Sunrise Camping Center Reviews

  • Apr 11, 2015

We purchased an RV from Sunrise Camping Center in late October 2014. Since it was past camping season and we were not planning to use the camper until spring, we asked the service manager if the camper had been winterized. He said it was. The camper went into storage for the winter. Prior to our first trip, we thought it would be a good idea to flush the water lines. Low and behold....water everywhere. The toilet valve was broken and the water pump was spewing water everywhere. No sign of winterization fluid in the lines. Of course they are denying theu told us us the camper had been winterized and we are on the hook for all repairs. I should have known that this company was inefficient from the start. After giving them a check for the payout to Bank of America, I received a call from BofA asking why my payments were 2 months in arrears. They held onto the check and not until I called and reminded them they were responsible for the payoff as well as any late fees and threatened a lawsuit for damage to my credit report did they complete the payoff. Not at lot happy with this company. Consumers beware.

April 12th put downpayment on new Model #1285SST Coachmen Clipper camper and finalized all paperwork on April 15th in the late afternoon. We were assured everything would be checked out and cleaned and prepped and that we would be very happy.

The afternoon we went to pick it up, it was raining badly here and when we were driving home, I noticed out of sideview mirror something looked odd with the slideout as if it was not closed tight or sealing. I got off road into parking lot and pushed unit in tight as I could to assure it was latched and that rooftop was fully closed over it. We even sent e-mail to the GM as he told us to if we ever needed anything and we never heard from him.

We had to leave a couple days later for a 4 day reservation already booked, and when we arrived at beach campsite, noticed slideout seemed to be off track or not square when we opened it and setup camp. Then, when we hooked up water, all of sudden massive flood happened under sink cabinet which we isolated to the hot water tank, where both hot & cold fittings leaking at the cast iron tank as well as a pex joint. So I had to go 40 miles to closest hardware store to do a temp fix and isolate hot water lines so we at least had cold water. We did manage to reach dealership too about this and they only said ""do what you have to to fix it and see us when you get back"". Then we found hosts of other problems which were more like poor quality construction and defects to be honest, as if this camper was some sort of fast-built dealer demo unit not really meant to be on the highway or used safely. It all just made us angrier after all the money we are financing on this and just having this a few days. I had to repair a bad low voltage connection on the galley safety switch and even the A/C circuit finding very poor electrical splice in a junction box, leak on propane line, a lot of metal shavings all over the slider rails and matress areas, etc... All of this taking many hours away from my family's time and this short getaway we had planned.

All the way back we worried to death about this slideout and if it would come out on the Interstate and cause an accident or kill someone to be honest. We tried reaching the GM and others via leaving messages on their phones and could do nothing till we retruned on the 25th. On Saturday, April 26th, we opened camper and took all our stuff out, called dealership a couple times in which one time my wife was crying and so upset at the many problems with this. She took camper back late that day to drop off as earlier calls to them from myself, (and a detailed list of all the problems with this camper), I told them we do not want this camper nor feel safe with towing it and for them to do what is right and undo the contract, as under contract law, any contract can be null & void if the dealership failed to disclose problems or issues prior the sale, and seeing this slideout unit defective as it was definitely could have seen us killed on the road! This is no little thing and I demanded they undo everything and return our monies and clear out the financing deal with Ally Finanacial who was the lender.

As my wife dropped unit off Saturday (26th), she called me crying and upset and mad saying they refused to take it off the hitch unless she signed some legal work order to do only repairs. I was outraged hearing this and called them from my work as we do not want this and will NOT finance a brand new unit with major repairs and such a bad product for so many months and told them to either get new unit from manufacturer or else cancel contract and return all monies. They laughed and mocked me on phone even knowing I was mad and upset and I am so sick of such shoddy workmanship and defective product and how this dealership now acts to us after the sale and they got their monies. This needs to be stopped and they need to take responsibility as this with the slideout alone could have killed people on the highway. There should be NO TYPE of warranty or other major repairs done to a supposed brand new 2014 unit as this one was claimed to be. We DO NOT feel safe in this after the slideout started to come out on the highway. We did some research and found a lot of other complaints filed against the same product and manufacturer as well which only adds to our demise.

I already have call into Coachmen Corp too to either step up and replace this defective unit with a ""known"" new one or else face criminal product liability charges and called my lawyer to meet ASAP on this as this dealership all of a sudden acts as if nothing matters now, and they have no responsibility nor can they be touched legally in any way scoffing me when I told them this is what will occur, and now after the sale was made and even tried to turn it around on us saying we didn't give them enough time to prep the unit. They had 4 days to do so and promised us everything would be exceptional- it was not! They did not do a dammn thing it is evident and ""someone"" at the dealership must have known it was not checked over as they promised to do at the sale or that the slider was defective.
