Sunny View Medical Center Reviews

If you are looking for a doctor who honors the Hippocratic Oath and has good patient/bedside manners - steer clear of this "gentleman." He has been described to me as the "Owner and Managing Doctor" of the Sunny View Medical Center and apparently this means that he can do whatever he wants without consulting with the paitent.

In my case, instead of sending a test to the same lab that all my other tests ahve gone in the past 2+ years, he ships it across the country to a lab that is not covered by my insurance, which results in a large bill to me from the lab. I get a "heads up" report from my insurance saying I will be responsible for this bill because no referral had been sent in to them before the test was done and also because this lab was "Out of network." On top of this - this guy is not even my designated doctor!

So I call the clinic up, on the advice of the insurace company, to see if I can get a referral sent in so that insurance will cover a portion of the bill. First I get the referral department and they tell me that they will see what they can do about getting that paperwork done but they will have to get permission from the doctor first. Then I ask why the test was sent out instead of the regular in-state lab. They transfer me to Mr Corcoran to get that answer and that is where the conversation tanked. I asked him why he sent the test to a lab that I did not know and did not consent to and tried to tell me I had consented. I told him; "no, I have never heard of this lab and the first I heard of it was when my insurance would not cover the test." Then he tries to tell me that the local lab did not do the kind of test ordered and that he can send the samples "wherever he wants to" without talking with me. I proceed to tell him that if he is going to stick with that excuse he can just pay the cost himself. Now he starts arguing with me about what he can and cannot do "because he owns this medical clinic."

After I had hung up I called the lab that did all my other tests and they tell me "of course we do that test - lots of them come through here." So now this doctor has lied to me. I called back this week to find out what they have done to address this improper billing and I get told that "as of June ** you are no longer a patient at this office." Apparently he has told my actual doctor that I will not be allowed to use him as my primary physician anymore! And of course no one bothers to let me know this has happened. I am no spring chicken and this is the first time I have EVER been "fired" from a doctor! I didn't know this was even possible!

So if you are in Phoenix, AZ and looking for a family practice physician, do not rely on the "Phoenix Magazine Best Doctor's list" where Dr James P Corcoran IV is listed because he probably bought that listing! Run the other way because if you question his decisions he'll get angry and you might be fired!
