The Colonies Dental Center Reviews

Dr. Eric R. Boyd

Does NOT have any clue about dentistry, our family is out over 5 grand due to Eric Boyd's gross incompetence. We are filing a complaint with the dental board. To top it off he made a bunch of sexist comments during the visit about the dentist we'd transferred from, an excellent female Dr who has probably forgotten more than he will ever know. Wouldn't recommend this ignorant dentist to my worst enemy, and will make sure to spread the word about him.

The Colonies Dental Center

In response to the poster explaining how they were out thousands, everyone I know of who has been there has had a similar experience at The Colonies Dental Center. Know why? He spends all the $$$$ he gets from overcharging patients to pay attorneys to harass Google+ and other review companies to remove patient complaints and to attempt to sue patients who file complaints against him (got laughed out of court apparently, and rightfully so. I pity the sad sack that had the misfortune of being hired to litigate for him). "Dr."(he is anything but this) Boyd is a crook and has no business being licensed as a dentist. Where there is smoke, there's fire. I 100% believe what other folks have said he did to them. In my own situation he tried to sell both my husband and myself on unnecessary procedures including claiming everything from we needed teeth removed to root canals to retainers. We were stunned and obviously didn't believe any of it, both of us have seen dozens of dentists over the years (both from military families) and neither of us were EVER told anything of the sort by any dentist, we only have a handful of fillings between the two of us, no serious dental issued whatsoever. When we refused to make all of the "follow up" appointments, we got a letter a month later claiming we had no showed and were going to be charged. Please!! As if either of us ever agreed to return--he was extremely rough, for one, leaving aside the bogus dental problems he claimed we had. To anyone else who has dealt with this moron please spread the word by mouth, FB, whatever, since sites like Yelp or Google will not allow the truth to be told and the dental board doesn't seem to care.

Ugh

Bad, Bad, BAD. Wish I had seen this site before making an appt . The dentist couldn't care less about patients and is only concerned with how money he can get out of them. My sister is friends with a former hygienist of his who lets everyone know how crappy this dentist is. He can't keep staff. either. I had 2 fillings come out within 6 mths and my husband ended up needing a root canal 3 months after having a crown done. Don't believe the fake reviews for this place! Like others have said, after talking about our experience here, I have not heard of ONE person that likes this office in real life.

Colonies Dental Center, Dr. Boyd

I truly do NOT understand how this whackjob has a license and am not surprised to read that he is also out getting arrested ,apparently.

Our family had been patients of Dr. Ryan who was an excellent dentist, until we moved a couple hours away. Our 19 year old son is now going to MU and recently had some dental problems--we had him go back to The Colonies since we assumed it was still a decent office despite having a different person working there.--Mistake #1. Right off the bat they were rude and unwelcoming (I spoke to them on the phone, and obviously my son was there in person and felt the same way). They came across as though they thought it was unheard of for a teenaged college student to be on their parents' insurance and have them paying for the bill (for instance, when my husband called to pay for the crown seating he was told that they couldn't even tell him the amount as our son was an adult and it would violate patient privacy laws. Uh, ok. This had all ready been discussed and my son had told them that we were going to call and pay. Because of this, the appointment ended up rescheduled (the dentist couldn't care less that he left a patient in pain). We ended up just putting the money on our son's card so that he could pay himself, since for some reason we didn't just have him go somewhere else--Mistake#2.

