearing on their offer, they basically cannot even explain how the come up with their number other than it's typically what they're able to get away with for most customers.

This is a very dirty business practice and something needs to be done. State Farm does not care about it's customers or the losses they incur, just what they're able to get away with not paying out at the end of the day.

Stay away from State Farm with a 10ft pole because if you ever do have to file a claim you can expect that they will leave you holding the bag and forcing you to sue them and jump through hoops to get what you are owed.

Please feel free to message me if you want any more details. I have recorded phone calls and emails.

Cancellation of ALL State Farm policies as of December 31, 214. I understand that I will be refunded the amount paid for the year 2015.

Dear Sirs:

The result of State Farm agreeing to pay Mr. Miramontes $1,995 for a bodily injury claim involving a paint scrape, was the loss of my Good Driver Discount.

My experience with State Farm has been a learning experience. I have sat on the phone a total of half an hour, on two occasions waiting to reach State Farm’s Claims Department. State Farm’s Reconsideration Department was unable to answer my questions or keep me informed of the process.

The only feedback I received was the statement after the fact: “…we reviewed his medical records and bills in detail. The documentation showed services related to the date of loss and associated with the auto accident.” This from a paint scratch with three other people in the car and no one was aware that any contact with another automobile had occurred?

And most distressing was State Farm’s statement: “Although you did not indicate you were disputing the liability decision”. Then why did I file a reconsideration to contest bodily injury? Of course I am disputing this claim as I am not liable for BODILY INJURY over a paint scratch.

Effective December 31, 2014, please cancel policy #226 xx55 for my three automobiles effective December 31, 2014, and please cancel policy #87-xx-7 for residence and policy #90-xx-8 for my rental property.

If you need any additional information in order to cancel all of my policies with State Farm, an insurance carrier I no longer trust, please contact me.

I was in an accident that was not my fault. Their customer was the one how hit me. They did pay for repairs of my vehicle but I was out of work for a month. I am a mobile pet groomer. I work from my van. They played delay games from the start. First they were sending me paperwork for loss of income. A week later I had not received. I called and they told me there was no paperwork to fill out. I am talking to the same person each time. I refuse to talk to anyone else. That way I don't get the " who told you that". Which I did. I said I talked to her. I said if you don't have paperwork for me to fill out who do you know how much I make. She said I just need to ask you a few questions. I said don't you think that you could have asked me that a week ago. I answered her questions and she said the would call the body shop and see what the time frame would be. I did not hear from her and left a message the following Monday. No reply. After several attempts I had to call my insurance company to call them and put a fire under them. Then state farm called and left a message and said they needed my last row years tax returns. She left a fax number for me to fax in. I went to store to fax and what she gave me was a nationwide call number. I had to call that number to get a fax number. I called the following Monday to make sure they received the paperwork and what else they may need etc. I received no reply. Finally I had to call my insurance again to get them to call. Finally after a month state farm called and had a offer. Needless to say it wasn't even half my monthly wages. Their excuse was they did not want to cover my gas expense since I didn't work. I have a large van payment due to the van being customized. What they offered would barely cover that expense. State farm also said they put it in the mail. I turned it down. Which I never received anyway. It wasn't even minimum wage. So they ignored me until I again called my insurance. My insurance co called them and gave them what for. State farm called back and left a message and said she talked to her manager and had an even better offer. This offer was even less than the first offer. I called back and said no, it was worse the the first offer. I told her what I wanted, which was my income. I sent in more paperwork to show my income. I said gas expenses should have nothing to do with my income. If they want to be that way they should add in my van payment and cellphone bill since they are business expenses and still have to be paid even if I don't work. No I don't expect them to pay those. I just want my income so I can cover my bills with what would have been my income. They have ignored me since. I call my insurance company and they are ignored them now. I will be contacting the Florida state insurance commissioner regarding this matter. If they treat their paying customers the way they do I am not surprised they would treat someone who is not a customer any better.

State Farm insurance will not pay a claim NO MATTER what. They make it completely impossible to file a claim. They expect you to absorb the cost of their policyholders destruction. Endless hours on hold. Ridiculous demands to have a claim filed. The entire company is nothing but criminals. Now I know how they pay for all of those annoying commercials.....they NEVER pay a claim! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

The accident occured on 10/24/2912 around 8pm and both vehicles were moved to a nearby parking lot.

