Tahoe Industries Reviews

I was approached by the same sales pitch in 2009at a fleamarket in Summerdale Al.a guy comes up in a pick-up,loaded with the same item's,this one claimed he was looking for a crontactor at this address that had ordered these item's,he said he could not take the item's back to the store, since he was a third party salesman and he was stuck with this merchandise, and he was willing to take 5k for all of it just to get it out off his hand's,so I agreed thinking I had a once in a lifetime deal,I went home to do some research on my "gold mine",found out the best I could possiblly do was break even.

I got on the internet and tracked down "Tahoe Industries",a gentelman answered the phone,he claimed he could not take back item's from a third party distributor, all sales final!,after a bunch of haggling, threat's and anything else negative that can be done on the phone, he finally agreed to buy the item's back for $4200,I countered with sending back all item's except the generator,he agreed, next morning the same "salesman" showed up in the same pick up,very upset, telling me I was taking food out of his kid's mouth, bla, bla bla,He tried to take the generator, claiming his boss would never sell a generator of this caliber for $800,(boss? I thought you were a third party, and did not work for Tahoe?) he left in a near rage, surely worrying about feeding his children,I suggerted selling his truck to get the 5k back,I still felt cheated out of $800,until I did some research on the generator,it is a 9k running,10k surge, dual fuel electric start generator, granted it is a "Honda Clone",in2009 it was worth about $1400,now,over 2k,at that time there were not a lot of these "Honda clone engine's and generator's around, now they are 80% of the portable generator market, and have proven quite reliable, (remember when Datsun's and Toyota's first came to this country?,cheap Japanese junk, now there is one on every corner, and don't say they are made here now, that may be true, but where does the profit go?,we supported the Japanese, now we support the Chinese,I know, this is not a political forum) I have used this generator 3 times, (once, after hurricane Katrina, I live on the Alabama gulf coast, generator's are a necessity down here),it powered my whole house, and with everything shut off it would run my central a/c without a whimper,it might do it with everything in the house on,but I didn't want to risk overloading it...it would run 12-16 hours on a tank of gas, another 12 using propane, with 20 gallons of gas and 40 pound's of propane, comfort on Mar's is possible.

I certainly don't approve of their sales tactic's,they did sell me a good generator, they probably did not know that at the time,I think they import container loads of these thing's,then get nervous when they have not sold, and are scared a Chinese leg breaker will come after them (just my opinion) I have purchased two more chinese generator's with good result's,one of them self-destructed when I dropped the governor shaft down in the engine,it seized up as well as any other generator, sometimes my stupidity has result's,just not good one's,in a nut shell, their business practices are shady at best, however a person should not expect to buy $8000 worth of equipment for $5000,there is only one "Brooklyn Bridge",if it is for sale,I don't think a con artist in a pick up will be selling it.bottum line, they taught me a lesson,I don't buy donuts without having names, address, and finger print's of of the seller's children.