So that this won't be a novel, long story short the dental work was eventually done(though my son hated the dentist and he gets along with basically everyone he meets) and everything was ok for around a month until he was home on break--both teeth he had worked on by Dr. Boyd became abscessed and we spent a "lovely" Sunday evening in the ER getting antibiotics and making a plan to have RCT on both teeth. The crowns had NOT been properly done and there had been bacteria that caused the infections due to Boyd's dental work. This was costly, stressful, and terrible to go through (for my son the most, obviously) and he ended up having to return to college 3 days late. In the aftermath, when we called to ask for a refund for at least what we paid to The Colonies and explained that he had a hospital visit and had to get two root canals, then two new crowns, etc. the dentist LAUGHED and sarcastically said "if you go to the grocery store, do you ask for a refund after you eat the food?". He also started yelling after I told him I didn't appreciate his flippant tone and I'm pretty sure I heard "bitch" something or other as he hung up on me. He took absolutely zero responsibility for his negligence and horrific dental work that nearly cost our son his teeth, put him in pain, and prevented him from being able to return to college on time. He had the nerve to claim that my son hadn't brushed around the crowns and this caused an infection--SO RIDICULOUS. Even in his file it was noted that there was not plaque on my son's teeth, and he had only one prior filling that he received when he was 11 years old. so he is essentially claiming that within 4 weeks my son decided never to brush his teeth and this caused a raging infection.

I rarely bother to review anything on the internet, but I can tell you with complete peace of mind that you shouldn't even consider going to this hell hole. I would not let this guy in my home to clean my toilet, let alone to take care of the teeth of any of my family members again. Boyd must have put on quite an "act" when he met Dr. Ryan because I can't imagine he would have willingly sold to anyone of this character. My son also told me that a girl he goes to school with(also 18 or 19)with said she'd gone there once for a cleaning nd the dentist had made her feel uncomfortable and started sending her "friend requests" on facebook until she blocked him.

Please, please keep your family away from this place.

The Colonies Dental Center, Eric R. Boyd, DDS

This dentist was ARRESTED for evading the police and reckless driving on Christmas eve by the Lee's Summit PD and will likely have his license suspended after his trial in February! He also has gotten at least one DWI in the past.

I was unfortunately referred to this dental practice through a colleague after she and I had spoke about some dental issues I was having–she’d had a good experience, so I finally made an appointment with Dr. Boyd, despite my misgivings about going to someone who had several patient complaints about him. I realized this was a mistake nearly as soon as the initial appointment began; When he came in he was extremely rude and rattled off a slew of intrusive questions that he didn’t even wait for me to interrupting me.

At my last dental appointment, probably 4 or 5 months prior at the most (my husband and I had relocated here for his job) there were 2 molars that were “questionable” that my dentist had said would probably need to be addressed fairly soon. Like I expected, they’d started to give me some trouble. Dr. Boyd claimed I “waited so long” that both teeth would need crowns and one possibly a root canal. I said I found that hard to believe when the xrays were nearly identical to the ones I’d had a few months ago and that the teeth had been asymptomatic until a week ago (MILD off and on ache….this moron acted as though I had some sort of raging infection about to kill me.) Long story short….and there was all sorts of other nonsense, courtesy of him, I got up and went to the front and paid and let the secretary know that I would need my files transferred, while he glowered at me from around the corner--oh and when I transferred to the new practice, the office assistant there laughingly let me know that he had put some kind of notation about how *I* was the one who had been rude and showed up late "multiple times" (yeah right--I was 10 minutes early to the appointmenT--singular, that I had.) apparently he has retaliated against other patients who left as well, according to her.

As I expected, my new (sane) dentist filled the two cavities and I have had no issues. One of the assistants there knew of Dr. Boyd and had said she had heard many people say the same things about him. Keep in mind that IF I had needed more work on my teeth then I would have happily gotten it done, that was NEVER the issue. I am nearly 40 years old and I have taken excellent care of my teeth and will continue to do so. However, I will never allow someone to talk me into unnecessary procedures that permanently change the structures of my teeth for no reason like this person assumed he was going to be able to do . I do NOT recommend The Colonies Dental Center at all. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful.

The Colonies Dental Center

Eric R. Boyd, DDS of The Colonies Dental Center in Columbia, MO was arrested on December 24th, 2014 in Lee's Summit, Missouri for reckless driving through a residential neighborhood and refusing to be detained by police/evading the police. Combined, these serious crimes will likely result in a felony charge wherein he will have his driving privileges and his dental license suspended; He has a previous conviction for DUI from several years ago.

Not surprised you have had these issues...look at the kind of things Boyd writes about his patients. No respect for his profession at all...