Report was written by Dep.Chris Dahrens of Shelby Co. Al. PD, Driver of other vehicle was William A Connell insured by Nationwide Ins. The narrative written by officer in the report is as follows;

Quote: On 10/24/12 I responded to a motor vehicle accident that happened on East Inverness Pkwy. When I arrived both vehicles had been moved into the Wendy's parking lot. I asked Leo Zaidan the driver of unit 1 what happened and he stated he thought there was only one lane on his side of the road and when he turned into the Wendy's parking lot a vehicle struck him in the front passenger bumper. I asked William Connell the driver of unit 2 what happened and he stated he was in the right lane and Mr. Zaidan was in the left lane. He said Mr Zaidan turned right from the left lane in front of him. He stated he did not have time to stop befor their vehicles made contact. Mr. Zaidan's vehicle had damage to the front passenger bumper and Mr. Connell's vehicle had damage to the front drivers bumper. Both vehicles were driven from the scene. There were no injuries reported at the scene. (A not to scale drawing was included)

An error I see right off in the report is the fact my vehicle has damage to passenger side fender right above tire, not on bumper. I went to investigate the scene and measured the width of right lane and found it to be 13ft.1in. to a broken line (road marking) there was an additional solid white line marking 9in. away making the total width 13ft.9in. and whe I compared it to the width of both vehicles I found the lane was wide enough to accomodate both vehicles. Mr. Connell's statement that I was in the left lane is false. I pursued the matter in court and he avided a subpoena. I have informed both insurance companies through letters and drawings and both companies refused my claim. State Farm, my ins. co., even added a surcharge to my bill for a minor accident that only left some paint on the other vehicles bumper.

Incidentally, when I investigated the scene, there was a long streak of fresh tire marking on the curb which I suspect came from other vehicle as the driver tried to squeeze past and I informed my agent but I am not sure if she checked on it. And the reason I went wide to make a turn befor accident occured was there was road markings that made it seem the curb stretched out and was too close to the building. I don't think I should be penalized for this. I would not be pursuing this matter after 2 years if I didn't think I was right. I have been in other accident were I was severely injured so I am a cautious driver. I also have a degree in engineering since 1979, and the denial to my claim by the ins. co's. leave me baffled.

On September 15,2015 I made my car insurance payment to State Farm 7010 N.

Durango Dr., Ste 110 Las Vegas, NV 89149 via over the phone with Jessica Manuel. She double checked and made sure that my policy was still good and took my payment and

even email me a receipt. On September 25,2014 I received a phone called from

Vanessa who stated that my policy was actual canceled and a refund check was

being mailed to me that day for the $202.00 that I paid. She didn't explain

why it took almost another week before they would tell me this instead of

that day or the next. Therefore she stated in order to stay with State Farm

I would have to pay for another policy because they could not apply the

funds they already had since they were mailing it back and I had to start a

new policy. I advise her I will wait for my refund before giving them

anymore money.By September 30, I still hadn't received my refund, so she

stated give it a few more days, By October 6,2014 after receiving a demand

for payment in the mail dated October 1,2014 and a phone call from Joanna

Villatoro, my agent I became upset letting her know your company can ask me

for money even through you canceled me, but can't refund my money from

September 15,2014. She apologize and said it was nothing she could do and if

I didn't receive it by October 15,2014 the underwriting team would cancel it

and regular mail me another check. I asked her to overnight it, because

waiting for regular mail when the first check never arrive would be

stupid. She just repeated there is nothing she can do, I asked for her

corporate office, she gave me the runaround I asked her for the check# she

never gave me the information, I asked her to refund it back on my credit

card she said they can't do that., On October 16,2014 I spoke with Jessica Manuel, now they are saying the mailed it to the wrong address and will overnight me a new check, yet still refuse to give me the tracking#, the check#, or even who the overnight carrier is.

"State Farm commercials says how friendly they are and Like a good neighbor." I do not believe they mail or will mail me a refund, since no one seems to be able to give me a check# a overnight address, the corporate office for complaints the tracking#, Nothing. When I told her I was filing a compliant she didn't even care.I want everyone to know State Farm dropped me yet is keeping my money, what kind of friendly neighbor is that?

