Save-A-Lot stolen shopping carts left abandoned on my street, Eagan Drive in Lackawanna, New York. For over the last year I've been pleading with Executive Vice President ,Kelly Sneed(314-264-9087) about doing something to permanently prevent people from stealing their shopping carts off their property. Save-A-Lot 1234 Abbott Road Lackawanna N.Y. 14218,( 716)-822-3402. These stolen shopping carts end up abandoned on my street Eagan Drive on a constant daily basis. I want to give some background and context for my complaint.

Initially I naturally held those people that live on my street criminally liable for these acts. I even had sympathy for Save-A-Lot for their predicament. However after suggesting viable methods of proactively preventing criminals from stealing Save-A-Lot's property; from installing surveillance cameras that target the parking lot to replacing their current shopping carts with ones that have a built in wheel locks, my pleas have been met unheard. I have had to content with the local store owner's promise (Kevin Connelly )that he would patrol my street on a daily basis to remove any abandoned shopping carts.

I've had to live with that forced arrangement until today. After repeated telephone calls to the local store owner and Kelly Snead's office, the situation has become intolerable. In the last 4 days ,instead of Save-A-Lot removing the one or two shopping carts on the street, their are now 4 shopping carts on my street.(There maybe more as the days go by.) I have no other choice but to file this complaint with Save A-Lot. I also need to make something fundamentally clear. The local store owner admitted that cost is the main factor for him not being able to replace his shopping carts with those that are foolproof.

However I did get an admission from Kelly Snead that her corporate office does have the funding to resolve this ongoing problem. That is why I'm filing complaints against both the corporate office as well as the local store owner.Save-A-Lot Corporate may not have the legal obligation to resolve this ongoing problem but they certianly have the moral obligation. It's their company name and logo on the side of the building. The public will not make any distinction between local and coporate. In the public's perception, they are both Save-A-Lot and both are liable.

Your Desired Resolution:

The only way to prevent these shopping carts from leaving the Save-A-Lot property is to replace them with ones that have wheel locks similar to what other supermarkets use. Save-A-Lot's main competition ,Aldi's requires customers to rent the carts by placing a quarter in a key lock to be returned once the customer is finished using the cart. Is Save-A-Lot suggesting that their main competitor Aldi's is smarter than they are? Maybe I will take my business to Aldi's?If the local owner does not have the funding ,I demand the corporate office intervene. Save-A-Lot has a poor image and reputation in our community. You are welcome to forward my complaint to any other relevant government or consumer agencies.
