I had a problem setting up my Roku device and TechRoger's number came up on a Google search for help with Roku. A man named "Vinny" helped me by having me allow him to gain access to my computer by my downloading an application called "TeamView". After he had gotten into my computer, he actually fixed the problem I was having with Roku but he also found a very "serious" problem. According to Vinny, 2 servers had hacked into my home network and could access all the information on the computers in the network. He said that TechRoger could get rid of this problem and guaranty no further intrusion for 3 years for $399.95. I told him that I wasn't prepared to commit myself to spending $400 at this time and I wanted to see if I could verify what he was telling me before I take action.

After a little more conversation, Vinny asked me "How much can you afford to pay?" I knew then that there was a good chance I was being scammed. A reputable company does not operate this way. I thanked Vinny for his help and told him I would think about it.

I then did a search for review for TechRoger and came upon this site where I found several others who had be scammed by this company. This confirmed for me that my suspicion had foundation. Fortunately, I did not fall for it.

Although Vinny was into my computer via "TeamView", I could see what he was doing at all times. My important information is always protected and it looked as though he really didn't know what he was doing other than elevating my level of concern about the alleged intrusion into my home network and its devices.

I learned the hard way that Roku has only one support site that Roku owners should vist:

My name is Pat, I was having trouble with the Roku streaming device and a called a number 1-877-937-1377 that was listed under the Roku main number and later found out it was really named Tech Rogers, LLC or Instant Roku Support. They were unable to fix my Roku without getting direct access to my computer as I was having some other issues that day I went ahead and let them "fix" my machine I was told my problem with the Roku was that someone hacked into my network and was trying to steal my information, banking and important things. He showed me a long list of problems and said it was a trojan that sent messages back to those people and that he would delete all of that but it was $170.00 to have it fixed. I was so upset that I did not realize that I was speaking to a scam artist and I agreed to let them fix it. After two hours on the phone while he had access to my computer the Roku was again fixed but as I thought about it I have an anti-virus on the computer and I had no other problems other than the Roku and last time I talked with Roku and it needed fixed it was fixed for fee. When they called me back I realized it was not coming from Roku at all and when I questioned it I was told not to worry that they had gotten rid of all of the bugs. The I went to a site on the computer called "Live" and saw the same number that I had called and they had a similar experience only it was for a Kindle. I then called my charge card company and stopped the payment and as I had a credit at Amazon they had sent them a gift certificate for the some of the bill and Amazon sent it to a [email protected], which is probably a private person. I was more worried about them being able to steal from me as they now knew the insides of my computer. So I want everyone to be aware of this scam. I am told they now have access to everything and will come back later and get into my banking accounts.

Roku said they never would have charged me at all and it could have been fixed without ever going to the computer.