I am not one to take the time and effort in writing something like this, but when I feel so strongly about an injustice, morally and ethically such as my issue, I feel it is imperative that I inform the consumer in the hopes that they can avoid the same issue. I have lived in NC for the last 7 years and when I moved here we had secured insurance with Erie for both our home and auto. No issues here. Erie is a great insurance agency. However, over the last last 2 years, rates on both had been inching up and up. As expected, we know this happens in the insurance industry due to national catastrophes, etc. However, after the last renewal and increase my wife and I decided it may be time to go out on the marketplace and see if we could shop for insurance and lower our rates. We contacted the local office for State Farm ( Wilfredo Martinez, State Farm Insurance, 203 N. Broome St., Suite C, Waxhaw, NC 28173. I discussed with Ms. Eilleen Torres ( office manager ) our insurance needs and we were on the phone for some time summing up the details....how many drivers, ages, driving record, cars, etc. She quoted me a 6 month rate of $955.60. I accepted it and submitted a binder of $250.18. Please note that only $159.27 went to auto the remaining balance went to my homeowners policy. This dispute is not with the homeowner’s policy. The binder was paid on July 16, 2014 and the auto policy was to go into effect on 12:01AM, July 20th. Fifteen days later I received a letter from some review agency that works for State Farm saying my coverage and my quote would not be honored. In fact the letter lacked even the least bit of etiquette. I never received a letter like this in my life and I have been driving for over 40 years. I showed it to my wife and she about panic because as a lay person it seemed to indicate we had no insurance and they weren't honoring any coverage. We went into panic mode and called Ms. Torres the next day and told her what we received. She was even surprised by the letter. Let me insert something here. The letter indicated that if I want a full report on the review I would have to pay $100.00 for it, but it did indicate that the reason was because my daughter and my son had not been driving for 5 years. That is actually incorrect my daughter has been driving for 6 years ( no accidents, tickets ) and my son yes, was only driving for 4 ( no accidents, tickets ). Eilleen Torres new this when we were working up the quote. When I called her the next day about the letter I asked her "did I not supply you with this information when we discussed this" and she said "yes, you did"? She also added I plugged that information into the computer and came up with the rate I quoted you. I don't know why they changed it

Now here is where it gets interesting. I asked her what does this mean am I driving with no coverage. She advised me I am covered, but I will have to pay $160.00 more and my son will be dropped down to a Tier II level with reduced coverage. It also affected my homeowner’s coverage because now I had a $2500 deductible instead of $1000. She tried to explain that, but it made no sense to me. I told Ms. Torres this is not acceptable and please cancel my insurance effective that midnight. This would have taken effect on Aug. 6th. Therefore, I had 17 days of coverage. I asked her would I be prorated and get a refund for the difference I wasn't covered for and she said "yes". I waited, and waited, and waited for a check to come in the mail. I did the math and I should have received a check for approximately $70.00. When I didn't receive one I called Ms. Torres again and she advised me that I was short charged and would not receive a refund. I didn't even know what "short charge" meant since she never advised me of this when I cancelled and I asked her where does it say that? She told me to read my policy. I told her I never got one. Which I never did and she was surprised by that. I was never informed of this verbally or in writing. I asked her for literature that shows this. I came to the office and she printed it out. It's in the "A Consumer's Guide to Automobile Insurance from your NC Department of Insurance”. Now here is my dispute, on page 15 it sates, Pro-Rata Cancellation...”this type of calculation is used when the company cancels your policy. It will generate your refund, without any penalty for canceling during the policy period". Short Rate Cancellation...”this type of cancellation may be used when the policy is cancelled by you or by a premium finance company. It will generate your refund minus a penalty for canceling during the policy period. The penalty amount varies according to the total premium and the amount of time left in the policy period". State Farm cancelled my policy, I didn’t. By not honoring what their representative in Waxhaw quoted which was accurate and complete meant they cancelled the policy. Let me ask you something, if this was you and you had called back and Ms. Torres told you it was going to cost $1000.00 more to be insured with State Farm, would you do it? This was nothing short of extortion. I cannot say with any certainty if this was a mistake by Wilfredo Martinez State Farm Insurance or just an indiscriminate policy that State Farm decided to apply, but I want to forewarn others of this potential pitfall and make an informed decision on where and who should supply your next insurance needs. By the way, I did secure auto insurance with Geico and now have better coverage then my original quote and $100.00 cheaper.

I don't know when I have ever been so angry.

State Farm has sent a letter saying that I have been judged "at least 51% responsible" for a collision where the other driver pulled out from behind another vehicle after I was already in the street, gunned his engine while looking down (the sun was shining toward him and I never saw his face, just the top of his head) and hit me at a speed well in excess of the speed limit (even after hitting me and spinning me around he still had enough momentum to go over the curb, rip up a tree, go over the retaining wall of our garden, and stop only when he finally hit the car in the neighbor's driveway).

And since State Farm also decided in 2000 to settle with a woman who had made an obviously fraudulent claim, I have come to an ugly surmise:

It's cheaper to let people with the youth and strength to lie and keep lying cheat ill, older customers than it is to fight false claims.

PLEASE REPOST THIS. VALERIE AND I CANNOT BE THE ONLY VICTIMS OF THIS ABUSE, AND THE ONLY HOPE WE HAVE OF REDRESS IS A CLASS-ACTION SUIT.
