Stillwater Apartments Reviews

  • May 12, 2015

Oh where do I even begin. Me, my wife, and my 2 year old daughter moved into stillwater apartments March 8,2015. We were living with a friend at the time and needed a place of our own and came across Stillwater apartments. When we came to tour the complex everything looked great! The outside was kept up, pool cleaned, and playgrounds for the little. They even have security that patrols every night they said, seemed GREAT. We asked to view a model or a vaccant apartment and were told there were none available the time. As time got further pressed we decided to rent an apartment from them. When we went to the office Tina the lady at the desk was very reassuring that living here would be not only safe, but clean and well managed and if we had ANY problems they would be delt with accourdingly. We were SO wrong.

Once we moved into the, not ready last minute prison cell the threw us into, I IMMEDIATELY started noticing problems. (Paint peeling, LOUD a/c, ceiling fan almost falling apart, broken counter tops/flooring, cockroaches ect;) So made a list and planned to take it to the office the following morning. The next morning a wake up to the sounds of keys opening my front door. I immediately got up to see whos walking through my front door and to my surprise its a maintenance worker. He quickly apologizes and says he needs to go talk to his boss then he will come back. Never says his name or comes back. During all of this my indoor cat is let out and runsaway never to be seen again.

So now frustrated I go to the office file a complaint and ANOTHER work order (ours was "lost"). So, feeling confident the apartment management would take care of the issues I go home. The next morning I wake up to find my top lock unlocked as if they tried to re-enter that morning. Extremely upset now I go to the office and demand that my deposits be return seeing as how my 2 year olds distraught because her pets now gone because of poor management skills. Also not the easiest thing to explain. They FINALLY after 2 weeks of dragging there feet give us our non refundable deposit (put towards rent) but have to hold the other til we move. That Wednesday the burns pest guy was supposed to come spray, bait, and fog our apartment. Never showed. So we went to the office again brought up the issues again, also mention our fridge is now breaking, and told her bug guy never showed. She said she would make curtain we were sprayed next weds and she would send someone immediately for the a/c, ceiling fan, cracks in bathroom and fridge.

Needless to say the buy guy didnt spray for the first month, and the maintenance worker that came to inspect the a/c (same man that walked through my door our first day) along with other issues did NOTHING. He scrap a slap or puddy on 1 of 15 messed up paint spots, tightened the breaking arms on the fan, and left saying he needed parts once again to leave and never return, mind you this was 2weeks after putting in 5 work orders to the office all of which got "lost" So after about a month of dealing with this none stop, they finally send out robert, a new maintence man too look at fridge and fix cracks in counters. Muds counters and bathroom. Says someone should be by to let us know about fridge. Next day another maintence worker shows up and says well be getting new fridge that day that he be back 30-40min before so we could remove food, then never came back. The next day around 15-20 min before the office closes they show up puzzled were not ready for the new fridge.

So I scrammble to move everything out of fridge and actually end up removing fridge from kitchen by myself. I then decided to call pinnacle living and go above the offices head and get results on everything else.. Wrong again! They wrote a report to mary the office manager here at stillwater and sent her a list of what was going on (Which because of the stressful situation and lack of sleep from cockroaches and thundering a/c keeping my 2 year old awake wasnt complete.) The following day mary calls and sends out (you guessed it) the SAME maintenance man to fix a/c and now toilet which broke. He fixs a/c and toilet and then quickly leaves before fixing anything else. Mary calls burns and has bug guy come out to emergency spray for roaches but he barly shows up does nothing but schedule an appointment for Wednesday may 13th 2015. Then that sundays may 9th mothers day, my wife and I are woken up by 2 loud crashes into the wall only to realize our ceiling fan has ripped itself apart leaving one small dent, one fan blade stuck directly into the wall, and one right next to my sleeping daughter. Honestly I could go on and on about how horrible this experience has been. Im exhausted. Ive spent 100% my time in this apartment taking care of things no tendant should have to do.

I have tried doing this by myself. Seeming as were extremely poor we cant move or pay for a lawyer and are stuck. I write this in hope that someone will see it and help me take care of this horrible business. If you read this please DO NOT trust pinnacle! They will say what they have too, but once you sign the lease your on your own.

The Stillwater Apartment Complex was one of the many complex's I was looking at for my very first Apartment by myself. I'm 20 years old and have no experience in apartment searching nor did I have too much time. The place looks nice on the outside. The price was decent and the model apartment that i was shown was nice. I was extemely wexcited to move in. On my move in date, I showed up with the intent of paying a pro-rated rent for the 20th thru the 1st of May. April 20th I arrived to sign the contracts and pay the payment. I was on a time limit and had called in advice about the information and things that I was required to have upon arrival.. They had nothing ready for me and told me I had to have the pro-rated rent money in a money order. I had to then turn around go to Wells Fargo get a money order and was an hour late to work by the end of all of it. After work I stopped by to take a better look at things since I hadnt in my rush of getting everything done earlier that day. I was never shown this apartment by the staff nor did they offer a "walk through" and being my first apartment I didnt know what that was anyways.

That night i noticed trash and an infestation of roaches everywhere. They were in the sinks, on the walls, and floors. I told them the following day and they said they would have someone spray the next day and I told them I will not finish my move until they were done. Two days later, On April 22nd they sprayed. I arrived the 23rd to see how my apartment looked. There was now 2x as much roaches of all sized dead and alive. I told another person in the office the situation and she said they would send somone in the next day, again, to clean them up. So 4 days into this nothing had been cleaned and the roaches continued to crawl. On the 7th day I told the assistant manager, Mary or Maria, the situation and that i wanted the pro-rated rent to be refunded or moved to the next month since by the end of April I was STILL NOT moved in and was not living in the filth they left me with. She said she would let someone in upper management know and that she WOULD call me later that day. I specifically requested a phone call to be made to me about the situation. When I did not recieve a call, i tried to call the office multiple times and they would not answer. Like they never do. I had no chose but to ask to break the lease by April 30th. The manager told me I would have to give a 60 day notice, not considering any of my complaints or issues since Day 1. By the end of this I had talked to everyone in the office, both managers, I was completely ignored.

My first nice of sleeping there May 1st I realized how bad the roaches were because i was spraying bug spray all night until 4am trying to kill all of the roaches that were crawling through cracks, on the walls, and through the sinks. Thats when I refused to make the first months rent and want to break the lease. I lso had to throw away all my linens and mattrresses because of the baby cockroches found on them. This has caused me more hell and misery as I work 50 hour weeks at Frys Pharmacy trying to move by myself. I have no family in the area to help me. My first apartment experience has been TERRIFYING. I feel taken advantage of by the staff for not having experience. I need them to break my lease, at the least, if not get my money back also. I would like you to show the world how disgusting this place is.
