Sunset Group Reviews

We had purchased ""60 weeks"" plus 10 weeks. We found out that the contract related only to the 10 weeks, which were only mentioned in passing. All the haggling on the price of between 60 and 90 weeks. Via I.C.E., we found out that the ""60 weeks"" do not exist anywhere.

We were promised a ""platinum"" membership, but on I.C.E. website, we only have a ""basic"" membership without any possibility of exchanging weeks.

We were promised a cruise in either the Caribbean or Alaska staying in either a window or balcony suite. The actual certificate promises nothing of the sort, and no Alaska.

In summary, we did not receive anything near what we had purchased.

Bottom line: stay away from Sunset group marketing!

We took a vacation at the Hacienda Tres Rios.

We also took the timeshare tour because they promised us a free ride back to the airport ($200 for two people) and massages.

After a vacation day lost and a lot of pressure, we signed the contract. We really wanted to be able to check it out first, but in the place where you end up there is no internet! You need a special code to get internet access. They said that this is because if you have time outside the tour it could be suspicious (like you made a private deal with the representative etc...).

If all they told us would have been true it would have been an alright deal. The place is very beautiful and the people who worked there where very nice. However, coming back home, we made some phone calls and checked the internet and most of it wasnt true.

So we wrote two letters (back in December 2012) and send them per express mail (within the allowed 5 days to cancel - mentioned in the contract). We also send emails. We also called by phone. The person there told us that someone would call us back - they never did. So we called back a few times (after we got the email from the express mail with the signatures of the people who received the letters and signed for them) - told them that we know they have them, that its within the 5 days and that we want to cancel and get back our deposit. After lots of more phone calls and oh, you have to talk to sonandso, not to mes someone told us that the refund was scheduled for February 1st. It was way later than the 15 days that they get according to the contract to refund, but, with the Holidays etc we thought we give them the time. But the 1st came and went and NOTHING!

So we went to PROFECO (Mexican Consumer Protection Agency) and filed a Report with them. At the date when we had the Interview they (Sunset Club) didnt even show, they just had a representative (lawyer) call in. So, with the profeco person as a witness, a agreement was struck that they have to pay us back and send us something saying that the contract is indeed canceled. They where given over 15 days to pay us back.

Two of those days are remaining - they still didnt pay us. I hope they will. If not we will have to take this to court.

We just want to warn everyone. These people are not honorable. We really do not understand why a company has to resort to such dishonest measures - some deals might not be bad - some people might actually be happy with their deal. But why no honor the contract and refund the people who do everything according to the law and the contract to get out of it because they where lied to by the timeshare seller (or just because they want to - its their right)?
