Tempe Honda Reviews

  • Nov 20, 2014

My wife and I were at Tempe Honda on Sunday 11-16 to try to purchase a Honda Accord V-6 Coupe. We had a vehicle to trade and went through the evaluation process for that. I told our Sales Rep that the only number that I was interested in is the out the door difference between my trade and their car. I was explicitly clear as this is approaching the 20th car that my wife and I have purchased together and communication often seems to be a problem. After going back and forth regarding the amount difference between the two vehicles, we could not come to an agreement so we left Tempe Honda. We were less than 5 minutes away when there was a call from our Sales Rep as often happens in these matters. We came to a verbal agreement for the out the door price of the difference of our trade and their vehicle over the phone, so we turned around and went back to Tempe Honda. Our Sales Rep began prepping our trade vehicle by removing the license plate and notified the finance department to prepare docs. I got on the phone with our auto insurance carrier and cancelled insurance on our trade vehicle and added the new vehicle onto our policy. At about that time the Finance Manager had us into his office to sign docs. The finance agreement was put in front of us and immediately I see a problem. The amount is more than $2,000 over what we had agreed to! I halted the process and the Finance Manager immediately got the Sales Manager Dan Fazio. Dan was aggressively disputing that our agreement was for the out the door price for the vehicle and refused to honor the agreement that we had made over the phone with our sales Rep. Clear to me, Dan was playing bait and switch with our agreement. We told him that we would not purchase their car at that price and we wanted our car prepared with the license plate returned. I got on the phone with my auto insurance company to re-add coverage to our trade vehicle. During this period I could hear Dan unprofessionally and loudly talking about my wife and myself for having not gone through with his dishonest agreement in an attempt to make us uncomfortable. The next morning was Monday 11-17 and I contacted Tempe Honda to speak with their General Manager Michelle Patrenko to let her know what had happened and left a message to call me back. Later that day, my wife and I were at Honda of Superstition Springs to get the same type of vehicle when Michelle returned my call. She was courteous and professional while I told her what had happened. She suggested that she needed to speak to our Sales Rep and it was his day off. She told me that if she confirmed that he and I had agreed to the out the door price that we had, she would honor that deal. I told her that was fine, but, time was of the essence as we were a dealer currently to purchase a car and to try our Rep on his day off. Today is 11-19 and Michelle never called me back. That was another missed opportunity from Tempe Honda to right their wrong and they failed to take it. That shows me that this problem stems from the top down. SHAME ON YOU TEMPE TOYOTA!!! We made the purchase at Honda of Superstition Springs and it went smooth as silk. To whoever reads this, there are a lot of other Honda dealers in the Phoenix market and if I were you I would strongly consider purchasing from one that does not employ dishonest strong-arm tactics like we experienced from Dan Fazio and Tempe Honda.
